What’s that you say? Those 2 people couldn’t possibly be in the same sentence? Well then you must not understand how the radical right wing mind works…
This is real life: Limbaugh compared media coverage of Boston Marathon Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to the media coverage of the murdered unarmed 17 year old Trayvon Martin–since they’re described as kids and younger pictures were posted. Obviously this is some sort of huge attempt to show the innocents of these 2 criminals!
Except for that pesky being stalked & killed for no reason thing that happened to one of them.
On today’s #TWiBRadio I drop this little tidbit on the rest of the team with out warning–they weren’t ready. Also, we remember the ‘Four Little Girls’ of Birmingham 50 years later, Dr. Norma J. Goodwin of HealthPowerforMinorities.com discusses Minority Health Awareness Month, and more. Listen here:

Sorry. For a second there I thought you said “Tavon Austin” and I was wondering if Rusty had slagged another black football player.
Because I am in full fucking dead on NFL Draft mode. Bitchez.
The Texans better either take Tavon or Cordarrelle Patterson from Tennessee.

@Corner Stone: Barkevious Mingo!

Regarding the actual point of the piece — does Rush, or anyone in the Rush vein (hurgh), really have the sense that there’s a groundswell of opinion among Teh Librul Mediots that Tsarnaev is or should be considered harmless and innocent?

@FlipYrWhig: You think just Clint is arguing with imaginary entities in chairs? Lie-bruls believe what is required for the brave truth-professors to rant against. Welcome to recreational abortion land.
Suffern ACE
@FlipYrWhig: Oddly, I have been too busy with first world problems to follow the evolving situation much since Monday except snippets that have been focused here. But yes, there is a sense that the media latched onto the younger brother as the passive and more assimilated follower who was just following bad older brother. Part of that is due to the statements made by friends and family. Also partly due to the fact that in the initial video, Jahar was literally following Tamerlan. When you present someone as being that passive, well yeah, you’re kind of making a case that they guy isn’t as guilty as his brother.
Anyway, Rush is full of it anyway. It is very difficult to find older photos of Jahar because he is 19 and looks very young. He is in fact young. Unless of course, you are 11. When I was 11, I thought 19 was old.
Belafon (formerly anonevent)
@Suffern ACE: Even though I’m very sympathetic to the idea that Jahar was being led by his brother, this would only apply to me in the sentencing phase. Something like “Life with the ability to become a prison nurse.”
ETA: From Salon (via DK): It seems that the older brother was an Alex Jones’ Infowars fan.

Rush is, of course, an idiot. You could argue that the media had reason to portray Trayvon Martin as younger and more innocent than he really was. I don’t agree that that’s what happened, but at least the argument makes some sense – there was a groundswell of support for Martin (at least among liberals), and the (liberal, of course) media had some incentive to play to that surge of popular opinion. It’s BS, but coherent BS. But what possible incentive does Rush think the media has to portray Tsarnaev that way? Is there some “Free Dzhokhar” movement that I’m unaware of? Maybe he explains himself later in the clip, but I could only make it through about 2 minutes. He also complains mightily about media references to Dzhokhar as a “kid”. Because criminal behavior somehow makes one more adult than other teenagers, I guess. Next thing you know, the media will probably be demanding that we give this “kid” a “trial”, rather than summarily executing him on national TV.
Shorter: Christ, what an asshole.

@Belafon (formerly anonevent): I’m disappointed with Alex Jones. You’d think he could at least manage to tie in the Elvis impersonator with all this. What does The King have to do to get respect these days?

You guys also added Dave von Ebers, author of “The Corner Tavern”, to your list of bloggers, I think.

Why does Rush think that making bombs is beyond “real” American college kids? Kind of insulting. I know we made plenty when I was young and crazy. Cannon made from steam pipe, pipe bombs. Had demolition derby where the winning car got a cylinder filled with black powder and touched off. Of course this was in olden times, so we had no electronics, but I’m sure that if the tech was current we’d have done that as well. The thrills of rural life.
FlipYrWhig
@Suffern ACE: Even so, I don’t think anyone can say with any justification that The Media and/or The Liberals have been rallying to his defense or working to make people feel sympathy for him.
beltane
@FlipYrWhig: According to the dictates of the conservative mind, the fact that liberals are capable of feeling sympathy for anyone means they automatically feel sympathy for everyone. For example, they always tend to equate liberal disgust over civilian deaths in Iraq with some imaginary liberal love affair with Saddam Hussein.
TooManyJens
@FlipYrWhig: It’s all part of the idea that liberals (and hence the Liberal Media) just aren’t brave enough to face up to the reality that we are in a mighty clash of civilizations and the Muslims want to kill us all and institute the global caliphate if we don’t use the word “terrorism” enough times and bomb the fuck out of whatever country they want to bomb the fuck out of this week. So because we can’t face that, we supposedly think Tsarnaev is just a nice innocent kid.
Limbaugh and Beck and their ilk live in a world where being constantly terrified makes them the serious and courageous ones.

Except for that whole pesky fact of there not having been a trial yet, during which all the evidence has been presented and evaluated by a jury thing…

Racist.

listen here, you racist fat fuck.
The WHITE BOY is a DOMESTIC TERRORIST.
Trayvon Martin was a teenager, minding his own damn business…who was

MURDERED
for the crime of WALKING WHILE BLACK.

Well neither boy was a rilla ‘murican, so there’s that.

@Corner Stone: I’m just obsessed with the name.

19 year olds look like little kids to me now and I’m not even 30.
That “younger” pic of the DT still looks like a little kids.
How is it that Rush’s eyes are that much better at spotting minute age differences in teenagers?
Patrick
@Ted & Hellen:
Then why did Rush even bring up Treyvon Martin? According to you, there hasn’t even been a trial yet…
BTW – I thought you folks on the far right no longer believed in trials. According to you folks, all muslims and blacks criminals are enemy combatants anyway.
