Just looked at the concert schedules for the Del Mar and OC Fairs. Putrid. Indescribably putrid. One good show–the B-52s and X–in two months.

@ranchandsyrup: These young women played at the local farmer’s market and I can’t shake their music. I love a cello in rock and maybe because they lived in Hanoi I like them even more.
@raven: Really liked that. Thx for sharing. Count me in the “moar chello please” camp. I have a bunch of string quartet versions of some of my favorite music but I really appreciate GG writing music with the cello in mind.
@burnspbesq: Del Mar is exceptionally weak this year. Noticed a significant drop in booking after people started complaining about the weed smoke at a reggae concert at the track (talk about misplaced expectations). As such, they try to bring in artists that have a local connection or will provide a mellow crowd. Only Kendrick Lamar deviates from those guidelines this year.

@ranchandsyrup: It was funny, they are on tour and I don’t know how they got a gig at the market. They were pretty bleary eyed and said “this is the earliest we’ve ever played”. Here’s their “Vietnam”

So Cal seems so weird to me. His band plays these dinner joints and casino’s. We caught Love at one in Orange County before Arthur died. The idea of a dinner club with rock just blows me away. Guess I’ve lived in Athens too long.

fucking weird moderation for talking about the dinner clubs in LA my bro’s band plays.
@raven: Liked that one as well. The vocalist’s voice reminds me of Ritzy from the Joy Formidable. Very pretty. Forwarded to my wife and she approved as well.

Loved this!
Jimmy Fallon can be annoying sometimes, but he knows how to have fun with his material and has come up with some stuff lately that is genuinely funny and fresh-feeling.

When I saw Love in the OC they had quite a string section.
That was great! Why can’t all rap be as good as Shaggy? I guess because Shaggy isn’t really rap.

@ranchandsyrup: yea or Orlando? They just started and had played Macon Friday night. We usually get local folky types at the market so it was fun to sit there with about 5 people and dig them. I did notice that they were turning heads after a while.
@raven: Your farmer’s market sounds really cool. If I were in a band and played in Macon, I’d have to detour and leave a bag of flaming dog crap on Erickkk Erickson’s porch.

Hilarious. I’d like to hear their version of “Boombastic,” too.

My mom was a “Sweet Adeline” fanatic in her later years. it seemed harmless and a great deal of fun for her.

@burnspbesq: I think my brother Floyd cover band is playing there.

My favorite barbershop number is still “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

@raven: Maybe. Their bio sez that they’ve traveled quite a bit but I think they’re from Sarasota?

@Hillary Rettig:
Yo, hip hop called to say ‘hi’.
More notable is the fact that all three genres are brought to us courtesy of the African American community.

Fallon’s version of Reading Rainbow as Jim Morrisson. . .it made me respect Jimmy Fallon. That’s a serious achievement.
