No complaints about OUR local weather. I’ll take the 8-10 inches of rain we’re expected to get here tonight on the windward side of Oahu and let the Mainland folks keep their 8-10 inches of snow come January. Aloha!
PsiFighter37
Hope the folks in Hawaii are alright. Hope my vacation there in 2.5 weeks is still okay, but first and foremost, hope that they get through it okay. Seems really strange that a hurricane could form in the middle of the Pacific…

Hey, we had a butt-load of rain here in NJ last night. But we really needed it. And today was an almost perfect summer day. And getting a break from the crippling heat wave in mid-July…. I really have no complaints just now. Well, there are lots of mosquitos. Beyond that tho…
Cassidy
It’s hotter ‘n a well digger’s ass down here. And in bunker gear. Got so depleted today I could feel my heart rate shoot up.
PsiFighter37
@Cassidy: And where might that be?
It was a solid day (for the summer) in NYC – low-mid 80s, a little humid but not oppressively so. Perfect evening to go run outside, but I did my run yesterday.
ranchandsyrup
My local blight is weather related. It’s too damn hot in Arizona so a large % of that infernal state is here. Damn ‘Zonies.
SiubhanDuinne
I’m bitching about nothing. We hit mid 80s today, with humidity about 35% (normally, July in Atlanta would be well north of 90 on both scales). Just beautiful, today and the same forecast for tomorrow, with rain maybe returning on Wednesday. But I’ll take it while I can get it.
So sorry about everyone dealing with floods, storms, fires, and other dangers. Take care, all of you in harm’s way.
gelfling545
The last few days it’s been extremely pleasant. Rain at night & mixed sun & clouds by day with fairly low humidity & pleasant temperatures.
brettvk
I live in the Ozarks, and it’s a heartening sign of humanity’s oneness to see fools in PA and NJ driving through floodwaters with the same blithe stupidity exhibited by my neighbors — one at least of whom manages to drown themselves during every heavy rain event even when they’ve lived by that low-water crossing all their life. America, fuck yeah!

I’ve given up on solar power this year, since, apparently, it only rains. I’m running a huge deficit compared to the same time last year – and of course the last two months were the prime solar power generation months.

We’ve had a nice stretch of weather of late in the Adirondack Park, which is a nice change of inches of rain every day in June…
Best of luck to all in harm’s way.

A Vegas-bound tour bus got washed off the road in Kingman, AZ yesterday and ended up on its side 300 yards downstream. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

I just can’t take another day of high 70/low 80s weather in Seattle (what’s rain?) and daylight that last for 15 hours. OK, I admit it can be foggy in the AM, but that’s our AC. Otherwise we would just be as hot as eastern WA.

On our local news station, it seems they’ve had the one crawl line, ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown!’ at the bottom of the screen for the past six months. And cue the inevitable footage of some dink trying to drive through four feet of water and having to get rescued from the top of his car.

68 and overcast here. Forecast for the week: low to mid 80s. Beats the 100+ heat and drought we had last year, or the 6 months of the Missouri being out of its banks 2 years ago.
What climate change?
JPL
Since I live in the same area as SiubhanDuinne , I can’t complain about today’s weather. The NYTimes had an article about the GA farmers producing about fifty percent less this year because of cooler temperatures and significant rainfall. Weather is weird and I blame fat Al Gore.

How’s the firefighter gig going?
ranchandsyrup
@burnspbesq: Gotcha. You may want to do some Rainwater harvesting (if it ever does rain again). I think that LADWP has a program (if they’re your provider). For the garden you can take a bucket in the shower with ya and collect the non-soapy part. Lots of small-scale ways to battle the high bills.

Intense sudden rainstorm this afternoon here, WSW of Boston. 60 mph wind, dumping buckets and hail, lasted about 20-25 min: went from sun to hurricane to sun again in the space of half an hour.

Anyone read “The Sandman” graphic novel? Or novels? Neil Gaiman, at his best, I think. The series is incredible. I’m re-re reading it, and I think it could be re-read many, many times. The Adventures of The Corinthian and Mathew is one for the myths.

Here in balmy south Texas, it is 82 to begin the morning and 103 when I leave work and get in my car to drive home at 1:00 p.m. It may cool off to high 70’s by 4:00 a.m. And, to top it off, I have been having AC problems off and on for the last couple of weeks. I think it is finally fixed, thanks to FSM, but I have lost a lot of faith in the AC repair company.

Municipal water department that’s living in the past (you can’t pay your bill online unless you can use IE). The pricing structure actually makes sense: we’re heavy users so we pay through the nose. The conversation that beings with “do you really have to water that much?” is not one I’m interested in having, because there is no good outcome.
Roger Moore
Nothing much to complain about around here, weatherwise. We’ve been getting mild summer weather, i.e. highs in the mid 80s, lows in the 60s, not too much humidity. I’m just hoping against home that August can stay the same way, rather than having a couple weeks of infernal heat the way it usually does.

It’s been very smokey here in NorCal, 10 miles from the coast. Lightning fires in SW Oregon are the cause but the wind and fog is shifting inland and it will be mostly gone by tomorrow. I have an underground shale aquifer spring that is only producing what it usually does at the end of August or early Sept. Have never run out in 30 years but… Do have 7K gallons in backup tanks and all overflows go directly to the garden where I can change the lucky tree recipient daily.

We’ve had some nice, cooler weather come in and bust up a heat wave in MN. Always nice because my dog is so heat intolerant, but is a high energy dog who needs his exercise. Had a really nice walk along the river this afternoon.

Rainy…. very rainy….. here in western Maine. Lake the highest I’ve ever seen it (and my memory goes back to the late 1960s/early 1970s).
I’m 7/10 of a mile down a dirt road. Spent a couple hours on road repair today; not the first time this summer, either :-(
But the woods are very green….. and the risk of forest fires is low enough that a nearby fire risk reminder sign (that my brother and I used to joke hadn’t bothered to buy the low sign, just medium, high, and very high) has actually said low for the last 10 days.
Oh, and the other upsides: lots of reading, knitting, and kitty cuddling ;-)

Expect the brunt of the tropical storm to pass over Maui tonight and all day Tuesday.

Microbursts of destruction, then nothing, then destruction every half mile or so. Weird.

No complaints from me about the weather here in NoVa. It’s 73° now, after a high of only 80° earlier today—and that on a fairly bright, sunny day. Very nice! Going down to 63° tonight, so the windows will remain open, and it looks like more of the same for the next ten days: highs in the low 80s, nothing higher than 84°.
This after a heat wave earlier in the month that included a week of highs between 94° and 96°—and me without A.C., which broke down in the middle of that. At one point the temp inside my apartment was 89°. Barely made it through by camping out in front of my little Vornado fan and running the bedroom ceiling fan on “turbo” at night. My skin was getting chapped from all the wind action!

I did have a laugh about the newsreader hacks squealing about 8″ of rain on the East Coast. Suppose they’d’ve squealed about whatever, but srsly. Places in central Kentucky got 24″ in one 24 hour period a while back (15 yrs?) but it happened. Lexington got over 10″, and we watched our neighbors down the hill having carpets taken out en mass. People in Cynthiana got everything destroyed. But because there was actual Federal government relief (including rehousing a lot of folks who otherwise would have been in tents or worse for a long time), it wasn’t worse. I know from this because my Section 8 program (yes) took in a bunch of those folks). it scarcely made any news at all, because it was just some poor folks in a boring place.

Rain so heavy in the southeastern United States it is destroying key crops on the ground. Georgia 34% above normal, Alabama 22% above normal.
