Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Everybody saw this coming.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

In after Baud. Damn.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Wow, did the Seahawks get hosed there by the jackass in the stands with a whistle, but they just got a touch of justice picking off the SF QB whose name I can not spell.

I’ve only been to one pro game and they didn’t give out hoses. But they gave some sort of award to Don Shula at the end.

Open Thread? OK good. This is not a spoiler – it is a guess. So Hank and Gomez are dead. The Nazi’s and Walt and Jessie will bury them in the desert. And the Nazi’s will kidnap Walt and Jessie and make then cook.

Talking about spoilers: does anyone know when Sherlock Series 3 is going to be aired in the UK? Cuz my friend Bob put an ear worm in my ear tonight – he said “Hey Helen why don’t you just go to London to watch it “Live”‘

    Good question, why don’t I?

I had no idea chicory tasted so good. I just made a stew which basically turned out to be chicory stew, and the broth tastes good. I had never bought chicory before but decided to try some. Supplemented with a two small cans of beans (chickpeas, soy beans) and a small amount of orzo, and chopped up some mint which has made the place smell nice. A small discovery for future reference. The Tampa Bay Bucs are coached by an inept coach unable to discipline players for on-field screw-ups (notably failing to coach players on how to tackle without head-butting), leading to unwanted penalties and losing games. Also terrible clock management and an overly conservative gameplan once the team gets a 2-point lead. The problems with Freeman at QB are minor compared to the f-ckup that is Schiano.

My issue isn’t with the read-option; it’s with the god-like status that RG3 and Kaepernick received for running it. They both did well, but I think they should really have multiple seasons like that under their belts before having specials run about them and a constant stream of feature articles in the offseason. With Newton, the big talk of the 2nd season was whether or not he goes through a sophomore slump (he did); with RG3, even when he loses, there’s an article saying “his legend grows”.

    @YellowJournalism:

The upside is that Breaking Bad is almost spoiler proof. And by that I mean that the spoilers you’d get wouldn’t really detract from the show. The show is about the how more than the what. The show foreshadows alot and tends to play things out to their narrative conclusion so the plot never really comes at you sideways. The suspense and tension is mostly built on a morbid certainty instead of unpredictability.

But that’s not to say there isn’t any genuinely shocking moments in Breaking Bad. I would hate to have known what happened in the Season 4 opener before I saw it. So I definitely wouldn’t seek out spoilers. I’m just saying that the world won’t end if you know what happens, so don’t be too afraid to hang out with those of us that have seen the show.
