But if you’re not watching BROADCHURCH on BBC America tonight, well, I don’t even want to know you.

Nice knowing you! ;p
raven
@jeffreyw: Nice.
raven
@jeffreyw: Nice. You missed my dive bombed owl shots.

Has the betting begun on who did it? Hope it wasn’t the vicar.
TaMara (BHF)
Longmire and Broadchurch, two of my favorite shows this summer.
Poopyman
TV sucks and I got lots better to do. Sadly, I’m not doing those other things, I’m reading BJ.
TaMara (BHF)
@jeffreyw: He is a very photogenic owl.
jeffreyw
@raven: I saw them, several times. LOL
jeffreyw
@TaMara (BHF): And territorial, too. He had just chased another raptor out of his yard. He’s still sitting on the same limb.
gogol's wife
@jeffreyw:
the legs are amazing!
Elizabelle
@jeffreyw:
Owl looks so benign.
And then you see those claws. Ouch.
Good photo.

Awww, hell-it’s bad enough I had to rip my 2-channel OTA tuner out of my HTPC to install a HD audiocard capable of 196kHz/24 bit resolution, but it’s not even hooked back up to the cable stream, after I got done ripping it apart and installing a new amp.
Now I’m just waiting for my NOS Mullard 12AX7’s to come in…..
(yes, each of the above’s a separate link….)

Lordy, added without comment, cause I’m sure ya’ll will have better ones than I would! My comment would be much too vulgar and not likely to make it past the filters…lol
Rumsfeld Says Obama Hasn’t Justified Syria Attack

@jeffreyw:
I think that owl looks a lot like Barbara Barrie.

Just ran across this fascinating quote from the US State department:
MikeBoyScout
@lamh36: it’s a grand plan to put The Onion out of business.
jeffreyw
@Elizabelle: He’s a Barred Owl, so you have the alliteration thing going.

Ungated access to FP, for Death Star article, anyone?
gogol's wife
@raven:
And Cassidy showed up on a thread below, as you predicted (although the thread is not about football).

Thread needs moar burgers.

Lovely pics of POTUS/FLOTUS greeting the King family, including Dr King’s granddaughter looking like a cutie patootey in her blue dress.
I do always like how Obama always when speaking to lil kids bends down and get almost eye level with them rather than towering over them like he could.

@lamh36: Obama has justified it. It’s to the north, south, east and west of Damascus.
Don’t fuck with owls. They ain’t kidding.
raven
@gogol’s wife: It was Corner Stone that I said would show for football.
auntie beak
that’s the owl that calls “who cooks for you, who cooks for you all” right? we hear them around our house all the time, sometimes even during the day. wish i could see them, too.
and i don’t get bbc america in hd, so i save broadchurch for later on demand viewing. it’s really worth watching in hd. very moody and atmospheric.
Howard Beale IV
@Elizabelle: They aren’t owls-they’re flying cats with big claws.
Just like parrots aren’t birds-they’re flying bolt-cutters.
Suffern ACE
@lamh36: oh my. This is like those photos of a retired LBJ with longish hair growing out like a hippy.
No nim for this post
Broadchurch,
Seen the whole series, will not spoil, but just watch for the character development, acting, atmosphere,etc. It’s not a great whodunit, or even a whydunit, good series nonetheless.

Oh, yeah-happening live as I type-the 2nd International Internet Cat Video Expo at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. .
Live Stream Here.
MikeJ
@raven:
What do you mean? I watched a cracking Celtic game today.
raven
@MikeJ: I didn’t stutter.
Calliope Jane
@lamh36: I loved watching that and those pictures are great! And on a completely shallow note, I loved the First Lady’s dress. Stunning.
gogol's wife
@raven:
Oh, okay. It was ambiguous, and I concluded you meant Cassidy.

Does anyone else like Rick Yancey’s Monstrumologist books? The *sob* last one, The Final Descent, comes out 10 September . I was hoping Yancey would shop the series around to another publisher, but an interview with him that I read recently sounded as if he had decided to call it a day and move on with something else.
I was really surprised that the series was marketed to teenagers. To my mind, these are heavy-duty grown-up horror.

Just looked at the live stream of #catvidfest …
Looks pretty punk-not a good sign for The Walker, especially since they charged $10/head.
Jane2
I binge-watched Broadchurch…it’s brilliant. Enjoy!
Adolphus
Broadchurch? It looks okay, but I am an American. I can’t relate to a detective who doesn’t have a quirky psychic/author/insane person sidekick to help them solve crimes. Oh wait! It’s a man detective. Sure they can solve crimes without help, but American viewers know women detectives need a non-professional to help them. (It’s why I can’t get into Fallen. Gillian Anderson needs a cockney sidewalk magician to help her solve the murders, or it’s just not realistic)
SiubhanDuinne
@lamh36: I have never seen a pic of this POTUS with little kids that I didn’t love. He is magic with them.
chopper
@Bex:
it was the bishop!
SiubhanDuinne
@Calliope Jane: I just had a conversation with a fellow (female) FLOTUS and FLOTUS-style fan, and we agreed that being superficial and shallow about Michelle’s dresses can sometimes be very deep.
Odie Hugh Manatee
@SiubhanDuinne:
Every time I see pictures of the President with kids it makes me smile. The kids look awestruck, grinning from ear to ear, and the President looks like a nice guy who bends over to be at eye level with them when he talks to them.

@SiubhanDuinne: I have yet to get a coherent explanation from a conservative about why they think she’s fat. I just can’t see it myself. Looks average build to me, but they all insist she’s FAT.

@SiubhanDuinne:
There were some great pix making the rounds last fall of Obama with happy kids and Romtron holding little babies screaming to get away from him. “Kids just know”, they said.
Mnemosyne
The person who pissed me off during a meeting yesterday abjectly apologized today, so that brightened my mood a bit.
(I was so pissed off that I had to leave the room so I didn’t either cry or punch her in the face, so it wasn’t really something I was going to be able to let go without an apology, and she stepped up.)
Cacti
Okay, I’ve seen this today on other left-blogs, and before anyone says it here, “Syrian chemical weapon attacks are okay because Dick Cheney!”
Might be the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard.
Shakezula
What if I don’t have BBC in America on my TV box?
Also, my place of employment made a major acquisition today and I am convinced it will result in me being laid off in the very near future and I’m on a diet so I can’t drink away my sorrows/anxieties/neuroses.
Ah, I’d rather look at owls, anyway.
Odie Hugh Manatee
@Cacti:
Nope, I’ve only seen the ‘We can’t do anything in Syria until we prosecute surviving Reagan administration officials for not doing something about Saddam gassing his people.” comments from the ‘left’.
Mnemosyne
I decided to dance (to this song) in my living room. It terrified Charlotte so much that she’s still hiding under the couch.
Everyone’s a critic.
MomSense
Watching Broadchurch and right now The Doctor is questioning Filch. Are there only 50 actors total in the UK?
Mnemosyne
@MomSense:
Yes, and all of them have played The Doctor at least once.
MomSense
@Mnemosyne:
Just hoping that Rory isn’t the killer. I can’t help it, just love him.
Mnemosyne
@MomSense:
Have you ever seen Hot Fuzz? It’s a murder mystery with a little gore in it, but it’s like a cavalcade of British actors. There’s a scene near the beginning that starts with Martin Freeman as Simon Pegg’s boss then gets topped twice by who plays the boss above Freeman … but only if you’re familiar with British movies and TV.
Plus it’s also a loving parody of “The Avengers” (the good British TV one with Patrick Macnee, not the comic book heroes), so if you love classic British TV, it gets good laughs from those references as well.
NotMax
No BBC America on the affordable cable tier here, so guess I’m forever dead to you.
Mnemosyne
@NotMax:
Netflix streaming? It seems like 99 percent of what’s on BBC America makes it onto Netflix streaming.
MomSense
@Mnemosyne:
Oh I am going to watch that this weekend!! Thanks for the tip. I do love classic Brittish tv.
NotMax
@Mnemosyne
Netflix? It’s not a lot per month, but also just not available in the budget as a recurring cost.
MomSense
@NotMax:
I just recently signed up for the phone program with Comcast (because my cell phone doesn’t work in my own house!!) and for 9.99 got a phone which came with an automatic upgrade to a better cable package. So I changed my cell plan, got a phone that will actually work, got more channels and it costs less.
Mnemosyne
@NotMax:
Streaming-only is pretty cheap — I think it’s under $15 a month — but it requires the recurring cost of high-speed internet, which is a lot more. Your local library has probably been stocking up on the DVDs.
@MomSense:
It is a little gory, just so you know, in a Scream kind of way. I try to warn people of that just in case they have weak stomachs.
NotMax
@MomSense
Don’t have a cell phone. Don’t need a cell phone. Don’t want a cell phone.
But thanks anyway.

It’s kind of sad (to me, anyway), what our almost every week gathering of friends has become.
Ostensibly it is a dinner followed by an RPG session, usually with a dozen (plus or minus another handful) people. The game is really peripheral to the socializing. Or was.
Used to be we would converse in small groups during the game time until someone’s turn came around.
Nowadays, half or more of the people are busily occupied with their phones, or iPads, or even on a laptop they drag up to the gathering while awaiting their turn.
Rekster
I didn’t want to read thru the comments for fear some Tool will spoil Broadchurch! I learned my lesson with Downton Abbey spoilers at the beginning of last season.
I watch The Bridge first (because it’s GREAT) the watch Broadchurch on the DVR. I’m a sucker for Brit Series. So excited for 4 nights of LUTHER next week!!!!
Jay in Oregon
@Bex:
It aired on BBC months ago; I found it online (Doctor Who fan, and it has David Tennant and Arthur Darvill in it, so duh) so I won’t be taking that bet.
To me, Broadchurch isn’t just about the whodunnit; it’s about how the family deals with its grief and loss, and how a small community reacts to the secrets that are unearthed during the investigation.
