Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

I conferred with the team and they all agree – still not tired of winning!

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

The LA BJ meetup (when I write it like that it sounds so much tawdrier and more exciting than it really is, which, from my experience in Austin, is a bunch of olds like me having drinks and some eats and bitching about their knees when they try to get up from the picnic table):

lameetup

Some pretty good looking dyed-in-the-wool, 100% Pelosi-loving, abortion-having, Jesus-hating, gun-grabbing, Streisand-singing, dope-smoking, dirty fucking hippy “FUCK YOU I RECYCLE DRIVE A PRIUS AND SUPPORT A LIVEABLE WAGE” West Coast liberal moonbats, if I do fucking say so myself.

FSM bless ya.

    Oh and I forget all the names of everyone who showed up, but included in the photo is myself, Roger Moore, Mr. Powell, Warren Terra, and Bill. Everyone else got drowned out by the awesomeness of Flogging Molly blasting in the background.

    How many minutes before Anne Laurie stomps on this post? I give it five. Anymore, I write a post, publish it, come back five minutes later and schedule Anne’s post for 30 minutes later.

    Watching Maher, and I want to jump through the Samsung and strangle Greenwald. What a waste of human flesh. Whoever the NRO limey is can kiss my ass also, too. He’s trying like a good little fella to fly the Benghazi kite. Questions must be answered. I have a few answers.

    The green balloons were all Roger’s idea. Smart thing to bring those since I was late, courtesy of an accident right at the exit I was supposed to get off at.

    @Suffern ACE:

    That is me, sadly. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a non-awful picture.

    I wasn’t kidding about how shy and retiring I am IRL, but Feebog (and Mrs. Feebog), James Powell, and Something Fabulous all forced me to talk to them, so it worked out. Turns out that Something Fabulous and I are both from the Chicago suburbs, which is very funny after a couple of beers (or a couple of Hansen’s in my case since I don’t like beer).

    @James E. Powell: No I think Cole sounds quite a bit different in that state. More the Ce Lo Cole. I’ve driven, ridden and walked by the Golden Road many times but never stopped in; it’s quite a nice place. Of course, much of that had to with the lively discussion with my fellow Juicers.

    @Mnemosyne: Let’s stay in touch about that. I always love looking at/feeling yarn – always wanted to have a yarn shop of my own, just so I could fondle the yarn and arrange the colors :)

    I used to have a whole room dedicated to my yarn, strung all around the walls on threads and piled in baskets. Made me very happy :)

    @Mnemosyne: Well, you never know what might happen from fondling yarn. G might have good reason to be concerned.

    @dance around in your bones: Fondling yarn? Kinda sounds a tad bit kinky. Then again I like the Kinks, so carry on.

    @Amir Khalid: A bit more of difficult a journey for you than me, I walked there. While I wasn’t sure that I would attend a meetup, once they said it would be 5 blocks away, it’d be rude not to attend. It does seem that 2 Juicers probably live in my area. Fortunately, I was mostly obscured in the photo by PSIFighter probably saving the camera lens and circuitry.

    @MomSense:

    Don’t worry too much about your LYS — every time I decide to only knit from my stash, it turns out that there’s a few additional skeins I need for the project because the colors I have don’t quite work together or I decide I want a different edging or something.

    I’m working on a version of this right now in cream and brown stripes with a green edging. I had to buy the brown because the green and blue I had didn’t work well together.

    @Mnemosyne:

    I have a very tiny (w/duplicates, because I don’t really know how to use flickr) photostream under the name dance around in yer bones with a bit of my knitting and needlepoint.

    As you can (maybe) see, multi-color is kinda my thing. So I can almost always find a color that works, in my stash. Plus I don’t knit from patterns, I use charts from books like Alice Starmore’s ‘Graphs for Colour Knitting” and “Fancy Feet” which are Turkish sock patterns….I mix and match.

    Elizabeth Zimmerman taught me how to make my own sweater patterns and circular knit and even knit from the top down in one piece. I was quite the fanatic for some number of years. I mentioned before Kaffe Fassett being my knitting in color breakthrough – what a guy!
