RNC Chair Reince Preibus on Red State:
“The President, the Senate Majority Leader, the House Democratic Leader, and the Chair of the Democratic National Committee (in whose home state this hearing occurred) made funding Planned Parenthood an issue in the 2012 campaign,” Priebus wrote. “They should now all be held to account for that outspoken support. If the media won’t, then voters must ask the pressing questions: Do these Democrats also believe a newborn has no rights? Do they also endorse infanticide?”
Almost like that time an anonymous commenter on Daily Kos compared Bush to Hitler. Almost.
Cassidy
Oh reince, you huckster you. You see, it’s us that wants the newborn to have rights and education and healthcare and a future. You only give a fuck when it’s a mass of squirted cells.
Trollhattan
Every time that twit opens his yap I reflect on how much I miss Michael Steele. Preibus makes LaPierre seem like a scintillating personality, if living on the same sub-sub-subhuman level, along with Cheney.
Where do they
findcreate these guys? That’s one bunker-lab we should bomb, stat.Teresa
I still believe that the gas that passes out of my dog’s ass is smarter than the majority of today’s republicans combined. Preibus continues to reinforce that belief.
JGabriel
Held to account?
We were. It’s called an election. And we won. Priebus’s team lost.
He’s like the Black Knight, bouncing around limbless, shouting, “Come back here and take what’s coming to you! I’ll bite your legs off!”
Jackass.
BGinCHI
What an asshole.
Comrade Jake
I’m just mildly astonished the GOP hasn’t thought to make Lynne Cheney RNC chair yet. What could possibly go wrong?
WereBear
Rave on, Reince Preibus. Rave on.

All I can think of is: “Come at me bro”
Ash Can
Hey Rience! How’s that GOP rebranding/outreach going for you?
Chris
I love how their response when we support something is to ask whether we support something else that we clearly don’t, and then asking that we be held to account for supporting the thing we don’t support.
Talk about gay marriage, they start asking about bestiality and child rape. Talk about abortion, they start asking about infanticide.
And yes, being lectured on child rape by the apologists of the priests who were found guilty of it and the church elders who covered it up, and being lectured about dead children by people who’ve never met a war or an abolition of a welfare program they didn’t like, does make it seem like there’s a lot of projection to go along with the obvious diversion.
Litlebritdifrnt
Speaking of RWNJs, and following on from Zander’s thread down stairs, I suggested to my boss today that we open a pool as to which religion my fair state will choose as it’s state religion. Someone suggested Baptist but then I asked, “ah but which one?” that got them all thinking.
Which reminded me of this
Derelict
I think this might be some kind of world-record leap of logic here. It’s a wonder he didn’t fatally injure himself in the attempt.

Shine on you crazy cinder.

A new pressing question besides denouncing Stalin and the broccoli mandate!
Mnemosyne
@Chris:
It always fascinates me that conservatives are apparently unable to distinguish between “outside” and “inside” and can’t figure out what the difference is between an infant that’s outside of the uterus and a zygote that’s inside the uterus.
Maybe they all need to watch this “Sesame Street” clip until they understand that “outside” and “inside” are two different places.
gbear
It’s as if they think that pre-natal care and family planning are the devil’s tools, while the ability to purchase a gun without a background check is a sacred right.
gelfling545
@Derelict: Yes. Pity, that.
Luluforever
This is in response to this video. Should have known. Last week, my rightwing relatives were in an uproar over this video, posting on Facebook about what a crime it is that Planned Parenthood kills live babies and shouldn’t they be shut down or something. They really believed this.
jl
Since the vast majority of the voting public supports planned parenthood, I guess this is a dilemma for the Dems and good news for Republicans.
kerFuFFler
Well, at least that should be a question democrats should be delighted to answer nice and loud considering that democrats are the ones that support the programs that support a newborns access to food, shelter and medical care!
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
The more the Republicans talk like this the better it is for Democrats, at least politically.
I think before Obama’s second term is complete there will be a homegrown terrorist attack like OKC or a siege like Waco. But worse. The Republicans are not just drifting further right, they’ve pointed the car away from the mainstream and are flooring it.
MattR
@jl: You gotta love that in Republican world the fact that Republicans introduced legislation trying to defund Planned Parenthood and Democrats defended the organization and tried to maintain their funding means “The President, the Senate Majority Leader, the House Democratic Leader, and the Chair of the Democratic National Committee (in whose home state this hearing occurred) made funding Planned Parenthood an issue in the 2012 campaign”
geg6
Well, guess it’s time to shove a little cash Planned Parenthood’s way again.

Yesbut TEH BEBEHS!! Y do u libz hate teh Zygote-Americans??

Prince Rhebus sounds a bit confused. I don’t think it’s the Democrats who want to cut WIC.
The Moar You Know
The donations must have slowed down a lot. They only play this song when they need money.
@geg6: Yeah. Fucking Republicans are costing me a fortune.
jl
” Do these Democrats also believe a newborn has no rights? ”
Not sure how the GOP base would answer that.
Give credit to ol’ Reince for pushing the envelope in, what would guess is, the new GOP outreach program.
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
@Trollhattan:
Reince Priebus looks and talks like the actor from Grosse Pointe Blank (Nathaniel) who calls into the radio show and tells Mini Driver (Debbie) that he doesn’t hear enough remorse in John Cusack’s (Marty) apology.
ThatLeftTurnInABQ
@jl:
The GOPers believe in Planned Childhood, not Planned Parenthood. That’s the system whereby little precious snowflakes carefully pick and choose their parents, for example wealthy white Christians who own large and very valuable estates and have extensive family connections (which will come in handy later). Those zygotes who planned well do well in life, and those who didn’t plan well get what they deserve as a righteous comeuppance for their pre-natal sloth.
The Moar You Know
@J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford: I would normally say “I really hope not” but hope in the face of certainty is stupid. I think the odds of this are 100%, not if but when, and the only hope I can limit myself to is that not too many people will die.
jrg
Depends. Do they have a picture ID?
Turgidson
@kerFuFFler:
Yeah, this is interesting. It’s the GOP who believe that life begins at conception and ends at birth, as Barney Frank said so eloquently.
I’m sure the real zealot morans in the GOP base believe that evil libruls would love to murder a newborn child, just as we all pop champagne every time there is an abortion, but even the biggest morans haven’t been saying this kind of batshittery out loud in public settings very much. The party chair, in charge of rebranding no less, just did. Egads.
I long ago gave up hoping that there was a “they can’t go lower than this” bottom for their cruel foolishness and insanity, but they still surprise me sometimes.

The Dangerman
Only for children of the 1%; if the uber-rich died without having heirs (intestate?), wouldn’t the money go to the State? That sounds like win/win, especially if we do it retroactively far enough back that we might rid ourselves of all the Hilton kids.
jl
@The Dangerman: But if you could contract that out to a private corporation to increase efficiency, the issue becomes more complicated, perhaps even bipartisan!
The Snarxist Formerly Known as Kryptik
What’s pissing me off more is that somehow these fuckers are actually winning the goddamn fight on this, at least legislatively.
Chris
@Turgidson:
The original movement conservative, William F. Buckley, started the National Review so that he could gush about fascism and segregation.
(And this was the “moderate,” “reasonable,” presentable movement conservative that you could actually take out in public, to contrast with howler monkeys like Ayn Rand, Joe McCarthy and the John Birchers).
That really is all you need to know about conservatism.
Joey Maloney
Reince is a perfect exemplar for why we must keep abortion safe and legal up to the 143rd trimester.
MattF
Does the RNC, maybe, remember that little business about the Susan G Konen foundation– and what happened when SGK ‘punished’ Planned Parenthood? Do they remember how actual women responded when the issue came up unambiguously? Hey, Preibus– that cliff you’re jumping off of– Bon Voyage.
cleek
do newborns have the right to bear arms?
Petorado
Infanticide? You mean like killing young children with guns? What’s your position on that again, Reince?
NonyNony
Some Democrat in Congress needs to get to work on a “Newborn Infant’s Bill of Rights” stat. Guarantees for pre-natal care for poor mothers, guarantees for food, shelter and clothing assistance, guarantees for medical coverage for all newborns.
Because damn – that is some serious messed up crap that Prebius is spewing right there.
gene108
Newborn babes ain’t fetuses, cause they ain’t in mommies womb no more.
Democrats care a lot more about newborns than Republicans. If Republicans want to bring the whole “pro-life” debate to around to newborns, I say bring it on, ’cause the Democrats got a lot more pro-life going on for the newborns than Republicans.
gene108
@cleek:
Only if they rip them off the bear all by themselves :-)
Supernumerary Charioteer
You can smell the pandering from here.
What Priebus was thinking as he wrote this: “Welp, any time I mention gay marriage you goobers put out several dozen 10,000-word screeds filled with Reagan- or Aquinas-era pop sociology, and any time I mention immigration you do the same thing, just with racist horseshit that’s bad enough that I can’t sell it to the moderates, so I’m going to pound my fists on the abortion table until you forget that you’re going to hate the RNC’s 2014 slate of candidates.”
Schlemizel
I am a firm believer that life really does begin at 40. Parents should have the right to abort anytime before that!
This is the position I am staking out as it might balance the insane RNC position so that we can compromise some place near sanity. Moving closer to the goopers position has not helped, it has hurt so lets go the other direction!
Southern Beale
WTF?? Infanticide????
That is one giant fucking leap there, Mr. RNC PR BS
Southern Beale
FUN FACT:
If you remove the vowels from Reince Priebus you get RNC PR BS.

@cleek:
I don’t know, but in summer, newborns have bare arms.
NonyNony
@Southern Beale:
I wish I had noticed that before. I’ve been working on a theory for a while that Obvious Anagram Reince Priebus (as Charlie Pierce named him) was doing some kind of meta-level performance art piece.
Clearly looking at anagrams is the wrong way to go here – the “only consonants” technique is the way to go.
(Only the vowels gets us “e-i e-i e-u”. If I can just figure out why it isn’t “e-i e-i o” I think all of the secrets of the GOP will be revealed…)

Blather, Reince. Repeat.

Southern Beale:
You know, that kind of blatant symbolism convinces me that if there is a God, he/she is probably just a novelist in another
dementiadimension..
JGabriel
@NonyNony:
That would be because Novelist God wants the vowels to remind us of barnyard animals, but that the GOP is grosser. Thus, instead of ““e-i e-i o”, we get ““e-i e-i eww”.

Oddly, I don’t think The President, the Senate Majority Leader, the House Democratic Leader, and the Chair of the Democratic National Committee or the RNC Chairman will actually have to think about whether to have an abortion any time soon. So they are exactly the people who will be hurt, or “Held Accountable” for cutting off funding.
different-church-lady
NEWS FLASH: Chairman of the RNC confused about the definitions of “infant”,”abortion”, and “birth”.
I may be liberal, but I am definitely against aborting infants after birth.
dollared
So, I see a lot of people here calling Priebus an “idiot.”
Reince is a former partner in the Milwaukee/Madison law firm Michael, Best and Friedrich. They are a highly regarded midsize law firm that established themselves as Scott Walker’s go-to firm. The advanced wingnut experiment formerly known as Wisconsin was hatched there, and one has to give them a lot of credit for their imagination in criminalizing dissent, outlawing unions, and hiding the entire state redistricting process behind the shield of attorney-client privilege.
Priebus is not an idiot. He is a hard core Nixonian, and evil as a Koch brother.
quannlace
Just setting my watch for the next ‘legitimate rape’ comment or a variation on ‘wetbacks.’ Any minute now.
Higgs Boson's Mate
Reince avoids mentioning the prenatal care provided by Planned Parenthood. You know; the care that Reince’s busted-ass Red States don’t want to provide to the precious unborn.
Sloegin
Depends. Are we out of Matzo?
Turgidson
@dollared:
True, but this doesn’t preclude the possibility that he’s an idiot when it comes to being the national party chairman.
Jay
Watching this brief interview with a now mild-mannered Mike Rice, the Rutgers Men’s Basketball coach who was just fired for verbally and physically abusing his players, I get the Priebus vibe from him.
I have a feeling we’ll soon see a tape (probably from election night) of Priebus hurling basketballs at junior staffers while calling them “f-ggots.”
Also, what’s the plural of “Priebus?” Priebuses? Priebi?
Jay
Here’s the interview I forgot to put in comment #64. Watch it and tell me Rice isn’t Priebus. Go on.
JoyfulA
@NonyNony: And a Newborn Infant’s Bill of Rights is a good idea anyhow. I remember that Vermont under Gov. Howard Dean instituted a home visit by a nurse for each infant’s first week at home to answer family questions, try to solve their problems, enroll them in WIC if appropriate, etc. That would be a good start.

I wonder what kind of newborn he would have if Rinsed PooButt were to go fuck himself?

@David Koch: Didn’t we say the same thing about Michael Steele?
Patricia Kayden
Yes Reince, President Obama who is the father of two beautiful girls is all about infanticide. Ditto Planned Parenthood, which is sometimes the only medical provider for poverty stricken American women.
Nice outreach to women voters you got going there.
Heliopause
I agree with Preibus, support for Planned Parenthood should be an issue in most campaigns. Not ever going to run for public office myself, but I can guarantee my good friend Reince that if I did I would definitely hold myself to account for my support of PP.
Ruckus
@dollared:
Are you using the literal meaning of the word idiot?
Because to me anyone who holds the views that rinse pubes advocates is a fucking idiot. So for me it’s lying sack of shit or idiot lying sack of shit.
debbie
@Patricia Kayden:
Not to mention the clown show of Republicans still justifying the massive killing of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Once they’ve left the womb, they’re fair game.
NonyNony
@JoyfulA:
Oh absolutely. I never advocate doing things just to piss off conservatives. But if you can advance a policy that helps people who need it AND piss off conservatives then I say go for it.
(And advancing policies that help people in need always pisses off conservatives anyway, so if your only goal in life is to piss off conservatives you can maximize your effectiveness by pushing these kinds of policies. Maybe that’s why conservatives get so confused and think that “pissing off liberals” is the same as “advancing a conservative agenda” – it would make sense if the root of that whole attitude was a stupid logical fallacy…)
