Watching Manhunt on HBO, a documentary of all the women who spent decades working on finding and killing bin Laden. None of them looked like Jessica Chastain. Every single fucking one of them was a better actor.

Also too, I went to the bar to get a chicken sandwich to go and some young co-ed dropped a beer on my foot, and I was with it enough to blurt out “It’s ok, I remember my first beer” and make all her friends laugh.

Then I felt bad.

Switching to Donnie Brascoe on Starz because I need to have my wits with me when I watch this documentary.

Also too, you people suck. Feeling vengeful and dismissive today. If I were not so lazy I’d pick a SCOTUS argument with EEMOM and Burns.

    Mrs. Pantload and I just re-watched Donnie Brascoe, recently. Depp & Pacino – you don’t see that every day. Kinda like DiCaprio & Nicholson. Catch it while you can.

    Zero Dark Thirty lost me within 20 minutes. I understand what (I believe) Bigelow & Co. were trying to do in those early scenes — a sort of study of the quotidian nature of bad acts/scenarios. It just seemed to have been pulled off much more interestingly in The Hurt Locker.

    @Omnes Omnibus: You haven’t seen the way I drive. :) I expect to get quite a few more years from my 2001 Elantra. The biggest problem is probably gonna be the exterior. I am pretty sure I got a bad paint job because it is wearing/fading in ways I haven’t seen from a car made after 1975. I am worried it is gonna rust through at some point in a few years and I am not really willing to spend that much money on that kind of maintenance. But really, I cannot complain. If I have to buy a new car next week, I have the means to do so (even if it would hurt). That is much better off that too large a portion of our country.

    Studly Pantload, the emotionally unavailable unicorn

    May 9, 2013 at 1:11 am

    @Wag: I remember my last spring in Denver (native who moved from there 20-ish years ago). 80 degrees in May followed by snow a couple days after that.

    My last summer in Denver: Lived on the top floor (where the heat rises to) of a low-rise walk up when three straight days of 100+ degrees hit the region — and me with the air conditioner broken, and getting a repair person out was dicey at best.

    My last winter in Denver, however, featured a cold wave with lows in the minus 20s — and of course, the heat went on the fritz. Woke up one morning (all bundled up, of course), turned on the hall light, only to have it explode when the filament heated the frozen bulb too quickly.

    I’ll never leave the Pacific NW. I can take some rain.

    “Then I felt bad hit on one of her hot friends.”

    Fixed that for you. You’re not an old man yet, Cole. Try to maintain some dignity.

    Fat middle-aged men hitting on hot coeds half their age is not dignified. Trust me on this. I know what I am talking about.

    Um, co-ed? You use that term just to highlight your age right?

    Sorry, Cole, but women in higher education are here to stay, and have been for quite some time. The person who dropped a beer on your foot, clumsy and mockworthy or not, is a student, just like her male counterparts. Or do you call them co-eds too?

    @Ash Can:
    I had to Google co-ed to figure out what the hell it meant. Why would anyone use that term now? Seems like a throw back from the 50’s women were represented as going to college to find a husband.

    @Mnemosyne:

    And if you don’t get the irony of a guy who was convicted of domestic violence running over to help a woman in what he thinks is “a domestic violence situation,” I’m afraid I can’t help you.

    As far as I am concerned, his having a record would make him more likely to just stay out of it and not get involved, since working-class black males with records don’t always have the most harmonious relations with the police. It increased the risk of it not turning out well for him, and means he gets MORE credit for going ahead and doing the right thing anyway.
