Best wishes for our readers in Hawaii, and here’s hoping the flash floods in Pennsylvania / Las Vegas / North Carolina didn’t do too much damage.

Consider this your thread to bitch about local weather conditions, among other blights…

No complaints about OUR local weather. I’ll take the 8-10 inches of rain we’re expected to get here tonight on the windward side of Oahu and let the Mainland folks keep their 8-10 inches of snow come January. Aloha!

Hope the folks in Hawaii are alright. Hope my vacation there in 2.5 weeks is still okay, but first and foremost, hope that they get through it okay. Seems really strange that a hurricane could form in the middle of the Pacific…

Hey, we had a butt-load of rain here in NJ last night. But we really needed it. And today was an almost perfect summer day. And getting a break from the crippling heat wave in mid-July…. I really have no complaints just now. Well, there are lots of mosquitos. Beyond that tho…

It was a solid day (for the summer) in NYC – low-mid 80s, a little humid but not oppressively so. Perfect evening to go run outside, but I did my run yesterday.

I’m bitching about nothing. We hit mid 80s today, with humidity about 35% (normally, July in Atlanta would be well north of 90 on both scales). Just beautiful, today and the same forecast for tomorrow, with rain maybe returning on Wednesday. But I’ll take it while I can get it.

So sorry about everyone dealing with floods, storms, fires, and other dangers. Take care, all of you in harm’s way.

I live in the Ozarks, and it’s a heartening sign of humanity’s oneness to see fools in PA and NJ driving through floodwaters with the same blithe stupidity exhibited by my neighbors — one at least of whom manages to drown themselves during every heavy rain event even when they’ve lived by that low-water crossing all their life. America, fuck yeah!

I just can’t take another day of high 70/low 80s weather in Seattle (what’s rain?) and daylight that last for 15 hours. OK, I admit it can be foggy in the AM, but that’s our AC. Otherwise we would just be as hot as eastern WA.

Nothing much to complain about around here, weatherwise. We’ve been getting mild summer weather, i.e. highs in the mid 80s, lows in the 60s, not too much humidity. It’s been very smokey here in NorCal, 10 miles from the coast. Lightning fires in SW Oregon are the cause but the wind and fog is shifting inland and it will be mostly gone by tomorrow. I have an underground shale aquifer spring that is only producing what it usually does at the end of August or early Sept. Have never run out in 30 years but… Do have 7K gallons in backup tanks and all overflows go directly to the garden where I can change the lucky tree recipient daily.

Rainy…. very rainy….. here in western Maine. Lake the highest I’ve ever seen it (and my memory goes back to the late 1960s/early 1970s).

I’m 7/10 of a mile down a dirt road. Spent a couple hours on road repair today; not the first time this summer, either :-(

But the woods are very green….. and the risk of forest fires is low enough that a nearby fire risk reminder sign (that my brother and I used to joke hadn’t bothered to buy the low sign, just medium, high, and very high) has actually said low for the last 10 days.

Oh, and the other upsides: lots of reading, knitting, and kitty cuddling ;-)

No complaints from me about the weather here in NoVa. It’s 73° now, after a high of only 80° earlier today—and that on a fairly bright, sunny day. Very nice! Going down to 63° tonight, so the windows will remain open, and it looks like more of the same for the next ten days: highs in the low 80s, nothing higher than 84°.

This after a heat wave earlier in the month that included a week of highs between 94° and 96°—and me without A.C., which broke down in the middle of that. At one point the temp inside my apartment was 89°. Barely made it through by camping out in front of my little Vornado fan and running the bedroom ceiling fan on “turbo” at night. My skin was getting chapped from all the wind action!

I live in south/central Texas, so nothing to worry about here – except for the out-of-control forest fire (200+ acres so far today) a few miles from my home, the 100+ degree forecast for the next 10 days, and, of course, no anticipated rainfall.

I just hope the governor doesn’t get involved. The last time he prayed for rain our house damn neared burned to the slab (forest fires are like that).

Can’t possibly catch up, and happy to skip … so general good wishes to ppl in Hawai’i. We’ve thought and thought about moving there (probably not Maui, can’t afford it, but we loved Hilo when we were there).

I did have a laugh about the newsreader hacks squealing about 8″ of rain on the East Coast. Suppose they’d’ve squealed about whatever, but srsly. Places in central Kentucky got 24″ in one 24 hour period a while back (15 yrs?) but it happened. Lexington got over 10″, and we watched our neighbors down the hill having carpets taken out en mass. People in Cynthiana got everything destroyed. But because there was actual Federal government relief (including rehousing a lot of folks who otherwise would have been in tents or worse for a long time), it wasn’t worse. I know from this because my Section 8 program (yes) took in a bunch of those folks). it scarcely made any news at all, because it was just some poor folks in a boring place.

It’ll make much better TV when San DIego County goes up in flames again. Possibly not this year. Even here at the last gasp of the marine layer, there’s moisture. The daytime humidity for the last couple of weeks has been killer for garden work, but fine.
