Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Some people are reporting that the Balloon Juice RSS feed is “broken” in NewsBlur after migrating from Google Reader. The issue is that somewhere in the transfer between NewsBlur and Google, NewsBlur gets a url like this:

https://balloon-juice.com/feed/

The correct URL is

https://balloon-juice.com/feed/

Note the “http” instead of the “https”. Either edit the feed in your feed reader, or delete and re-add it, and you should be all set.

Open thread.

    Gotta keep the McCain caught palling around with terrorists issue going.

    From the previous open thread:

    If Obama had done this — even as a senator — our media would have blasted it from the rooftops without pause for as as long as it took to destroy his career. But since McCain did it, no big deal, move on you libtard, nothin’ ta’ see here.

    Also too, Sen. Waytoobigferyerbritches, ya think something similar might happen if we started giving weapons to the rebels? Ya think some terrorists might come up and say, “We’re good honest Syrians fighting Ass-add, not terrorists, so give us some hardware, the bigger the better!” And ya think even a Sen. Waytoobigferyerbritches might not know who they were, and might give them some weapons?

    Q for the day: Is what McCain did “material support of terrorism”?

    Have to say, apart from this one hiccup, I’m a huge fan of NewsBlur. I tried Feedly at least twice, and liked it but kept reverting to Google Reader when I was in a hurry. Adapting to NewsBlur took about fifteen minutes, and it seems natural whether I’m in “fast scan” or “leisurely browse” mode. Worth the $2/month, and I haven’t tried the training features yet.

    Thank you all for your kind thoughts. At the moment I have that “How much acid did we take?” feeling. My wife had open heart surgery in December and I think that led her to think about who she is and what she wants from the rest of her life. She’s an intelligent person and I’m confident that she thought this through. Living with someone is rarely easy and I can understand that she might want to be her own person before its too late.

    For the moment I am being very careful. I do not want to fall into any of the traps that I might and I don’t want to do anything unseemly like wreck my car or write bad poetry.

    Not that you need moral support, but I did a very similar thing a long time ago in a Buick Electra. Everything worked out, and I never looked back.

    …and signing away my rights to everything else

    Nobody’s business but yours, but I don’t think most people would do that.

    @Mandalay:
    I spent a few years as a gypsy machinist living mostly in a ’57 VW transporter (Bus). I know the drill. The rest of the stuff means little to me. I have a very modest bit of income that can’t be taken away. My wife’s income dwarfs mine so I’m not going to do more than separate our finances.

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate: I’m not telling you to make lemonade, and don’t take this the wrong way (it is meant as a compliment), but you really seem far better equipped to deal with this situation than most.

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate:
    Having started out in that profession a long, long time ago I find that seasoned machinists are even rarer than 30-40 years ago. That’s what I’m doing again and I last worked in a machine shop 19 years ago. Hell now the shop owner gets mad at me when I pick up a vice, he has apprentices for that.

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate: I feel better knowing you are a machinist; that is a rare skill and still sought after.

    Not like you are a ballerina. Then you’d be in a world of hurt.

    Godspeed, and keep us posted.

    Is there any way to teach the Android 2.2 default Browser that when I switch off the Retardo Montalban mobile site mode that it should stay the frak off?
