Enough of this serious informative shit, let’s talk about the Ravens shitting the bed.

Here is today’s earworm, which has been with me all day:

I love his solo efforts, and always did love Wall of Voodoo, so this is a nice earworm to have.

Welp, I’m off to bed. Night BJ. I know I’ve been harping on the Idris Elba show Luther, but it really is that good. Case in point, tonight’s episode was soo good and so full of suspense. It has been a long time since I yelled at a tv screen or that the ending of an episode mad me damn near cry. Tonight’s episode did that. Damn. I’m telling ya’ll if ya got Netflix, you need to watch Luther season 1 and 2 and then wait for season 3. It is worth it. Tomorrow night’s episode is the last one for at least awhile unless/until they make the Idris movie sometime next year (the writer says he already has the script written, but Idris Elba is kinda busy and if the Nelson Mandela biopic is any good, he’s gonna be even busier!) and then that’s it. Damn you Luther writers.

Alright, found this gif for the ladies and all @idriselba and #Luther lovers! Enjoy and good night!

Had one of those great cultural differences moments today. Mr. Trowel has a bunch of grey coming in on his beard/sideburns and I was trying to be cute and sexy so I told him it gave me ‘hot for teacher’ tingles. Then I had to explain ‘hot for teacher’, Van Halen and American 80s hair rock/metal. Mr. Trowel was in his teens in the 80s, but damn if he seems to have existed entirely in a cocoon of pot smoke, nail polish and goth bands.

No, he had the Pick 6 and dropped the ball a yard or two early in his premature celebration; watching it live, I thought, damn that was close to a fumble, but watching replay, it was clear. Ball went through the end zone for touchback.

@mdblanche: Huh. Something’s going on out there.

I haven’t seen many people writing about the potential influence of Obamacare on the labor market. Job lock is a pretty big phenomena, especially for lower-middle class workers, and more of them should start feeling empowered to leaved jobs. And it seems to be telling even lower-wage workers that (employer mandate) they deserve better treatment and compensation than they’ve been receiving.

I wonder how much of the GOP opposition to Obamacare is simply the recognition that it empowers workers over employers.

This might be better: Stan Ridgway – Mosquitos (1989) – Newspapers (2:42)

But honestly, Stone Temple Pilots – Purple (1994) – Vasoline (2:57) fits my mood better.

    (Note: no spoilers included.)

I (mini-)binge-watched the first two episodes of the new Luther early this evening. Very good. My only minor complaint was in the second episode, where two women had an attack of horror movie “What’s that noise? I’ll go look!” syndrome. Does no one ever think to get out of the house, go to the neighbors’ and, oh, yeah, call the cops on your cell phone while you’re doing that? Jeez.

But, like I said, minor complaint. The visuals are good, the acting is good, the story is good (so far). And Idris Elba does have, uh, charisma. Looking forward to the next two episodes.

And the first two seasons are very good, for people who haven’t seen those.

One player keeper league and I kept Peyton. So disappointed. Much more disappointed that I passed up Demarius Thomas for somebody else (can’t recall but not a slacker so not that disappointed) because I was concerned about losing two key guys on a bye week. I could have won the week outright tonight had I had D. Thomas as well. Will win anyway…have 67 points already and Peyton only guy who played so far.

News from the Golden Chersonese: The Malaysian government has denied US metal band Lamb of God a permit to play a gig here on September 28 — on the grounds that the band has been known to quote the Quran in its song lyrics. Not being a LoG fan, I have no idea if the quotations are out of context or otherwise offensive in themselves, although I do know that the Malaysians who support this kind of ban have no great love for metalheads.

Strange. Stan Ridgway’s Don’t Box Me In was my earworm earlier this week, and I haven’t heard that track in years.

@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):

I want to say yes, since most of the time I obsessively check back on threads until I’m pretty sure they’re dead—i.e., no comments in quite a while or last comment by mclaren—but to be honest I don’t remember which conversation you’re talking about.

ETA: I have to go out for a while, so it may be a while before I get back to this thread. Assuming you have bothered to check back. (And so goes the recursive wheel of life.)

    Stan Ridgway! Great artist.

I often think of “Last Honest Man” or “Mission in Life” when reading this blog.
