Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Republicans in disarray!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Zsa Zsa went to her forever home today, and I’m terrified Karen is going to think I am never going to leave her alone because I keep calling and asking how she is, but according to Karen she has already explored the space and decided the small bedroom they put her in was not good enough and moved into the master bedroom to take a little nap. Here’s a picture of her at play in her new household:

Anyone who would say you didn’t do the right thing is a dumb ass. I mean…how on Earth would it be better to keep an animal in a situation where it is obviously not happy? It’s not like you dumped her off at a shelter that would put her down in two days or on the side of the road or something. You found her a loving home that will better fit her preferences and where she’ll be loved and warm and snuggly. Nothing wrong about that at all.

Maybe what you have is a “Green Acres” problem and Zsa Zsa wanted a penthouse view rather than a doghouse view.

It also kind of reminds me of when we first got our middle cat, Annie. She had gone to a previous home that didn’t work out, so her fosterer was a little nervous. She called us the day after we picked Annie up and asked us how things were going.

We said, “Okay, I guess. She seems a little nervous — we keep turning around and she’s standing there looking at us.”

There was a pause, and the fosterer said, “You mean she’s out where you can see her?” Apparently the problem in the previous home was that Annie never actually emerged from behind the TV set and they had to call the fosterer to find her so they could send her back.

But it helped that we had Mr. Charm & Personality on site to set Annie at ease, so at least she was pretty sure we weren’t planning to kill and eat her immediately.

I’m glad things seem to be working out for Zsa Zsa, wherever she settled.

We’re recently adopted a 12-ish yr old rescue kitty who was seriously traumatized by her experience on the streets. It’s a slog, quite honestly, but we are making slow progress. She’s finally decided that as the main source of food, I can be trusted enough to wait for me outside one of the hides holes we’ve provided her in “her” bedroom. But our other cat now refuses to come anywhere near that space, including into the bedroom I usually sleep in, where she used to spend most nights curled up with me.

Sigh. I’m in this for the long haul, but it’s a bit intimidating when I see how long the run may be.

I think it’s good. I got my Henley because my best friend, who’d gotten him from foster care, had given it a really good try and her original cat was never going to accept him, and the living situation was changing such that the cats couldn’t be kept apart as effectively.

And you know, it was so the right call, and now I have a cat that spends huge chunks of the day just staring at me and purring, and basically follows me around the apartment.

    @danielx:

I am so seriously tempted to try and create a David Brooks column generator. It probably wouldn’t be that hard either.

I must’ve missed the post where Zsa Zsa wasn’t enjoy the Cole Cornucopia of Pets. When I read the first lines, I thought the poor kitty had passed…

I’m sure she’s happy because some cats just need to be only-cats (or at least the first in the house rather than the last) but that picture looks a lot more like the standard “whafuck?” look I get in 90% of the cat pictures I’ve ever taken. (Or at least 90% of the ones that don’t have flash-induced Devil Eyes or Laser Eyes.)

UP YOURS, JOHN! (umm, because you didn’t offer her to me…)

Yes, she looks happy at her new home, and I hope she has a long spoiled life.
