Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

In my day, never was longer.

Bark louder, little dog.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

“Why isn’t this Snickers bar only a nickle?”

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

As long as McCarthy is Speaker, the House will never be in order.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

No Justins, No Peace

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Everyone Must Have a Gun, Unless You Don’t Want One

Alan Keyes is criminalizing the LGBTQ community again:

Then you’re not only derelict in your public duty, you’re abandoning your obligation as a human being. And frankly, … I think that kind of disregard for the God-endowed natural rights of human beings is the archetype of all crimes against humanity.

On today’s #TWiBRadio, we discussed the Georgia town that requires gun ownership, homosexuals swimming with sharks and other crimes against humanity, and there’s a dolphin serial killer on the loose.

And this morning on #amTWiB, #TheMorningCrew discussed how real men buy tampons, GZA dropping science, and the thigh gap.

Alan Keyes should officially change his name to Alan Keyes, LOL.

Sad that Keyes has a lesbian daughter and is such a bigot.

Does Alan Keyes even get any play nowadays? Been a while since I had even heard his name…probably because the crazy has infiltrated Congress and is no longer restricted to the fringes.

I don’t think “fact” means what that one gentleman in the video thinks it means. Homosexuals live half as long as heterosexuals?

I’ll never forget that time in 2004 when Alan Keyes inflicted himself on the innocent citizens of Illinois, with extremely well-covered daily diatribes against gays and lesbians (and all other sentient beings) saying that our very existence was violative of the God-given principles embodied in the Declaration of Independence, the Bible and all civilization. With a face that could literally scare little children and a countenance that would frighten elderly grandmothers, he would go on and on every single hour of every single day; not giving an inch towards sanity and normal human behavior. It was a tour de force…

It’s nice to know that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

    @Bruce S:

Wait, seriously? Either Kristol is a lot older than I thought or Keyes looks really bad for his age.

    @Robert:

If you confine your “statistics” to, say, 1980 to 1995, you could probably make that claim, but it’s kind of like trying to claim that Europeans only live to be 25 using statistics from the Black Death.

The biggest problem with “their Blacks”, as Ann Coulter refers to them, is that they don’t know when (or how) to shut the fuck up. More’s the pity.

Do you do any research on Mayor K. Johnson in Sac. and his wife Michelle R. Her children live in TN with her husband. They do not live with her as a mother. R. lives in Sac. Her children live in TN with their father. One daughter goes to public, one daughter is private. The private school does have an age limitation. I am supposing the youngest daughter is not old enough to go to a very private school. M. R. went to private schools as well. The private school is the one Reese Witherspoon went to. Michelle R. will not comment, (the Sac Bee.)

Back in the 90s when Alan Keyes was running for President, someone at the New Republic enunciated the Keyes Principle: next to Alan Keyes, EVERYONE looks presidential.

I guess one of the nice things about being Alan Keyes is that you can use long words to say “Homosexuality is worse than genocide”, and not have to worry about anyone thinking anyone less of you… Republicans probably think an “archetype” is Palinese for “something that you print blueprints with”.

Regarding the claim that homosexuals live half as long as heterosexuals:

    http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2010/winter/10-myths

This falsehood can be traced directly to the discredited research of Paul Cameron and his Family Research Institute, specifically a 1994 paper he co-wrote entitled, “The Lifespan of Homosexuals.” Using obituaries collected from gay newspapers, he and his two co-authors concluded that gay men died, on average, at 43, compared to an average life expectancy at the time of around 73 for all U.S. men. On the basis of the same obituaries, Cameron also claimed that gay men are 18 times more likely to die in car accidents than heterosexuals, 22 times more likely to die of heart attacks than whites, and 11 times more likely than blacks to die of the same cause. He also concluded that lesbians are 487 times more likely to die of murder, suicide, or accidents than straight women.

Remarkably, these claims have become staples of the anti-gay right and have frequently made their way into far more mainstream venues. For example, William Bennett, education secretary under President Reagan, used Cameron’s statistics in a 1997 interview he gave to ABC News’ “This Week.”

However, like virtually all of his “research,” Cameron’s methodology is egregiously flawed — most obviously because the sample he selected (the data from the obits) was not remotely statistically representative of the LGBT population as a whole. Even Nicholas Eberstadt, a demographer at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, has called Cameron’s methods “just ridiculous.”
