Sitting here with Seth and Bill, eating some guacamole and drinking a bottle of sauvignon blanc and rocking out to one of the best bands that got critical acclaim but never attained the record sales they deserved:
And that is also true for Primus and Oysterhead.

I have never heard of that band. Does that make me a bad person?

Back from The Conjuring. Solid, enjoyable movie. Not the scariest I have ever seen, but well made. Felt like a cross between Exorcist and Poltergeist.
Punchy
Without playing the vid, but just seeing the art in the still pic and yer follow-up commentsn can I guess this is Les Claypool-related? Da bomb, yo.

For lack of better things to do, I have been keeping track of the ice in the vicinity of the North Pole (see http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/). The area covered by ice is quite low (roughly two standard deviations below the baseline average). The ice reached its lowest extent (since 1979) in September 2012, and from the current trends, it looks like the ice could retreat to the 2012 levels. Welcome to the new normal.

Primus is on the road this summer. I saw them at High Sierra Music Festival over the 4th. Fun. Les Claypool is such a character.

@Walker:
The Salon review described this movie as “right wing and woman hating.” Did you pick up on that? The story sounds interesting.

I thought for a moment you were referring to the 1966-1971 Kinks.

If you’re a geek, 2015 will be a very good year with both the Avengers sequel (with Ultron, no less) and a Batman/Superman team up flick.

Has anyone watched all three seasons of Durham County? Jeebus, I seriously am contemplating suicide after S2 just to avoid having to watch how all the remaining main characters get played and filleted by the sick psychopaths they fall for in S3. Thankfully it was cancelled after three seasons. Probably because all the fans of the show killed themselves in fucking despair. The Starks have nothing on the Sweeneys.

@Comrade Dread: I’m dreading that Batman/Superman film!
I though Man Of Steel was great, and is begging for a sequel with Lex Luthor.
But Batman? Nolan said he was done with the role. How does a new Batman sound in a Superman movie?

The boy is in green valley, AZ (south of Tucson) with his wingnut grandparents.
wife is in DC for ONE NIGHT for some fucking meeting.
I’m drinking wine, and making sure the pets don’t die of neglect.
On the up side, I work a 12 hour day tomorrow, and will probably not accomplish one single thing while there.

Got back from Kaiju Wrestling. I would not have known such a thing existed if I hadn’t gone and searched for information on Kaiju after watching Pacific Rim. I’m not just a nerd. I’m a 12 year old nerd to boot.

With the youngling at swimming state championships. She started off with a couple of DQs so it has been a bit of a struggle. She did help lead the relay team to a sixth place finish so there’s that.

@NotMax: I’ll go see it, of course. But I’ll bitch all the way!

U Got Bigfooted.
I thought I saw a Bigfoot print once in the woods. It was indeed, huge. Size 24, 28? Something huge. It was in a low spot on a trail that was naturally wet, so mud formed, and there was the huge ass, indistinct (i.e. foot shaped, but with no detail like toe marks or pad prints, etc) footprint. About 8 feet above it, climbing out from this low spot, was a huge pile of what looked like cat scat, contained within it bits of fluorescent orange trail-markers. I was all like: Bigfoot, man!
In retrospect, the footprint was probably a snow-shoe-er, who hit this low spot and sank through the snow into the wet late winter ground.
The scat? No idea. Bobcat?

Don’t know if anyone else sees this, but half the time JC posts one of these videos, it’s just a list of Amazon.com ads. I think if I refresh, the actual video appears. First few times, I thought JC was literally trying to do a pitch, like DJs do on the radio.

@Royston Vasey:
Yikes! Well, you guys are in the Ring of Fire with the rest of the Pacific. Hope everyone is okay.
We have our earthquake kits all ready to go here in California, just in case.

If they wanted to sale records/CD’s they should have marketed as Hill-Billy Hip Hop.
Uncle Ebeneezer
Primus’ first album, Frizzle Fry, is one of my favs. They are a quirky band that is easy not to like, because of Claypool’s odd vocals, and the silly lyrics. But I would encourage just about anyone who likes a good concert to see them live. They sound so much better and the energy/intensity of their performance are amazing.
Ben W
@Uncle Ebeneezer: frizzle fry is definitely one of my favs, too, and probably their most accessible to new listeners. And all their other other albums thru Tales from the Punchbowl are great.

Primus has played at Bonnaroo. 2011 I think. They have had a good amount of aclaim, IMO.
