IPad site is still a mess. When viewing the iPad site, you cannot click on anyone’s links or videos, the home button works only about half the time, and you can’t tap the top of the window to scroll to the top. When viewing the desktop ste on the iPad site in portrait mode, the third column is still the widest, and the middle column adjusts to only be about three words wide. In landscape, it looks fine.

I’ve been trying to get a Happy Birthday message to SiubhanDuinne all freaking day………my comments just spin in the “connecting” mode and eventually disappear.
This one prolly will, too.
If, by any chance this gets through – I am singing to you through the ‘tubes SiubhanDuinne!
I really dislike it when BJ is down :(

The house that I bought several years ago needed a lot of work and now that the inside is done, I have been tackling the outside. I have a large deck, a smaller cement patio and about 1000 sq ft of flagstone that had lots of gravel between each piece. In order to soften the look, I’ve decided to lift the flagstone and put it back in an area about 600 sq. ft. and fill the rest with grass. Three weeks ago for my birthday, the sons lifted all the flagstone and the last two Saturdays we have been trying to put it back down with only inch space in between. hahahahahahahaha I can lift up to fifty pounds but some of the pieces are 3 ft plus and guess what they are all different shapes and sizes. After two Saturdays of hard work and only about 200 sq ft done, I’m ready to call in a crew. This is not a job for a perfectionist.
Suzanne
Häppy bïrthday to Omnes and SiubhanDuinne! YAAAAY!!

@JPL:
Absolute perfection is a myth.
It only has to be perfect enough.
Figure out what that is and do that.
Calming Influence
Wait, I invoked Hitler. There should be no comments after mine. (Sorry mistermix; who coulda node they were actually getting through?)
JPL
@Ruckus: yup…
That is actually a job that we can’t do. Flagstone looks great close together with sand paver in between and we are just to intense about it. We are attacking it like a puzzle with to many pieces.
Ruckus
@JPL:
And nothing more.
I was raised by perfectionists. It took me decades to figure out that in most things I attempt, I’m my own worst critic. Once I got there my life got a lot simpler. It didn’t look any different, it was just a lot easier.

Off to my 25th class reunion. After a nice day in Madison celebrating the wonders of mustard, I expect the evening to be a downer. Happy National Mustard Day to y’all, if you didn’t get my card in the mail on time.
raven
@JPL: Did you see my link to using glass for landscaping?
Ruckus
@JPL:
Step back and try to picture the overall effect, not the small, inconsequential details. In other words don’t over think it.
I built a flagstone porch end of last year and as I was doing it for someone else I wanted it to be outstanding. I spent two days trying to figure it out and get it just so. Finally said screw it and just put stones in place and cemented them in. The property owner loved it and in the ene I didn’t bust a single neuron getting there.
raven
@Ruckus: Our addition project has been dead in the water for three months and, now that the survey is done, we are waiting to see if we can get sewer easements for huge line relocation. Meanwhile I took down our back deck and stairs and the yard is mud. Whoo hoo!
Ruckus
@raven:
I seemed to recall that some one else was accepting responsibility for the easement and that you thought things were going forward.
Another roadblock?
ETA Or is my brain set on old?

Apparently, Calming Influence is only at his/her 15th nervous breakdown.
raven
@Ruckus: The city has agreed to relocate. Originally they only thought they’d go through our two lots (we own the house next door) and around one of the houses it runs under. Slope issues and the fact that is runs under another house resulted in the plan being extended nearly three time further. One lady owns the bulk of the impacted properties and she’s in a home. Her son is very nice and Ive kept him informed but tried not to be too pushy. The city asked us to let folks know what was up but they have to do the actual legal part so we are just biding our time and hoping for the best.
raven
@debbie: 19th. . .here it comes, here it comes . . .

It’s peanuts compared to most of the projects people are talking about here, but I started cutting up the dead tree that’s been, er, seasoning in our driveway since it died a couple of years ago. A friend who does lots of barbecuing said he could use it (it’s maple.) I didn’t want it to go to waste, but we don’t use our fireplace any more, and I couldn’t find any friends who do either.
There’s still plenty more to do, since I’m using a saw, and I didn’t want to wake up with a massively sore shoulder tomorrow, but hey, it’s a start.
I also pulled down some wild grape vines that had overgrown our holly bushes. A mockingbird loudly objected to my cutting up his usual perch, and messing with his holly. I tried to explain that there would be more of the berries he likes if it didn’t have vines growing over it, but there was a language barrier.
raven
@Redshift: It all adds up!
Litlebritdifrnt
The rain sodden fruit brought two of my elderberry tree branches down and left the fruit in the dirt. I harvested them all and after they were removed from the stems I have about 10 pounds of fruit to turn into jam tomorrow. Cloud, silver lining and all that.
Redshift
@raven: It does! I still have to deal with a gate to the back yard that no longer opens because it’s been overgrown with various vines, the large dead tree (of a type that FYWP won’t let me name) that’s somewhere under those vines, and the raspberries that took over much of the back yard (again) because I was spending my weekends last year on the presidential campaign instead of doing yard work.
Or more likely, once my financial reserves recover from my recent unemployment, I’ll hire somebody to do all of that. Having a jungle out my back window actually looks quite pretty, but I’d like to have a back yard again.
Josie

It was just one of those songs, there were a zillion. Jet Plane, Green Green Grass, Soldier Boy. But the REAL anthem was “WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE, IF IT’S THE LAST THING WE EVER DOOOOOO!
dance around in your bones
@raven: “Were it worth the trouble?”
See, it’s weird for me, because I listened to all those songs but from the opposite side – the opposed to war and protest side. Plus, being a girl, I didn’t have the ‘getting drafted’ thing that so many of my male friends (including my soon-to-be husband) had to face. Every guy I knew fought hard to avoid going to Vietnam, because – by the late 60’s/early 70’s it was clearly a lost cause.
I remember being with a (one-night) boyfriend and his brother knocked on the bedroom door and handed him his draft notice. His face turned pale. It was just so all-pervasive and awful.
I had a brother-in-law who went to Vietnam and would never talk about it after. I had a male friend who came back a paraplegic and never talked about it.
Ah, I don’t know what I am saying except that war is fucked up and I wish we would stop committing it.
