Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Season Four of True Blood is really getting kind of dirty like late night skin-e-max or show-it-all-the-time.

In other words, I’m having to rewind a lot.

    SkinMax is anything but pron. It’s basically the same eighteen people acting in ‘different’ movies where sooner or later they all bang each other and all you get to see are some fake tits, fake thrusting and sweat.

    Free amateur pron on the internet is more revealing and has better story lines.

    Hmm, so I’m guessing no one else watched the BET Awards right…lol.

    Just me then…ok well…I did the same thin you did when I first got hooked on True Blood. I was fighting it for a while (I was still made at CW/WB/UPN for cancelling Angel!!!) so I was boycotting vampires on TV. But then I had free HBO one weekend ’bout 5 years ago and Tru Blood was being shown in prep for whatever the current season was. So I watched Season 1-3 back to back and I was hooked.

    Funny enough, alot of the current shows I watch now I got hooked on from marathon viewings like Criminal Minds (it was counter programming Christmas Day marathon), Castle (actually I believe people on BJ may have been talking up Castle), Fringe (I’m a big X-files fan, and some episode came on one night and I liked it so much I watched the whole first 2 seasons back to back), finally, Scandal on ABC (Black Twitter were all over Scandal and I admit I gave it a chance just cause of that and I ended up watching the whole first season, but it was only 7 episodes so that wasn’t bad

    The chance of seeing Connie Britton, the Sexiest Fully-Realized, Non-Objectified Woman Alive, in the altogether is approximately zero, but I’m still going to spend the summer catching up on Nashville.

    The Newsmax headlines on the side of the page tells me Christie vetoed NJ’s medicaid expansion bill. If true, Christie has decided to let his wingnut flag fly.

    @Hill Dweller: I wonder if they have enough votes to overturn it. I also wonder if Buono is gonna pounce on this like Tunch on ahi.

    @lamh35:

    True Blood season 4 was saved by Fiona Shaw. I could watch her curse Pam all night, and I love Pam.

    I used to like Criminal Minds, but damn, that show seems to exist just to torture, maim and kill. Then the FBI figures out who the killer is in the last 10 minutes. That show went from a favorite of mine to no interest pretty quickly, but I did see dozens of episodes before I lost interest.

    Also, someone had the brilliant idea to take a couple of minutes of Oprah’s Next Chapter with Paula Deen and turn it into the omen, with Enya as a background soundtrack. Hilarious. I just wished I was high while watching it.

    @Yatsuno: I realize Christie gets a ton of free press from the Beltway, who portray him as a moderate, but he is a wingnut. If his policies were actually highlighted, voters would(hopefully) see him for what he is.

    @Hal:

    Mandy Patinkin had exactly the same feelings about Criminal Minds, to where one day he just stopped showing up on the set. Calls the show the worst mistake of his career. At least they respected him enough to give his character a sendoff that reflected his feelings (most shows just kill them off, e.g. Kal Penn’s character in House).

    There may be a fuzzy line between exploring humanity’s dark side and reveling in it, but that show crossed it so far and stayed that you couldn’t even see the line anymore.

    I never watched TV before I retired, but I’ve been watching it lately. I find it much more enjoyable now that I can watch the entire series of a show at once rather than spreading it out over weeks and years. I just finished watching all five seasons of Doc Martin. Pretty funny stuff, most of it. I used to work with a guy like that. He was a super clinician, but very strange.

    It was supposed to be, but then those weird clouds rolled in around lunchtime. Now it’s supposed to be low 90s instead of 100s the rest of the week.

    ETA: At least in Glendale, that is. No idea what the new prediction is for Irvine.

    I doubt that it really got to 7393 in Irvine. It never got above 7250 here in Orange, and they get more of an onshore breeze in the afternoon than we do because they’re closer to the water.

    @Hill Dweller: if I’m reading it right, he vetoed the law making the Medicaid expansion permanent. So nj has its Medicaid expansion this year but can back out any time. Basically, it’s like our Farm Bill, which used to get passed regularly but was some kind of emergency bill.

    92 today here in Seattle. 97 in Portland. It usually doesn’t get that hot out here, and when it does, it’s usually in mid- or late July. Hell, it’s 10:15 pm and it’s only gone down to 79.

    As as result, I’m not too sleepy and I’ve decided to watch The Sopranos. Wish I’d watched that show when it was on TV, but I didn’t have HBO then.

    What’s this heat wave I am hearing about? Send some of it our way! We were in the mid-60’s today (south Oregon coast) and are expecting the same tomorrow. Heck, it’s 62 now so not much difference…lol

    @Hill Dweller: Christie shut down the tunnel project into Manhattan by inflating the state’s long term costs. Conservatives around the country hailed him as the paragon of fiscal conservatism. Now imagine what happens when he cherry picks data from 2014 and 2015 to declare the future cost of the expansion is too great and cancels it in 2016. That might be an exaggeration of his motives, but it is more or less the reason why he vetoed it. From the Yahoo article about it:

    The vetoed bill would have removed the flexibility to opt out of the Medicaid expansion if the federal government changed the terms of the current favorable matching rate, the spokesman said. The governor had discussed publicly his intention to maintain this flexibility when he signed onto the expansion, the spokesman said.

    What should be getting publicity is that he also vetoed bills today that:

    – restored funding for family planning clinics — S-2825/A-4172;

    – expanded Medicaid family-planning funding for single residents — A-4171/S-2824;

    – funded a public awareness campaign for the federally operated health insurance exchange — A-3878/S-2673.

    (EDIT: In that last linked article there is a quote from Christie when he first signed the expansion saying if the terms change “because of adverse actions by the Obama administration, I will end it as quickly as it started.” So that could be the hook he uses to back out of it in 2016. “Blame Obama” is never a bad strategy during Republican primaries)

    @MattR: you do not lose votes kicking people off welfare with a smile in this country. I will believe that until voters prove me wrong.

    When he opts out, he will be hailed for standing up to special interests and the candidate willing to make tough decisions. Middle class men, including Democratic Party members, will hail him for that.

    I resisted watching True Blood for a long time but it’s actually a way smarter and funnier show than you’d expect. The first two seasons are wildly entertaining TV (it also has the best intro ever for a TV show). It’s essentially a smart campy satire. Now, the show has pretty much outgrown itself. The pacing, which makes binge viewing a joy, isn’t something that any show could keep up with over a long time.

    It’s on its last legs, I sense season 7 will be the last. But it’s still more fun and ridiculous than most other stuff on tv, and Alexander Skarsgård/Eric Northman is worth my viewing time.

    I thought it was weird in last night’s episode (no real spoiler) when Sam was shown running around in pants after he had shifted. I thought “they passed up a chance for some ass shots!?” And then I realized he was in a scene with a small child. Legal issues all over that one!

    Season three of True Blood had Nazi werewolves, and I was wondering how they were gonna top that. Answer: more skin.

    If they had buck naked Nazi werewolves in UFOs that would be even better for season 7, but somehow I don’t think UFOs would fit with the show’s premise.
