Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

The lights are all blinking red.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Finding joy where we can, and muddling through where we can’t.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

I really should read my own blog.

San Diego serenade

Commenter randandsyrup would like to organize a Balloon Juice meet-up in San Diego. Here’s his suggestion and contact info:

Proposed San Diego meetup:

Saturday 4/20 (just a coincidence) at the Duck Dive in Pacific Beach. Thinking sometime in the evening (6 or 7 start time?). We will have a reserved space. Food is pretty darn good there. Also, my wife is having an event during the evening that is sponsored by a well known vodka to help defray drink costs.

Can email me at my username at g mail dot com with questions, suggestions, etc. Looking forward to seeing y’all in meatspace.

Anything that doesn’t involve either Pizza Port or one of the world class San Diego breweries is a traveshamockery of a meet up.

@ranchandsyrup: I don’t believe WTL said that would be a bad thing.

What’s the chance of a certain basset owner showing up? That is his ‘hood.

I second going to a world class brewery. I’d suggest Alpine. Since it’s the best beer in the world, and all…. Albeit, a little out of the way. How about Pizza Port San Clemente, so it could be a San Diego/ Orange County meet up.

Early Tom Waits reference. Love it. Seen the morning too many times, but can’t make it to San Diego. Stuck in Philly.

Live in Ventura County and would like to come but that is a tough weekend – trial date Monday morning on an annoying case.

Probably not a good idea for anyone (okay … me) to drive back to San Diego after an BJ/Orange County meetup.* How about Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights?

*Why, yes, I’m fine with people driving back to OC after a BJ/San Diego meet-up.

And this is the reason I left San Diego for almost twenty years – nobody will commit to jack shit. Well, fuck it, I’m in. It’ll be early enough that the typical PB fratboy vomit spigots won’t be quite hammered enough to attempt to rape my car’s tailpipe.

Pizza Port is fine as well.

It’s a weekend. Use your best puppy-dog eyes, you can probly con a local into letting you crash on their couch… as long as promise to pay any required drycleaning bills afterwards.

I’m in, too. But I am also more inclined towards Pizza Port or a brewery. Whatever works, tho…

It makes perfect sense for me to leave Rochester in the snow for a meet up in San Diego.

I live in PB too; it would be a good excuse for me to get my old ass down to the boardwalk and out of my three block universe.

That weekend is the LA Times Festival of Books, which will make it tough for us to attend, but it’s hugely tempting. We’d be more tempted by one of the breweries or beer pubs (BLAH, O’Briens, Pizza Port, Stone World Bistro which we live close to…) but would do our best to go wherever it’s decided.

Just for the record, Mojo Nixon will be playing with Joey Harris of the Beat Farmers that night at the Tiki House just 7 short blocks from the proposed meeting site.

Count me in for the “undecided”, but it sure sounds like fun! will definitely keep it on the radar!
