Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

All hail the time of the bunny!

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Consistently wrong since 2002

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

When we show up, we win.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

I have nothing to offer politics wise, so I thought we could have a cheesy music night, BTW- tomorrow and Monday night I think we are going to have an Artists in our Midst thread or two. It’s been forever since we have had one, and I need some wall art.

Oh, my offering in the cheesy music genre is this:

Can’t wait to see where this post goes.

In the summer of 1976 this must have been at or near the top of the hit parade. I was down in Florida visiting my sister and rented a car to drive up to Orlando to visit the sister of a woman I was sleeping with. Driving across Florida the “love bugs” were out. These things just coated the windshield and car.

The sister worked at the Ringling Brothers Circus.

Whenever I hear that song I think about her.

My dad, a frustrated musician wannabe, would deliver passionate disquisitions about Karen Carpenter’s abundant gifts whenever The Carpenters came on the AM in the car when I was growing up. To this day, I cannot drive to the beach without thinking of this song or “Stuck in the Middle,” by Stealer’s Wheel.

That song has some kick-ass arrangements. Roger Nichols wrote the music and Paul Williams wrote the lyrics… for a TV ad. Richard Carpenter selected the song and arranged it for The Carpenters to perform on one of their albums (I think the second). Magic.
