Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The willow is too close to the house.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Fight them, without becoming them!

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Oh, Pat Robertson — always respectful of our Muslim brothers and sisters.

On today’s #TWiBRadio, we discussed the tragedy in Boston and the subsequent the media coverage circus, and the cause of the economic disaster of 2008. Hint: it’s cocaine.

And this morning on #amTWiB, #TheMorningCrew we furrowed our brows at Disney’s sexist superhero shirts, talked about the free tax software made by the IRS that lobbyist don’t want you to have, and we paid our respects to Sal Castro Chicano educator and activist, passed at age 79.

Just talked to a friend who is home sick. She was bitching up a storm about how every stupid show on TV, even daytime talk shows, seemed to be talking about the bombings. Bringing on “experts” to explain what the bomber did wrong and how it could be done better. Great training video for next time. Our media sucks.

I don’t know how you can criticize Robertson when liberals want this so, so badly to be their little Reichstag Fire for gun grabbing and oppression of their political opponents.

I’m amazed that Pat Robertson can jump to a conclusion so confidently, when neither Boston PD nor the FBI has so much as identified a suspect let alone a motive. He must be some kind of genius. Let him lead the investigation!

And how silly the liberal is, especially the partisan Democrat variety, to put down pat Robertson for his enabling of the Forever War which props up the whole damned System, but how they praise and praise Obama for doing more to kill foreigners as part of the War than Bush ever dreamed of doing.

Bush never ever claimed to be able to kill any American citizen, anywhere, anytime with a drone by simply labeling him an “enemy combatant”. Obama has. Bush never bombed Libya. Obama has. Bush did not slap inhumane and terrible sanctions on Iran, Obama has. Obama is just as, if not more, statist than Bush. But how you swoon and swoon over his words! Greenwald has your number.

And you morons still can’t see it. It’s all the same ball of wax.

You know, it’s not so much that the tshirts in and of themselves are sexist, it’s the fact that the only option for women is the message “I Need A Hero” and that there is no “Be A Hero” marketed for young girls. (Yeah, I know they could wear Boys’ shirts, but the lack of an option tells you something. He’ll, they could even have a Disney Princess version with Mulan or Pocahontas kicking ass.) I kind of think it would be nice to have a “Be A Hero” for men, too. It’s a positive message taken down by crappy marketing.

Oh, and it sucks that on any version of the shirt there isn’t a representation of the one female Avenger. Of course, she’s always shown as having massive amounts of cleavage, so I’m sure there would be criticism there, too.

    @The prophet Nostradumbass:

I’m glad you asked. In addition to Precious Metals, I’m investing in heirloom seeds and of course arms. A canning device (you must can your *own* food, Big-Agra stuffs industrially canned food with HFCS and MSG)is also a good investment. Canning your own food will go a long way soon once the world financial market finally collapses.

Small-scale livestock (poultry and pigs, NOT cattle) are good too but too many county and city zoning boards put all kinds of onerous regulations in place to keep us dependent on Big Agra.

A note on the precious metals: some idiots will try to get you to buy gold stocks or paper gold, but just remember on REAL PHYSICAL gold and other Precious Metals are real. Otherwise it’s just a piece of paper like FRNs.

@The Friendly Libertarian: How will you continue canning your food when you need to replace all your seals and gaskets. Home canning is a phenomenon of the industrial age. You need to learn to go back to basics by surviving on beans and whatever can be overwintered in a root cellar, keeping in mind that by this time of year everything is likely to have turned into a foul-smelling slime.

What makes you think precious metals will be worth anything?

Gold has value primarily because it’s shiny. People will probably have more important things to worry about when the world market collapses Any Day Now, as you guys have been predicting for the last few centuries.

C’mon, guys. It’s mean, heaping mockery on the head of someone who is so clearly already utterly miserable… convinced that everything around him is going to come crashing down at any minute. Sure, he enjoys feeling superior to all of us ‘rubes’ who don’t understand that everything around us is a vast conspiracy that is at the same time diabolically clever and ludicrously half-witted. But in the end, it must suck horribly to be so terrified, all the time.
