So far, a great hockey game between the Bruins and Blackhawks.
You know how it doesn’t matter how long you are gone, your dog’s are thrilled to see you, and we humans laugh and joke about it and how they don’t understand time. In my case, it’s the same way. It doesn’t matter if I have been gone 36 hours or a week, I’m always happy to be back home with my six-shooters on my lap:
Sitting in the lazyboy watching sports with both dogs might actually be the happiest part of every single day. It’s so hard to believe that I missed out on this for all those years until Lily came along.
Redshirt
What’s the actual time a dog won’t miss you? An hour? 3? I’m not sure what their memories are capable of, or not.
Also, another mostly in focus shot. You’re on a roll, Cole!
Corner Stone
When did the Tea Party start fielding a hockey team?
trollhattan
Holy crap is that Tunch on leg, the right? You must have somebody check for circulation to your feet–I’d recommend 15-minute intervals to be on the safe side. (If Rosie, then nevermindddddd.)
And welcome home, human.
Just Some Fuckhead
Yeah, it’s really hard to believe you never sat your fat ass in the lazyboy watching sports before Lily.
muddy
When I come right back in because I forgot something, my dogs are thrilled that I am home so soon. Sorry guys, going to bum you out a 2nd time. But then they can rejoice again later. Even in 10 seconds when it turns out I forgot something else.
Suffern ACE
What sport is that exactly. I don’t recognize the uniform.
Jerzy Russian
Yup, life is good for the most part.
Comrade Jake
Cole snapped a pic during the middle of a commercial for Assassins Creed. Because that’s just the way he rolls.
jl
@Suffern ACE: I guess it’s either a Bruin or a Blackhawk. Guess they dusted off the really old heritage uniforms for the game.
Mnemosyne
@Redshirt:
I don’t know about dogs, but my cats seem to have very long memories. What they don’t have is a sense of time to put those memories into context, so the scary thing that happened two years ago stays fresh in their memory. One example: G accidentally caught Annie’s paw in the bedroom door, like, three years ago, and she’s still convinced that it’s going to happen again if she’s in the bedroom at the same time he is. Because, as far as she’s concerned, it happened yesterday, or maybe the day before.

@Suffern ACE: Pirateball.

So far, a great hockey game between the Bruins and Blackhawks.
Well, since I’m on a roll (6 winning teams picked, even if totally wrong game numbers) I was gonna say Bruins in six. Almost want to go seven, but fuck it.
You know how it doesn’t matter how long you are gone, your dog’s are thrilled to see you
My dogs are thrilled at the possibility of going outside. (Except the one who always wants to go for a car ride.) Me, not so much.

Hey everybody, how about a round of “guess which party?”
I give you California Assemblyman Brian Jones, who today shared this with us, the California taxpayers.

If you guessed the California Ahmadick Party you’d be so very close, but no, Mr. Jones is a Republican. And where does Mr. Jones originally hail from? Texas. Here are his personal hobby horses.

@trollhattan:
And thanks to them, we can trust that Dems will keep their 2/3 margin for the foreseeable future.

Who could have ever guessed that China, who hacks everything that fucking moves, would use any excuse to get out from under their doghouse?

This game is going to give me a heart attack.
Chicago clearly has more kick, but the B’s keep getting their chances.

Is this how professors pluralize these days?
No wonder the world is in the state it’s in.

China, zealous defender of internet freedom–except for the average Chinese.

@Corner Stone: @burnspbesq: of all what you say of China is true, and yet he CHOSE and is choosing China as the place he went/wants to stay????
Suffern ACE
@lamh36: well, yes. China isn’t some South American country who isn’t powerful enough to arrange for someone to get out of the country.
I don’t think he’s an Internet freedom fighter. He’s punching at the NSA specifically and the intelligence network of the US and it will be a little difficult to get him in China. China can punch back a little.
Corner Stone
@lamh36: Do you have a point beyond reiterating that Greenwald lives in Brazil?
No? Thanks.
Mnemosyne
@Suffern ACE:
China is also a country that would be very interested to learn all about the inner workings of our intelligence and would probably be willing to pay quite a bit of money to the person who provided that intelligence.
But, yes, I’m sure it’s all totally innocent that Snowden fled to China with his information and is telling them everything he knows. He spied on the US and sold the information to China for good reasons!
Corner Stone
@Mnemosyne:
Those voices in your head…they may want to ask Russia for asylum away from you.
Because you are one crazy motherfucker.

Game 1, and already into double overtime.
Suffern ACE
@Mnemosyne: if he were trying to sell secrets to china, he probably wouldn’t need the help of the post or GG. It kind of lowers the value of what he’s selling when everyone knows what’s been sold.
I am open to the idea that this one is an odd duck and not a hero. More of a Chris Dorner than a Daniel Ellsberg. He may say things I believe in and whatnot but be totally nuts at the same time in ways I can’t support. He has committed what is a very serious crime, I can agree with that. But I don’t think I’m willing to start talking about crimes he hasn’t even committed yet.

Someone give me a real time update. I have no TV and don’t trust my internet anymore cuz of NSA.

@Redshirt:
Heading into triple OT, tied at 3
different-church-lady
@Redshirt: Both teams gassed. Nathan Horton went to the dressing room in the first OT, hasn’t returned. Amazing chances at both ends, but Chicago has the edge. But Chi. gets called for the Cherry Penalty near the end of OT2, Lucic hits the post, and the horn sounds with about 50 seconds left on the penalty.
Corner Stone
@different-church-lady: Wow. That was pretty tight by you. Golf clap.
different-church-lady
@Corner Stone: Maybe not — the shot was by Bergeron, not Lucic.

Is there a shootout forthcoming?

Corner Stone
@different-church-lady: Yeah, but I thought it really spoke to me. And no one cares who hit the post, just that the puck hit the post and warbled delicately leftwards behind the goalie.
You touched my heart, that’s all that matters.
different-church-lady
@Corner Stone: Well thanks. Let me tell you about this time I almost died on a plane…
different-church-lady
Hawks survive power play, Bruins now carrying the play, big save by Crawford.
Corner Stone
This is pretty much just straight balls at this point.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@Redshirt:
Not in the playoffs. Sudden-death, 20 minute periods until someone scores.
Paging LaFontaine and Bruneteau: Someone’s gotta step up and end this thing.

Who the hell is this Jagr they keep mentioning?
Redshirt
@different-church-lady:
I’m 100% bandwagon hockey fan, sorry for any offense.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@Corner Stone:
I think he played with Gordie Howe.
different-church-lady
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): You think you were kidding: they only missed playing against each other by one year.
different-church-lady
Hawks score. Screen shot from near the blue line. Deflected by two Hawks on the way in.

Hawks win!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
different-church-lady
Well… on to game 3!
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@different-church-lady:
No, it was much longer than that. Howe retired in 1980. Jagr debuted with the Penguins in ’90.
Corner Stone
That was just nasty.
Bill WhiteB
BLACKHAWKS!!!!!
different-church-lady
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): D’OH! Brain fart. Decimalization error.
I think I’m just as tired as the players. But then again, I’m almost old enough to have played with Gordie Howe…
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
Is Pat Foley still calling Hawks’ games on the radio? I used to listen to that guy calling Grand Rapids Owls’ games back in the late ’70s/early ’80s. That guy’s the best.
different-church-lady
I can safely say I’ve never seen a game like that one. And I saw the 3OT Boston-Edmonton game in ’90. Crawford is a
great goaltender. Rask had no chance on any of the
four. Up and down. Both teams really hard working,
gritty, but with lots of talent. Clean game for the
most part. I don’t see myself hating these Hawks
the way I came to hate the Canucks.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@different-church-lady:
I haven’t seen enough of ’em to make the call on the Bruins, but that Hawks team has as many assholes gathered together since, I dunno, Mike Keenan’s Hawks. Or maybe the Avs in the mid/late ’90s.

@Dexter’s new approach: It is known.
Badmoodman
In one game, the Blackhawks have already scored more than the Penguins in an entire series.
LET’S GO HAWKS!!
MCA1
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): That’s ludicrous. Other than Kane, who’s turned all business in the last year, the Blackhawks’ marquee players are all good guys. Toews, Hossa, Hjalmarson, Sharp, Seabrook? There’s not much to hate there. The third and fourth line guys might rankle, but not significantly more than the scrappers on any other team. There’s no Rafi Torres out there for Chicago.
As for the Bruins, it’s amazing how replacing that asshole, Tea Party flag waving douchebag Tim Thomas with Rask has taken them from a team I flat out despised to one that I have a hard time getting my hate on over in just two years. They’re basically the exact same squad otherwise. It would be easy to hate Chara just because of his appearance and name, but it’s hard not to like the way the guy plays. I don’t know how a dude that tall can keep up in hockey, but he does, and uses his length to his advantage. He and Seidenberg have been outstanding this postseason.

I miss my dog.
