Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

In after Baud. Damn.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

I forget who suggested Old Boy for my Netflix movie, but thank you 100 times over. Not only was the movie awesome, but now I am getting the “Because you liked Old Boy” suggestions, and that is leading me to more great movies.

BTW- Why doesn’t Netflix do what pandora does and create specific channels?

They did. I mean, you wouldn’t have tuned into the ‘Old Boy’ channel if someone hadn’t suggested it to you.

I still think you should have gone with “Dark City”. I’ve heard great things about “Old Boy” from a co-worker (and there’s a US remake), but DC is one of those overlooked movies that has some nice plot twists to go with really good imagery.

I had high hopes for the new site, but alas, posts with embedded youtube videos are still totally unreadable when viewed on an iPhone. Just like they have been for the last two years. At least.

Kind of surprised nobody ever noticed besides me. Maybe I’m the only Apple fan who spends any time here?

@GregB: Point of order! Point of order, old chap!
The reference here is to be specifically left unstated. That allows others to insert random names/themes so as to greatly amuse themselves.
If, for example, you boldly state the answer is “Hitler”, then I am prohibited from stating my preference which may or may not be Sir John Gielgud. And since FYWP did not even attempt to re-spell my spelling of Sir John’s last name then I know I am intensely correct in my assertion.
So, in sum, you fucking douchecanoe, I will thank you kindly for leaving the “you know who else” meme to be left unanswered in the future.

The iPad site sucks. Can’t highlight text, can’t click links, can’t respond to posts. However, the full site on the iPad still looks fucked up when in portrait mode because the center column compresses rather than the right column.

This redesign has been total fail so far. Site now functions dramatically worse for iPad users.

Old Boy was the best film of the bunch, but it’s part of a trilogy on revenge. The other two were Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.

BTW- Why doesn’t Netflix do what pandora does and create specific channels?

Probably not enough content? Pandora has 10s of 1000s of songs. Netflix only has 100s of shows and movies.

When I sign on I get lists of movies with headings like “Dark Cerebral Movies of the 1970’s” That isn’t a channel per se, but close enough for me.

Oldboy is from Park Chan-wook, and I pretty much think you can’t go wrong with any of his films. His English-language debut, Stoker, wasn’t all that well received, but I liked it a lot, but then, I even liked Thirst. And I believe that Quentin Tarantino considers his J.S.A.: Joint Security Area to be the best film of recent years. You might also check out the films of Kim Jee-woon (The Good, the Bad, the Weird; A Tale of Two Sisters; I Saw the Devil, but avoid his English-language debut, The Last Stand and be advised that I Saw the Devil is the most disturbing film since Audition) or Bong Joon-ho (Mother, The Host, Memories of Murder, the last of which I consider the best movie of recent years). Or just look for movies starring Song Kang-ho (the actor who plays “The Weird” in the Kim film); I think he’s the most interesting actor in movies these days, and he shows up in many of the aforementioned titles. But, as you can probably figure out, I think Korean movies these days are far better than what I see coming out of Hollywood or anywhere else.
