Good football today. Liverpool looks like they’re for real. Galaxy need a result in Portland.

Also: Does anyone know what Lane Kiffin’s buy-out clause is on his contract? I am way too happy he was fired and need a dose of reality.

@Adolphus: “Kiffin had been fired in 2009 or 2010, the school would have to pay him $7.5 million under a buyout clause; after the 2012 season, the buyout clause decreased to $5 million.”

No, there are no good football songs. Not that I can think of, anyway.
And I hate to say it, but I’m really not interested in football today. The Stillers suck. I’ll keep up with the game but probably won’t watch much. The baseball game means nothing today (but excited for post-season play at PNC Park!). I know the NHL season is about to start. Pitt looked pretty good yesterday and the college basketball season is starting soon, too, so no matter how badly the Stillers shit the bed this season, I have sports to look forward to.

Has Cole abandoned the blog?
Is his almost complete absence of late part of a careful plan to…something something?
Anyone know?

Damn, the Texans can be maddening. They have nailbiters against teams they should destroy, get blown out by teams that they should compete against, and then they manhandle one of the best teams in the league in the Seahawks (and I’ve got a sickening suspicion that they’re going to blow the lead in the 2nd half).

Hannibal Suarez came good just when Liverpool needed him. Now, he needs to keep his teeth to himself for the rest of the season, and the club needs to get through this rash of injuries that has broken out in the early art of the season.

@Ted & Hellen: He still posts in short bursts, like 3-4 posts in a row, then disappears. He was burnt out last I read. Also, there was that whole thing he wrote about going into recovery, which I hope he does and sticks with, and that might be taking up his time and energy (and best of luck to him too). I suspect that the healthier he gets physically/mentally/emotionally, the less angry he’ll be, and thus the less he’ll post here. I notice the happier I am, the less attention I pay to politics. The more miserable and sick I feel, the more closely I obsess over this stuff. It’s almost a perfect correlation for me. Maybe for others too?
PsiFighter37
Half-watching the Giants not sucking as bad as they have recently vs. the Chiefs…although their kicker just pulled a field goal at the end of the half wide left.
Waiting for the Jets at the 4 PM game…if they can beat the Titans, we’d be 3-1…pretty surprising considering that I was quite certain we’d be losing games handily this year. And we threw away plenty of chances to take one off the Patriots.
Also, too, fuck David Gregory for not being able to call Ted Cruz out for not comparing Obamacare to Nazi Germany. What a fucking worthless tool he is.

@Amir Khalid: I’m watching Glasgow Rangers at the moment with some interest. They’re in a “take no prisoners” mood as they grind their way back into the Scottish Premier league. They’re seven games into the season with seven wins, 21 points, they’re averaging more than four goals a game. If they can only stay ahead of the creditors and sort out their management they could have the League One title done and dusted by January at this rate.

John fell off the wagon two days ago and spent the weekend binge drinking. This morning he woke up with his head glued to the carpet in what appeared to be a vodka-infused nacho cheese sauce. One of his buddies cleaned him up and took him to church and John accepted The Lord Jesus Christ into his heart as his Personal Savior and Redeemer. John hasn’t had time to think about what he’s going to do with the blog but I wouldn’t be surprised if he sells it to DougJ and then starts an online church for shut-ins with too many pets.

I’ve been unable to stop watching the game long enough to post, but Oh. My. God. what a comeback. Seahawks win on a FG in OT. First OT win in Seahawk history. Amazing, amazing game.

Boy, do I have the Texans figured out!
Geoduck
@CaseyL: And they’re 4-0 for the first time in history, evidently. Woot!

CaseyL
@Keith P.: Your pain is my gain. Sorry, Keith. (Seriously: I know how I’d feel if it went the other way.)
Keith P.
@CaseyL: Doesn’t bother me much. I’m purely a fairweather Houston fan, as I suffered enough during the Oilers days to where I’m not going to live and die by believing in Choke City. Until the Texans get the balls to finally get rid of Kubiak, I refuse to feel pain when they suck because they ask for it.
Heliopause
@CaseyL: @Keith P.:
I have to say that this could be the biggest regular season win in Seahawk history. They were simply manhandled for three quarters and still won. On the road against a pretty good team. With backups at most of the offensive line positions.
raven
@Heliopause: Yea, that scumbag sure can coach.
CaseyL
@Heliopause: Agreed on so many counts. They didn’t fold. I’m so used to Seattle not being able to fight back, esp. from that kind of deficit.
But Wilson really needs to work on a quick release.

They weirdly own the fourth quarter–something that began last season. Gonna need a lot better consistency against Indy next week, but I’m sure they’ll take this one.
Nothing makes me happier than when “my” game is in OT and they cut away to show the Raiders. Ironic, because I can’t recall Oakland’s last home sellout. Normally they’re blacked out here, which is a mercy killing anyway you look at it.

Watching the clusterfuck of the Titans-Jets halftime show. They’ve got *five* analysts doing the halftime report, and while one guy tries to narrate plays from other games, you’ve got one or two other guys talking over him…stuff like “Oooooh, AP takin’ it to the hole!’ mixed in with “Adrian Peterson goes 65 yards for the score”. It sounds like another station is bleeding over into it. Someone get this station a producer who can tell these guys when to talk and when to listen.
