Revenge is a dish best served with pie!

What the hell is going on with Balloon Juice? I’ve been getting virus alerts from the site and someone hacked my account yesterday and commented a lot of stupid shit about cats.
Get this shit fixed NOW.

I thought there was supposed to be a huge freak out about the senate compromise?

The title reminded me of the scene from “The Help”, near the end of the movie. While the two women are arguing on the porch, the mom comes out, looks at the one who isn’t her daughter and says, “I believe you’ve had too much…pie.”

How about some good news.

@The Other Bob: House of Lords passed equal marriage. Now it’s all over but the shouting.

Had an interesting colloquy with TRex about Cruz and Paul signing on as co-sponsors of Gillibrand’s bill to change how sexual harassment and sexual assault cases are handled in the military justice system.
He’s afraid they’re going to hijack the bill and use at as a vehicle for some horror-show. I think it’s today’s Blind Squirrel Moment.

I assume you’re referring to that decent person who was commenting yesterday under your nym?
Betty, I want that pie so much. I can’t believe an actual person can do those beautiful lattice thingys.

My blood sugar spiked just looking at that pie.

I don’t know if it counts as good, but file it under LOLWUT? 21st century meets This was why there was a Reformation. Vatican offers ‘time off purgatory’ to followers of Pope Francis tweets.

Why, after everything else that FB has done with privacy, are my “friends” concerned about some graph feature that is so powerful that “strangers will be able to see pictures of my kids so I am going to have to unfriend you unless you click on me and change my settings” all of a sudden? I am not seeing what makes the FB Graph so different.

@Suffern ACE: Timing and it’s become trendy.

I like cake, but I love pie. There was a blueberry/nectarine pie made in this house last week that was killer-diller.

Just found a recipe for “pie bars” (fruit in an egg and butter with flour crust) filled with cherries that is wonderful; Michigan has something called a “cottage law” that allows sale of certain home-prepared foods, but they were so miserable to package that we’re going back to our jams, homemade soaps, and caramel corn at the local farmers markets.

Because Snowden is a heroic whistle-blower and Greenwald is a crusading journalist, everybody is now fully up to speed on what the NSA is doing.

@gogol’s wife:
I can because I watched my mom make them so often. I suspect they’re one of those things like homemade bagels, where the hardest part of making them is convincing yourself that it’s actually possible for ordinary people like you to make them.

@raven: If the Dems get an uperdown vote on all current and future nominees, it’s progress. I’d rather see the filibuster go completely, but I doubt few in the Senate agree.
The one upside to the deal is that the precedent of changing the rules mid-session by a majority vote has not yet been set. I’d rather the Dems let the Repukes break that norm.

Mentioned it late in another thread, but if Troll-B-Gone was broken for you, there’s a new fixed version up. With most browsers it should update itself with other extensions, but if that doesn’t happen or you’re impatient, head to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/167925 and click the green “install” button at the top right.

@raven: Me, I’m freaked out that the New york Knickerbockers saw fit to allow Ron Artest to play out the declining years of his career back in his home town. Yo, guys, he was fucking released, and you have to pick him up? Why not just give the money to me, I promise to flush it down the toilet with less drama.

Well, pie IS good! I’ve won a couple of pie baking contests at parties around the neighborhood. One secret is making pecan pie and substituting out the Karo corn syrup for real, genuine Maple Syrup. Much better than regular pecan pie. M likes it best with walnuts swapped for the pecans, the bitter of the walnuts helps cut the extra sweetness of the maple syrup, she says.
My Dad liked his pecan pie with vanilla ice cream – it cuts the richness of the pie he said, and it does.
But when the peaches are ripe, I know a better recipe, a family Pennsylvania Dutch recipe. Peach Kuchen!
Here’s my Grandma’s recipe:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt (I leave this out but for one little shake)
1 cup sugar
12 peach halves
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 egg yolks
1 cup sour cream
Cut butter into sifted flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons of sugar. It should be much like a pie crust. Pat it into the bottom and sides of an 8 or 9 inch square pan. Arrange peach halves in shell, sprinkle with remaining sugar/cinnamon mix. Bake 15 minutes in 400 degree oven.
Remove and pour sour cream with beaten egg yolks over top. (I often add some cinnamon to this) Bake 30 minutes longer at 350 degrees. Sometimes I’ll add vanilla extract to it, or some similar flavored fluid.
G.H. (my grandma’s initials! I still have her typewritten recipe she gave us after we got married 42 years ago) This won’t work with canned or frozen peaches… just ripe ones, dripping wet with juices.
