Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

We will not go back.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

The revolution will be supervised.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Giving up is unforgivable.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

In these bleak times, here’s something funny

Fox News correspondent Ed Henry walked out of a White House press briefing after being repeatedly ignored by spokesman Jay Carney on Friday.

So now the conservatives in the House are rallying around the Palin/Cruz delusion rally. Say they have a good position going in to next week. The god of stupidity is obviously dead.

Petulant and unprofessional conduct. If you leave the press briefing, you don’t get that story; the only justification for leaving is to get a more worthwhile story. Ed Henry’s one of the big kids. He ought to know this.

So now the conservatives in the House are rallying around the Palin/Cruz delusion rally. Say they have a good position going in to next week. The god of stupidity is obviously dead.

I was following this on Twitter: Palin and Cruz joined a RW rally at one of the closed memorial sites. Apparently the rally was flying a Confederate flag. The image is being bounced around between wingnuts to bolster their resolve, and seems to be achieving that end.

There are so many things wrong with this, it’s hard to know where to start. But if the GOP in the House and Senate decide this means they can and should dig in their heels, I believe they’re in for an unpleasant surprise.

ETA: Wait; I think the Confederate flags were being shown at a rally in front of the White House. I’m not sure which one Palin and Cruz were at; not sure if even they’re delusional enough to be photographed standing near a Confederate flag.

    @CaseyL:

I saw that picture. Confederate flag outside of the White House, next to a Marine flag. There is ALL KINDS of wrong with that, and that doesn’t even touch on the racial implications.

If the R’s want to rally around the traitor flag, well fuck them.

There is a photo on Huffington of a paraplegic vet, on a Segway, helping to remove one of the barriers. I hope he realizes that if the shutdown continues his VA benefits will stop and the WWII memorial being closed will be the least of his worries.

I guess if he should fall and hurt himself during the protest he will sue the government for negligence.

Even the bananas in a 3rd rate republic would not want to be associated with the US today.

@Baud: OK, I was at least half kidding when I made that crack. Then I went to the CNN story, via LGF, and here’s the first sentence:

Angered by the closure of national landmarks due to the partial government shutdown, a crowd of conservatives removed barricades Sunday at the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial as they rallied against President Barack Obama and Democrats for their role in the ongoing stalemate.

    Bold mine.

One of the things that has been really bothering me about this whole shit show is Peters Corollary on full display.

It’s like a big ass neon sign proclaiming ‘We’re so incompetant and still in power!!!’ and it’s fueled by racist energy and cords of hate.

So much that is wrong with the way we still do business and interact and how little we’ve progressed past outmoded models is laid bare right now. Everything feels backwards and wrong right now.

We have so much talent and progressive intent in this country that is going to waste while the country clubbers and the country-clubbers try their level best to hide their inadequacies at the worlds expense.

And confederate flags at the WH to punctuate this diseaese. Mercy.

@Amir Khalid: Since, according to the CNN story, some of the barriers they carried to the WH were from the Lincoln Memorial, there must have been.

Absolutely shocking that when you close down the government….places like memorials that are run by the government will be shut down. Guess that’s too much for their tiny minds.
And when this little protest is over and they leave for a mutual-congratulation party, some poor DC parks ranger, probably unpaid, will have to come out and put them all up again.
