Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

The lights are all blinking red.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

My uncle has four goals in an account in Nigeria. Please send me your bank account details and when the goals are released we’ll split them.

So much for channel line ups. I watched 15 minutes of NBA pregame drivel before I decided to check ESPN2.

I slept through the last match. I didn’t really fancy watching a rugby score victory to Spain. This at least looks like being more evenly matched.

    @MikeJ:
As evidence of your good faith, I must ask you to send me at least one of those goals via a trustworthy third party first. Then we can talk.

(A friend of mine once told me her husband liked to respond to Nigerian email scammers in this manner. She said he found it amusing.)

Miracles of modern technology: I can watch the entirety of this match on my iPad. There will be no crimes of violence at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time when spouse wants to watch game 7 of the NBA finals on the big TV.

Miracles of modern technology, part deux: I will not have to get up at 2:00 a.m. Pacific time on Sunday to watch India mop the floor with England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. What was that about “oh, they won’t be the same without Tendulkar?”

The BBC liveblog notes that Chelsea FC have now scored six goals in the Confederations Cup today. Four to Nando Torres (Four! His best single-match tally in a while, I reckon), one to Juan Mata, and now one to John Obi Mikel.

OK, this is ridiculous. Spain has so much depth coming through its development system that they sent two completely different teams to the European U-21 championship (which they won) and the U-20 world championship (which starts tomorrow in Turkey).

Tetanus is a shot in the arm; it’s often combined with diphtheria and pertussis (DPT or TDAP). For rabies, they’ll give you the shot as a precaution if they can’t test the animal.

BBC online poll finds 2/3 of respondents don’t expect Luis Suarez to stay at Liverpool this season. What I think will happen is that he does stay, at least until the January transfer window; but after he serves out his suspension, Rodgers will leave him on the bench, or even off the team sheet on some days, to encourage a change of attitude.

Well, they certainly find the animal, as Suarez is usually rolling around the ground like he’s been gut shot.
