My boss alerted me to “Family Tree” on HBO on demand, it is absolutely hilarious and so absolutely British that it cannot be stated enough. Especially when Dad says “geneology is just like any other ology, best left to the scientists” It is really funny. Check it out.

@Viva BrisVegas: We’re really enjoying it. I think the episodes are a bit truncated, but I do like the vibe and the location. Also really like the dude who plays Longmire.
@raven: It absolutely busted my butt when I learned that Gillian was British, and when she accepted her award in her native accent I was even more blown away. Having been a total X-Phile I just could not imagine that she was a home girl. I was the same when it came to John Barrowman in Dr. Who. Whocouldaknown that he was born in Scotland?

True Blood and Californication are two shows I once enjoyed but now really can’t stand. Oh sure in time in sometimes to just see
The complete idiocy. Both are so over th top and ridiculous.

@Litlebritdifrnt: Never saw xfiles but I loved Bleak House (Anna Maxwell Martin is my fav) and she was OK as Haversham. This show is really creepy.
Watched a couple episodes of that yesterday. I like some of the quiet understanding the characters represent in some scenes.
Not sure how they can maintain suspense in such a strange and relatively desolate location.

@BGinCHI: She was so smokin’ in BG.
If I’m allowed to say those kinds of things nowadays.
Gillian Anderson is an American who spent part of her childhood in London. She seems to vary her accent with the location and the audience.

Won’t miss any of the TV shows that were recently cancelled except for ‘Southland’.

The very first scene of Jack Taylor makes me root for the gobshite minister instead of the out-of-control alcoholic cop. I think I’m watching it wrong.
@James E. Powell:
Sorry meant to say that, she can pick and choose her accent at will. Very cool.

just because I know it got buried in the previous open thread, I will be playing at the East Side showroom in Austin Texas tonight at 10 p.m. with woody pines. I’m the guy climbing on the upright bass.come out and buy a some beers, or enjoy vintage cocktails.

@James E. Powell: my mom’s Irish accent fades in and out depending on where she is or who she’s talking to. If she’s visiting family back there, and I talk to her on the phone, she sounds quite different from when she’s here.

Since this seems to be a thread full of folks who like British comedy, drama, and the combination of the two, I’ll recommend a movie, Michael Winterbottom’s Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story. It’s a circuitous story about the (semi-) fictional troubles of Steve Coogan while making a movie version of Tristram Shandy.
I thought of it because Gillian Anderson has a small part and one of the best lines in the movie. She’s also had a piece of moviemaking equipment named after her, which is alternately called a “Gilly box” or a “Scully box.”

I’ll keep the politicking in this to a minimum: Go read the first four LGF threads.
Update at 2:50 p.m. ET on June 16: We’re pulling the plug on this story, following Rep. Nadler’s comments that debunk CNET’s story. In a statement to our sister site, Nadler said: “I am pleased that the administration has reiterated that, as I have always believed, the NSA cannot listen to the content of Americans’ phone calls without a specific warrant.”

Hathaway is so great. The mystery was preposterous but I just enjoy his acting so much. Lewis too, of course.

@Mousebumples: Yes. Just hanging on for the gratuitous male nudity. (Big Joe, hello!) And Pam.
Nice to have a show without fairies, though. And Rutger Hauer as a creepy ancient vampire. He was Ann Rice’s first choice to play Lestat when Interview With the Vampire first went into production.

I’m still chucking over Veep walking through a plate glass door. But I’m the sort of person who laughed for an hour straight when this happened on LA Law. I’m a terrible human being.

While watching the ass-whipping the Spurs put on the Heat, saw a powerful documentary on Netflix called Hitler’s Children, about the life experiences of the children and grandchildren of some of the Nazi leadership, the most powerful stories were the ones of Rudolf Hoess'(commander of Auchwitz)grandson and the son of Hans Frank(the Nazi ruler of Poland). I recommend it.
I’m not defending anyone here. I do think that it’s pretty easy to fall for these stories and I doubt that this one will be the last. Maybe everyone will be more careful going forward.
He was Ann Rice’s first choice to play Lestat when Interview With the Vampire first went into production.
Man Hollywood messed up what should have been a slam dunk movie trilogy. Even better, I really wish HBO had taken the books and made them into a miniseries. Now that could have been spectacular. As it stands, I guess the stories are too old for anyone to want to make what’s obviously the source material for many of these other Vampire stories.
Cole was apparently watching the “Miss USA” pageant this evening.

@Comrade Mary: How did they get away with calling it the second half of the last season? It seems like about a year since the end of “the first half”. I want to say The Sopranos did it with S4 or so where there was this huge break in the middle like they wanted to do a short season (even by HBO’s standard) but not own up to it.

Anybody who can’t make money off Sports Night should get out of the money-making business.
Man Hollywood messed up what should have been a slam dunk movie trilogy….
No one could have imagined that when you try to adapt two 500 page novels into one 90 minute movie, it would end up being an incoherent box piece of shit.
tbh, I don’t blame the FP’ers for posting stuff. If it turns out that the stuff that they’ve linked to sucks balls, well, we find out about it, argue it out and move on. No need for vendettas is there? What matters is staying on top of stuff and talking about it and if we don’t agree, not showing up at someone’s door with a firearm. Didn’t agree with AL on this issue, I like her stuff on other threads but hell, she’s only human and we all make mistakes.
That was a great show. I haven’t watched it since it was on the air. Probably time to watch again.

So happy to see Inspector Lewis back! We’ve been waiting for ages! And in this episode, the husband, Sanjeev Bhaskar is the actor’s name — we recognized him from “The Kumars at No. 42” which was one of the funniest shows we’ve ever seen, even though we only got to see a small number of them (it was on for 7 years in Britain, but we just got a few eps. on BBC America a few years back).
