Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

A couple of people have reported that Feedly is not loading our RSS feed since the malware problem last week. My feed service, Feedbin, is working fine, and I verified that Feedly is requesting the feed from us and getting a good response, so I think it is a problem with Feedly.

I know at least one of you has reported this issue to Feedly, but if you use Feedly and have a problem, please report it to them. Maybe a little more noise will get them to fix it. If anyone hears back from Feedly with a request to fix something or other, please let me know via email.

NYTimes public editor weighs in on Nate Silver leaving for ESPN:

I don’t think Nate Silver ever really fit into the Times culture and I think he was aware of that. He was, in a word, disruptive. Much like the Brad Pitt character in the movie “Moneyball” disrupted the old model of how to scout baseball players, Nate disrupted the traditional model of how to cover politics.

His entire probability-based way of looking at politics ran against the kind of political journalism that The Times specializes in: polling, the horse race, campaign coverage, analysis based on campaign-trail observation, and opinion writing, or “punditry,” as he put it, famously describing it as “fundamentally useless.” Of course, The Times is equally known for its in-depth and investigative reporting on politics.

    …
    * A number of traditional and well-respected Times journalists disliked his work. The first time I wrote about him I suggested that print readers should have the same access to his writing that online readers were getting. I was surprised to quickly hear by e-mail from three high-profile Times political journalists, criticizing him and his work. They were also tough on me for seeming to endorse what he wrote, since I was suggesting that it get more visibility.

Who? Which 3 high profile politiporn purveyors?

It seems the public editor has some issues with traditional NYT political coverage too.

Going to be fun to watch this story play out.

I’ve been using Feedly on Firefox and Linux without a problem, at least that I have noticed. It is probably something specific ether to a platform or a user, or both. One thing I did do was remove the Firefox plug-in for Feedly when they converted to the web app. It didn’t seem to add anything very useful, and adding plug-ins you don’t need is asking for trouble.
ETA no problems with the Android app either, at least in reading the feed.

@Elizabelle: I only vaguely recall the horse race coverage of politics taking over. Seems like it happened after Carter, but I could be wrong. The whole, lazy, “omg, a new poll just came out showing the president trailing” kind of story seems to be even more recent than that. In the past, they may have had stories about polls, but they actually had stories that informed you about the candidate’s positions on issues. This is no longer allowed because the Republicans are simply lying about everything

If Silver was not the most popular figure inside the Times newsroom, he was hugely popular outside it. … On the day before the election [NYT traffic via Silver’s site] hit 20 percent.

It’s no mystery why people were reading Silver. His forecasts for the 2012 election were spot on for all 50 states. In the weeks prior to the election, when members of the political chattering class from George Will to Joe Scarborough were lecturing about how close the race was, Silver saw the president with a better than 90% chance of re-election. The democratic victory vindicated Silver and gave the lie to his detractors’ supposed expertise.

You might check your link and feed settings as well.
I’m starting feedly by a bookmark to “http://cloud.feedly.com/#index” not the original “www.feedly.com” (the old link redirects, it shouldn’t matter, but BJ used to do weird stuff without the www. so who knows?)

My RSS feed is specified as “https://balloon-juice.com/feed/” that you get from the rss icon at the top of the screen I used to the WordPress atom feed a few BJ generations ago, but that would fail intermittently. You can check your feed by selecting “organize” and then “export html” and looking for the BJ feed definition for the type=rss, xmlUrl=. There may be a more straight forward way, but I haven’t found it. Or you could just delete and re-add it, it should take the default settings automatically, but it would be interesting to know if the problem is in the settings.

FWIW, I deleted the feed, then re-added it, and it’s been fine since.

I use the feed.ly android app and this hasn’t been happening (chrome warnings) for several days.

I’m generally against gun violence, but that pun in the headline really ought to be taken out and shot.

I had this problem with Feedly. Unsubscribed from the B-J feed and resubscribed, then everything worked fine. I think it may have been because I tried to access the B-J feed too many times while The big G still had it on the danger list. Perhaps some safety feature of Chrome or Feedly, or a combination of both.
