@raven:
Why exactly do those two travel the world together? And is this travel paid for by the US Government? Even now, when as I understand McCain is no longer on the US Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee?
@Southern Beale: Oddsfish. FYWP has eted two comments I’ve left on your place. I’ve posted there before no issue.
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): Grampy needs a constant supply of young blonds and Huckleberry’s proclivities aren’t legal there. So unfortunately they’ll come back.

I’ll take the Star Spangled Banner over Proud to Be An American any day. Unfortunately, I’ve already heard it once today.
@Southern Beale: I have accidentally dripped paint on the carpet, and have accidentally stubbed my toe, but I have never accidentally passed a piece of legislation.
I think the problem with stupid people is that they too stupid to know that they are stupid. If you can convince them they are stupid, they are too stupid to change.

Waiting for G to get back from his morning bike ride so we can watch his favorite (and seasonal) musical. Not sure what else we’re doing today, though I’ll probably have to head to the grocery store at some point.

@Yatsuno:
They came by last year, apparently just for a photo op with the PM. They didn’t stay, thank God.
@Redshirt: I was thinking of your stream project this morning. I’ve got several stone walls that have collapsed due to the excessive rain. I don’t think I can even stand to think about fixing it until it cools down a lot.
Despicable Me 2 is already playing here. Is great. The minions are even funnier than the first time around. Don’t miss it. Bring the kids if you got’em.
@muddy: Yeah, I got washed out last year, so I rebuilt everything, adding about two feet of height and another foot of width. Thankfully, I’m sitting on a veritable rock quarry and have lots and lots of rocks. You may not be as “blessed”.
But also: I wouldn’t do jack today. It’s America’s birfday!

@Amir Khalid: I may see that tonight. A drive-in theater not too far away is showing it. Depends on whether or not it rains. Drive-ins suck when it rains.
@Betty Cracker:
In my visits to the US, all during the first Clinton presidency, I never got around to seeing a real live drive-in cinema. I thought they’d gone out of business when the multiplexes came up. Are there a lot of them left? Have they gone multiplex too?

@Amir Khalid: There are fewer than there used to be, but the ones I know about are still the old-fashioned kind with only one screen. The one we go to has been around since my parents were children back in the 1950s.
It has a grill with greasy, tasty food, cokes, candy, etc. — all at dirt cheap prices! When we go, we load a ratty old love-seat into the back of the truck for us to sit on as well as a blow-up mattress and blankets for when the kids fall asleep. It’s awesome.

@Southern Beale: With Nelson Mandela being in the hospital and the Supreme Court decisions about DOMA and Prop 8, I heard someone on the radio say that Mandela supported gay marriage as far back as 1994.
@Amir Khalid: There’s far fewer drive-ins than there were in the 1950s and 1960s. Vermont went from 28 to 4 as of this summer. The big issue right now is digital conversion, which is a huge capital cost for a business that only operates 4 to 6 months a year. But there are still quite a few drive-ins around.

@Amir Khalid: there are some around. There is one near me that survived the 70’s and 80’s by showing pr0n. Curiously, while a pr0n venue, it was the last theater I know of that still played the national anthem before the show. It shows 1st and 2nd run movies now, and the snack bar offers food just slightly above the level of cafeteria tray scrapings.
Thank you for that most timely reminder. The husband and I used to watch his show years ago on some long-forgotten channel…..and his name came up recently during a discussion of horror movies…..except I couldn’t remember what his name was.
