Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

People are weird.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Republicans in disarray!

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Saturday Night Music

Hello kiddies. Did you miss me?

I’ve been quite the jetsetter these last few months, and I regret that I have been neglecting you all. My psychologist, Doctor Manfredsen, says that my blogger fatigue is responding to treatment.

I’m currently holed up in a Moscow airport hotel with no wifi and cockroaches the size of fucking beagles. The blankets made crackling noises when I first sat down on them. Mind you, there’s lots of vodka and a cute night-manager with generous ideas about customer service. Life could be worse.

What are you listening to? Bonus points for gratuitous shirt off action.

For the last two days I’ve been holed up in a Moscow airport hotel with no fucking wifi. Mind you, there’s lots of vodka.

More generally, I’ve been wearing off my post-election blogger fatigue. I’m hoping regular posting will kick in any day now.

How are you? Have you all been behaving in my absence?

I cannot stop listening to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”. Yes, I know. And every time I hear it, all I can think of is that he is the real-life Mike Seaver.

Supposedly “Growing Pains” took place in the town in which I grew up. I did not live in a house that nice.

I’m listening to the tv in the background, which is good enough for my tired ass. :) I finally located the source of an annoying noise in the front of the engine in our Mustang, which turned out to be a loose centering ring for the V belt pulley on the SFI harmonic balancer I installed years ago. It’s no real problem other than the annoying noise but I pulled it apart and put a little silicone on it to fix it in place. The company who made it cut the lock ring a few thousandths of an inch short and over the years it gradually wore loose a bit. It really isn’t necessary once the V belt pulley is bolted on but I figured I would keep it in place.

Rebuilt both alternators while I was at it so they should be good for another 23 years. Yes, two alternators. For the two batteries in the car. Dual ignition systems too.

We travel in it so I want a reliable and fast car. :)
