You can say I’m a spoiled sport or perhaps I lack a sense of humor (forget the whole “professional comedian” thing. Bah!” but I simply hate what the day stands for. For the most part it’s “Hey let’s lie or manipulate folks who trust us and then when they fall for it laugh and laugh at them!” I personally have no issue with ending a friendship in a heartbeat over some ridiculous display that was supposed to be funny but in the end has me just sitting there staring hatefully at you.
Which is why today’s TWiB! Radio was NOT an April fool’s joke. We’ve played around with the idea of the “Southern Gentlemen’s Hour” a few times on the show for those who listen and today since our slinger of facts was on a writing retreat we decided to ride with the format and refuse to break character while portraying 2 problematic southern Christians who may/may not be incredibly racist. Listen as we accept phone calls from our bemused listeners and our morning anchor calls in to call shenanigans on us and is simply dismissed.
And on TWiB in the Morning, the morning crew talks a denial of child custody for grandparents, the college students with all the minimum wage jobs and how Jesus rolled in the Book of Elon.

Sounds like you are one of the idiots that bought a Balloon Juice subscription.

no offense, but it is painful to hear your southren gentleman impressions. I was expecting a little more Foghorn Leghorn and a little less Eddie Murphy old man.

THE WORD “MEDIA” IS A PLURAL NOUN. MIGHT WANT TO CHANGE YOUR SHOW’S OPENING BIT A LITTLE.
YOU WANT TO BE SEEN AS ARTICULATE, CORRECT?
TD
That sentiment does seem like a symptom of a lack of a sense of humor.
I almost always enjoy April First more than New Years, St. Paddy’s Day, and my birthday. Having one day to trick people in minor, silly ways (or “manipulate” them, to use your melodramatic words), is fun.
Edit: Also, being on guard from these minor, silly tricks from others is fun too. It’s a day that’s just a bit less banal than others. Don’t hate.

What about the kid president?

1) Fermilab nominates The Doctor to be the new director.
2) When I was in the Navy in VA, the radio station we listened to, WNOR, and their R&B sister station, swapped DJs for the morning show on April Fools, telling everyone this was the new company-directed morning lineup. It was hilarious flipping between the stations listening to the people calling in trying to figure out what was going on.

@Belafon (formerly anonevent):
Were you here for when they all got suspended for the “Mt. Trashmore is going to explode, please evacuate” prank?

@Just Some Fuckhead: That was a couple of years before my time there. I caught the last year or so of the Bull before he quit.
We still have three of their albums.

@Belafon (formerly anonevent): You mean the Felchcraft thing? That’s not really what felching is, you know. One of my buddies helped Tommy write that and we still give him grief over that.

@Just Some Fuckhead: We always bought their albums because the skits were funny and the money went toward their Christmas fund. Chuck the Intern was probably the best one of the group. And yes, I know that a number of them were from other radio stations, but they were still funny.

@cokane:
Nope. We’re bored with that whole “articulate” thing. We’re going for getting folks to leave all cap responses on websites.
AND APPARENTLY WE’VE WON.

Surprised by the number of responses here. Guess we either feel awkward about talking to black folks or are afraid of them (thoroughly demonstrated in ABL threads)?

For what it’s worth, I agree about April 1. I enjoy gag web “announcements” and the phony tools Lee Valley advertises are often genius, but most o the personal day-to-day April Fool’s jokes, made between friends and family that I’ve heard about are downright cruel.

@J.Ty: Meh, the folks on Balloon Juice use the site primarily at work where they can’t listen to an audiocast. This is a forum that has the written word as its main draw and won’t have a lot of overlap with the audience of an audio broadcast. Outside of wider exposure, which is always good, it’s like fishing for tuna in a freshwater pond.

@J.Ty: I don’t have time to listen to the show, think alot of others are in my boat.
Would be nice to see a transcript.
