Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

We still have time to mess this up!

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

We’re not going back!

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Balloon-Juice meet-up in San Diego and commenter ranchandsyrup asked me to post the details. I need tv when I’ve got Tbogg?

Meetup is scheduled for Saturday at the Duck Dive in Pacific Beach. We have an area set aside and there will be some liquor sampling (read: SOME “free” booze) from 7-9. The Duck Dive people are excited to have us and the food is pretty darn good. We’ll put up some Balloon Juice related stuff so you’ll know where we are.

Duck Dive info:

The Duck Dive
4650 Mission Blvd
San Diego, CA. 92109
www.theduckdive.com

Looking forward to it!

Tbogg is planning on being there.

    Well, I’m stuck in Texas. I’d really like to meet the Boggfather, since I’ve been reading his posts since 1999 or so, when he was posting on the CNN forums … and then we moved to Table Talk, and then he became some sort of big shot blogger.

    I’m so there.

    Many years ago I lived just a half-dozen or so blocks north of the Duck Dive address. It’s near (or maybe on?) the site of the old Tug’s Tavern; what a great dive bar THAT was. On Sunday mornings they’d serve impossibly cheap coffee, bacon, eggs, & toast, and the long, long, out-the-door-and-halfway-to-the-ocean line of hung-over and still-drunk beach rats was something to see. Especially if you were in the middle of it.

    Most cyclists don’t strengthen their upper bodies. They focus on their core. If you don’t know what that means you are in for some serious pain but also some serious improvement. If you have a bad back, for example, you need to work on the core. I would suggest yoga and light weights.

    Or do as I do and ride 2 or 3 hundred miles a week.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    April 1 brought in that much money?

    Yeah, unfortunately it did. Before I realized it was a joke, I PayPal’ed Cole the whole $6 million he asked for, and now he won’t give it back.

    @PsiFighter37:

    Is it bad of me to pimp the burgeoning meetup I’d like to plan a few weeks from now in Hellay?

    Go for it; just don’t use that name for our fair metropolis! We’re talking about having a meetup while PsiFighter37 is in town, provisionally located at Golden Road Brewing.

    @ranchandsyrup: Well, then. We’re looking at doing something on Friday, May 10th (but can be Saturday if more people would prefer). I’ve gotten a suggestion for Golden Road Brewery, which looks like a delicious place to eat and drink an evening meal.

    If interested, please ping me at [email protected]. Now that it seems a front-pager is down for posting these things, I can spam DougJ in a couple weeks about this and demand some attention.

    So this seller is representing himself — he’s a failed probate attorney (such a bad reputation around town) who really wanted to be a trial lawyer. He has a hugely inflated perception of his own competence and also of his property’s value. What could go wrong?

    @PsiFighter37:

    Golden Road is also good because it’s easy to get to from the 134 Freeway. Parking is kind of a bear, but that’s Los Angeles. Local hipsters can ride their bikes since there’s plenty of bike parking.

    I may be too chicken to go, but we’ll see. I’m not even close to my internet persona IRL, so I would probably be sitting in the corner all night and only reveal myself afterwards.
