A couple of people sound interested, so let’s talk about where and when to meet. My first choice is Beer Authority on 40th, which isn’t exactly upper west side but has the kind of beer list that I can endorse. On the other hand Dublin House on 79th is a good location I’m not sure about the beers or food there. How do people feel about Beer Authority at 8:30?

I can’t make it but don’t let that stop anyone else. Go, have a good time.

I mean it. Go. It will be fun!

Of course I had to schedule a work call at 7 pm tonight. If the call is quick and painless I will try and swing by afterwards. Location is defintiely convenient for driving in through the Lincoln Tunnel, but not sure what parking will be like that close to Port Authority. May have to train instead. Would be nice for this rain to let up before this evening.

Don’t be all like that. A little rain never hurt anyone.

Dublin House will at least be pretty empty in the back room. I don’t think they have food, but they have no problem with ordering/bringing in pizza

@Just Some Fuckhead: My problem is that the first beer would cost approximately $400.
Maybe someday one of the heads of state will have a reason to come to Dallas, or more specifically the Lake Ray Hubbard area. There’s a place called the Flying Saucer that serves a lot of different beers.

There’ll never be one in Vermont, no critical mass of peeps.

@muddy:
Plus no one wants to hang out with you miserable shits.

Talk about your critical mass! You fuckhead.

If you will still be there at 9:30 I think I am game – I need to swing by Penn Station anyways, so this is close.
What’s the identifying cue?

Balloon Juice – – I check in weekly. I just scrolled down the page – there’s NUTHIN’ about Syria and how we’re getting dragged into another bullshit mess on another bullshit chemical weapons propaganda campaign. Have fun people. I’ll return when the bombs start falling. In the meantime, outta here.

@PsiFighter37: If the place was dog friendly, I would bring my Lily look-alike

My regrets: I would have enjoyed making your corporeal acquaintance, but insufficient time to rearrange schedules.
Unfamiliar with the Beer Authority (that name alone would keep me away). The venerable Dublin House is among an endangered breed of old-time NYC bars: a proper pour, respect for its patrons, an ambiance that encourages conversation. For potables, it offers Guinness and Harp for the sissies; that and shot of Jameson’s should be good enough for anyone. As woodyNYC noted above (#5), however, its food menu consists of deliveries from nearby eateries.
Previous NYC meet-ups have been very enjoyable, in no small part for revealing the number of local devotees of this blog. Good luck with your interview!

Too far downtown for me on a weeknight, but I will think fondly of you all. Dublin House is a good dive bar (and I mean that in the highest possible way); beer selection is basic, but fine for what it is. But yeah, no food. You will probably do better at Beer Authority.

Have a good time folks. I can’t make it tonight. I’m sorry to miss Tim F. (The beer list looks good, but the food looks expensive.)

I can be there 8:30 pm, but have no preference as to west side bars.
(Actually, I have no preference re bars in general to the point where my Seattle-surburan-living brother has complained that my NYC village neighborhood is wasted on me, since I so rarely hang out in bars despite living within walking distance: “think of all the people in America who have to drive home from a bar,” he tells me, “and here you can walk home and you never do.”)
So unless everyone tells me otherwise, see you at the Beer Authority at 8:30! Unless you decide on the Dublin House. I’ll be coming by subway anyhow, and staying on the red line for a few more stops is not a problem.

Can you guys please schedule a weekend meetup so us Long Islanders can come?
