Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

This really is a full service blog.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Any reports from San Jose yet? I know some Balloon Juicers planned to attend.

If there’s a meetup planned, leave a comment on this thread and/or email me (annelaurie at verizon dot net — click on my name in the righthand column under ‘Contact’) and I’ll put the details on the front page.

Weigel is there, if you want the perspective of a smart and (usually) well intentioned, but privileged white dood* with vaguely libertarianish leanings.

Well, I’d love to know if there’s a meetup planned. I may not be a big contributor to this site but I do live literally three blocks away from where netroots nation is happening.

Also, to those who are attending, three words: Taqueria La Victoria.

    Not it.

This NYT article on the role of “Big Data” in Google’s hiring practices is awkward in many ways: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/20/business/in-head-hunting-big-data-may-not-be-such-a-big-deal.html?pagewanted=2&_r=0&smid=tw-nytimesbusiness&partner=socialflow&pagewanted=all.

For starters, when did we decide to unilaterally trade the term “data” in for “Big Data”? Or is Google’s data set really that complex?

And second, what’s up with apostrophizing standard plural abbreviations (GPAs, in this case)? It seems we’ve been doing this more and more and that, once again, I missed the memo. I don’t like it.

In conclusion, will you kids please get off my lawn?

Couldn’t pay me enough to go to Markos’ annual shitfest. They can look back on the glory days of Ned Lamont and dream of what could have been, if only they weren’t a bunch of losers and failures.

Fuck that guy, fuck his rotten site, and fuck his delusional and insane commentariat.

At a different trade show but someone alert the civil libertarians and brogressives. There is a company that serves apartments/condo/HOA that swabs dogs for DNA and then of the mgmt finds dog poop they match the swab and fine the resident.

I helped at a table there today. We had good traffic. I got to meet Imani, which was cool. Did some good networking for causes that I want to see succeed too.

I’ll be helping later in the day tomorrow.

I could make it for a meetup. I was thinking of the Britannia Arms, which has a pretty good sized room off to the side.

Some suggestions for those in town: Original Gravity Public House, for sausages and a large selection of beer; Vino Vino wine bar; O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub (no food but you can bring it in); Original Joe’s, old-school Italian with huge portions. I’d avoid Scott’s Seafood, which is overpriced and not that good.

    @Origuy:

Progressive Change Campaign Committee is having a fundraising happy hour at Original Gravity on Sunday.

I’m good for a meetup Friday evening, planning on staying in the mountains for the weekend.

@Origuy: Gordon Biersch is also pretty good. Good, house-brewed beer, and the food is pretty good too.

I’ve been pinging, but so far, no peeps. I’m at the Keynote now. Netroots comes to my home town! Woot! If you are here and need advice on where to get pizza and/or ice cream and/or Oaxacan food , I can point you in the right direction.

E.L. White was first. Funny as fcuk. Then
Barney Frank, who ended with a dig on the airlines avoiding sequester. Next was
Howard Dean, with an updated Internet-empowered message. Now it’s
John Pérez, Speaker of the CA Assembly.

Giovanni’s Pizza on Lawrence Expressway just off 101. Best Brooklyn pizza in the Bay area.

Merkley up: I’m going to go all Toastmasters, but he’s reading the script, he’s not reading the audience, and he’s doing that hand-shaking thing (left hand in this case) as if he’s making a point. Totally boilerplate. What’s on the agenda for after the keynote?

@pacem appellant: I grew up in Tarrytown. I do miss good thin crust pizza out here. And I’m a guy for the record.

If we do pick Giovanni’s be careful what you say. They are a good Sicilian family and they don’t like you cursing or talking smack about Christianity. I was there with friends once and after several pitchers of beer we were almost 86’d.
