FYI, Men’s tennis is on CBS. For those in the Pacific Time Zone, or those who are recording the event, I will only say “great shot”..

Colts. Fuck you, that’s why.
It’s not just Luck.

Screw all that “god” bullshit RG.

America’s Cup was on yesterday. Wow!
I also had a small moment of pleasure when the Colts won.
Given my ‘nym, guess which I found more fascinating.

Pirates are going to be in the playoffs, and you can roll straight from there to NHL season. A perfect year to ignore all the bad football in town (Pitt is likely to suck worse than the Steelers).

Glad to see the league acknowledging that the Packers didn’t get screwed by a blown call, they actually got helped by a blown call on the same play when the Niners’ Joe Staley got flagged for getting his face mask repeatedly in the way of Clay Matthews’ fists.

First Lady Michelle Obama opposes military action in Syria, President Barack Obama told PBS and NBC News on Monday.
“My own family members… they’re very wary and suspicious,” President Obama told PBS.

As a 49er fan I am full of awe. I hope the Iggles take some ‘Skins scalps tonite.

Whoa, Michael.

@JPL:
That Azarenka/Williams match was fucking amazing. Serena scares me through my TV.
Poopyman
@raven: How do we know that’s Michele? The girls are coming of age where they’ll be wary and suspicious of authority.
Poopy, + 1 and typing on a tiny G3.
raven
@Poopyman: Sounds like they all aggin it.
Mr Stagger Lee
So has the Lane Kifflin death-watch started at USC? I think it is against the law in California for USC losing to Washington State. Damn RGIII is having a shit game so far, a fumble now an interception.

@raven: A father in a house full of daughters and a wife is seriously outnumbered, preznit or not.
Mr Stagger Lee
@raven: Great win for the Dawgs there, I guess Richt will be spared until the LSU game.

Murray, Bobo beat .500 team, still looking for elusive big game win.

John, your Mountaineers may be getting some indirect taint:
“The Oklahoman reported, citing an unidentified source, on Saturday that former assistant coach Joe DeForest is accused in the story of running a bonus program, paying players for big plays as recently as 2011. DeForest now works as an assistant coach at West Virginia for head coach Dana Holgorsen, who is a former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.”
Okie St looks to be headed for a fall, and Holgorsen will probably be found to have played some role.
Meanwhile, we’re enjoying RichRod here at the U of A.

Have to watch Djokovic-Nadal final…they always play epic matches. Football can wait.

Boy what a clown show.

@Irony Abounds: indirect taint is better than. . .oh, never mind.

@Mr Stagger Lee: I think U$C last lost at home to Wazu in 2000, but that was before Cheaty Petey came to town.

@BillinGlendaleCA: What a shame. it’s only a matter of time till they realize what a fucking moron they hired.

Typical Georgia fan.

Philly runs 30 plays and only leads by 5? That ain’t good. The Skins may have F’ed up the 1st quarter, but the iggles are leaving them with plenty of opportunity in the next 3 quarters.

@Poopyman: Of course, Washington has to actually DO something to catch up.
They don’t look like they can.

Dunno if this was posted already, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Gun Jesus is about to have a shit-ton of his followers deny they ever knew him…
Mr Stagger Lee
@BillinGlendaleCA: LOL Cheaty Petey, well if they can little Lane, they could hire the Sweater Vest, that guy of Christian Integrity, Jim Tressel of the OSU Tattoo-gate scandal.

@Poopyman: Oh well God is in charge of the fucking game. Just ask RG.

God doesn’t care who wins. He just wants to cover the spread.

This is no longer an NFL thread. I’ve turned off the TV.
Hill Dweller
@JPL: The doper wins. Good times.
PsiFighter37
@Hill Dweller: I’ve heard this rumor – why do people think Nadal is a doper?
On another note, Novak blew the 3rd set and never got his head back in the game. If he bothered to keep the intensity up at all times, he’s definitely superior to Nadal…but he just seems like he gets bored during the match and phones it in at certain times.
Hill Dweller
@PsiFighter37:
That rumor has dogged him since he came on Tour. He was purportedly one of the names on the client list of the doctor at the center of the huge Operation Puerto doping scandal. The judge for said doctor’s trial in Spain just ordered the 200 bags of blood and plasma destroyed. So, we’ll never know.
Also too, watch him play. In ’09, after playing a nearly 5 hour semi against Verdasco(another rumored doper), he beat a rested Federer in the Aussie Open final by wearing him down physically in the 5th set.
This year is a great example of Nadal’s miraculous jump in level. He hadn’t won a hard court title in 2+ years coming into this season, but he’s now undefeated on hard courts this season. Something far better hard court players never accomplished. Granted, the glacially slow courts and balls certainly help a clay courter like Nadal, but he is still an inferior hard court player to several other guys on Tour.
PsiFighter37
@Hill Dweller: To be fair, the other Top 4 guys outside of Federer (Djokovic and Murray) are also great at recovering from long matches as well. Fed was great, but he never was anywhere close to the kind of shape that these 3 are in – they’re all physical specimens who can grind away for hours.
gene108
I’m beginning to think RGIII really hurt his long term career prospects by not sitting last year, when his knee started to go.
He’s not the same player anymore.
Sibelius
@Poopyman: Tell me about it. Lori (wife) Madison, (6) Natalie (5).

If it’s any consolation, Cole, I’m worried about my Pats for the first time in like 12 years. That is one no-name lineup they have on offense. It’s also too white.
Liquid
The Steelers present condition = Karma, motherfucker! For Super Bowl 40! Never Forget!
Hill Dweller
@PsiFighter37: Actually, Djokovic used to wilt in any sort of heat, but after “cutting out gluten” he also became an energizer bunny. Murray tends to fade in long matches.
No one has ever done what Nadal does. Keep in mind, we’ve been told he’s had knee issues for the better part of the last decade. Degenerative knee issues demand less training, not more. But he always seems to be fitter than anyone on Tour.
If there is doping in tennis(very likely), it’s the fault of rocket scientists running the sport. They decided in the last 5/6 years to homogenize the Tour, and force the players to endure clay court points year round. It’s become a war of attrition, as opposed to a game of skill. Tactics have gone out the window.
Honus
@burnspbesq: Burns, please stop. I’m diehard Bucs fan, and last year in late August you predicted there was no way they could finish below .500.

This is just too good, especially the last line:
LAKE MARY, Fla. (AP) – The sobbing wife of George Zimmerman called 911 Monday to report that her estranged husband was threatening her with a gun and had punched her father in the nose, but hours later decided not to press charges against the man acquitted of all charges for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.
Lake Mary police officers were still investigating the encounter as a domestic dispute, but no charges had been filed Monday afternoon. Shellie Zimmerman left the house after being questioned by police. George Zimmerman remained there into early evening and his attorney denied any wrongdoing by his client. He was not arrested.

Whew-eee, sounds like RG3 is having a monster game. 99 yds and a couple of picks. Bet Cam Newton’s laughing his ass off about this one.

@efgoldman:
Belichik never won without Tom Brady. Period.
He’s only had one winning season, without Tom Brady starting at QB (and that was when he coached Cleveland).
Edit: The one winning season in Cleveland was his only winning season in Cleveland. I think Tom Brady can make any coach look good.
Keith P
@gene108: C’mon, Rex Ryan would have Tom Brady fetching Mark Sanchez’ Gatorade if he coached him.
Geoduck
Washington is the one NFL team I actively dislike, and it’s solely because of their stupid offensive name. So, go Eagles. I guess as a Seahawk fan I’m supposed to hate the 49ers or something, but somehow it’s just not the same as the ol’ AFC West days, when a person could hate the Elway-led Broncos with clean fiery passion.
And it is my sad prediction that Zimmerman will end up shooting someone else before this is over, or get shot himself.
Fluke bucket
Is this a case of the Eagles being that good or the Redskins being that shitty?
MoeLarryAndJesus
@gene108: You’re a bit of an idiot.
The 2008 Patriots went 11-5 with Matt Cassell as their QB.
I don’t know which shitty Patriots-hating fanbase you belong to, but you know nothing about football.
Redshirt
@efgoldman: I’m not really worried, like you, but concerned in far more abstract sense: Sports allegiance. This is the most no name offense in a decade. Maybe it will work out, or maybe it won’t, and not even Tom Brady can save us this time.
I’ll note for the record Belichik has never won a Superbowl without Romeo Crennell and Charlie Weiss, his then long time assistants. I posit these two familiar coaches absence has made the difference in the Patriots Superbowl woes. Oh, what could have been…
gene108
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
My bad, two winning season without Brady as his QB. You don’t believe me?
Bill’s record as a coach here. His first year with the Pats Bledsoe was his QB. In 2001 Bledsoe gets injured and Brady steps in.
He sucked as a coach, while at Cleveland.
He sucked his first year in New England, with Bledsoe under center. He was 0-2, in 2001, before Bledsoe went down.
It’s always hard to separate how good a coach is versus how much talent he has on a roster, but to think Brady isn’t responsible for most Belichick’s success in New England just ignores his lack luster results without Brady in New England and Cleveland.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@gene108: Hey, stupid, he’s only had four seasons as a head coach without Brady.
In one of them he made the playoffs with the CLEVELAND BROWNS.
In another he went 11-5 with MATT CASSELL as his QB.
You have no point. You’re a baboon with a stick up your ass, representing your Belichick hate.
Please tell me how much winning ANY great coach has done without a good QB.
Again, you know nothing about football. And it’s hilarious that you won’t admit which termite-ridden franchise you suckle on.
MoeLarryAndJesus
efgoldman says:
In fact there were NOT “lots of players” left from the Parcells days on the 2nd and 3rd SB winners, but why let facts get in the way of a good Belichick-hate session?
Will Parcells worshippers admit that the Tuna never won without Belichick on his staff? Which coach owns more Super Bowl rings, Parcells or Belichick?
Only a moron who thinks footballs are round could conclude that the Tuna was a better coach than BB.
gene108
@efgoldman:
Yes but there have been plenty of good defensive coordinators, who do not make it as head coaches because they do not have a reliable offense.
Brady gave Belichick the elite QB, almost every other team in the league wishes they had and thus an offense that could go along with a good defense.
Bledsoe, McNabb and many other QB’s are very good, but they have some throws they just can’t make. That’s not the case with Brady, he can make any throw accurately and that is rare. Hell, I’d even throw Favre into the fatally flawed QB category, because he’s prone to turn overs.
MoeLarryAndJesus
It’s also hilarious that efgoldman seems to think BB succeeded the Tuna as Patriots coach. I guess he forgot about Pete Carroll.
Heliopause
@Z:
No. There is a fundamental difference between missing a call and not knowing the rules. In one case the refs missed the call, which happens a dozen times or more every game. In the other they didn’t know the rules. The latter is completely inexcusable.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@gene108: Any longtime Patriots fan knows that Belichick helped Brady grow into the QB he is today.
In 2001 Brady wasn’t BRADY, get it? His role has grown as time has gone on. The coach-QB partnership hasn’t been an accident.
gene108
@MoeLarryAndJesus:
Wrong.
Seven seasons without Brady. 5 in Cleveland, first year in New England and the year with Castle. He had 2 winning seasons out of those seven.
Trent Dilfer won a Superbowl, so did Jim McMahon and Jeff Hostetler, along with the post-Joe Theisman journeyman QB’s Joe Gibbs won with, at Washington.
In the modern NFL it’ll probably be really hard, because defense has been devalued by the recent rules changes and it has become a passing league, but teams have won without elite QB’s in the past.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@efgoldman: Belichick hasn’t been the best drafter, but it’s not like Parcells was, either.
No one knows what Belichick would have done without Brady, any more than anyone knows what Parcells would have done without LT and Belichick.
BB’s piss-poor drafting has somehow led to an endless stream of 10+ win seasons. Please tell me what Parcells ever did worth a damn after leaving the Giants and why he’s supposed to be the better judge of anything.
Irony Abounds
@MoeLarryAndJesus: I don’t care if Belechick is the best coach in the world, he’s a cheater and most of all, a DICK.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@gene108: So now Ditka and Billick are better coaches than Belichick?
Is that really your standard?
And why are you too ashamed to admit which Patriots-hating also-ran franchise you lay down with?
Corner Stone
RGIII is going to need a new right heel placed on his shoe. Because every pass he’s attempted tonight has been off his back heel.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Irony Abounds: He says your momma is a whore. So I guess he’s shown you, huh?
Corner Stone
@efgoldman:
Say what now?
Corner Stone
RGIII will be running camps with Vince Young next off season.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Corner Stone: Parcells wouldn’t have gone with Brady over Bledsoe in a million years.
ef is just whistling in the wind.
Want proof? Parcells got Bledsoe for the Cowboys during that abortion of a reign.
Corner Stone
Have a seat dumass.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Corner Stone: RG3 should be paying attention to Vick. He’s looking at his miserable future if he keeps this “running QB” crap up.
Corner Stone
@MoeLarryAndJesus: Vick is faster, quicker, has a stronger arm – and still gets his crotch hurt trying to get a few extra yards.
I don’t have the stats in front of me but I’d bet Vick also outweighs RG.
That was awful, awful….awful DB play by the Iggles. Just awful.
Corner Stone
What is wrong with ESPN’s coverage of Texans @ Chargers? Berman and Dilfer sound like they are in a van somewhere in FL SAC command calling in play by play strikes.
This is fucking awful commentary, and I happen to dig Dilfer on analysis in the studio.

Having built (with my own two hands, and the hands of many friends) a winter vacation home in way SE Arizona, imagine my dismay to see RichRod’s nasty face on billboards all over the state.
I was glad to see the bastid gone to Michigan, where he failed properly.
Why would any successful college program hire a dishonest and incompetent bastgid like RichRod?
Why do I still have to see his face and hear his “coaching” discussed by so-called experts in teh NCAA football sport?????
Corner Stone
Chris Berman must be on Quaaludes. He is awful.
Corner Stone
If Berman were any *less* enthused by that Texans TD I’d call him clinically dead.
MoeLarryAndJesus
Vick’s 2 inches shorter and 2 pounds lighter. Either way their shared approach is not a recipe for a healthy or successful career.
MoeLarryAndJesus
@Corner Stone: Yeah, Berman is the worst play-by-play guy on Earth right now. Why is he even bothering to do this job these days?
