Whew. I don’t know what it is about Bemidji but they consistently give us fits far beyond what the standings indicate they should. They played great, we played poorly (particularly on defense; Garzone, Ramsey and Wolfe struggled badly) and Hannah Brandt came up with two goals and an assist to push us to our 57th straight win.
Next week we continue the tour of outstate Minnesota with the Purple Cows of Mankato.
We had some friends who came home to an entirely shredded living room but I think they left the dog out of the crate so they could replace some well loved furniture.
Went to a family reunion in Central Virginia and the gentleman that did the Brunswick Stew (chicken only) really knew his stuff! A huge cast iron pot with a motorized stirring mechanism. A rare October day without football and now to unwind in the hotel looking straight yp at Liberty U!

You betcha. Really good black-and-white photography, not too cheesy plot. Psychomania (1971) is probably a clunker, but The Witches (1966) might be good.
@Cassidy: I was once given this advice on learning to appreciate scotch: Buy a good bottle. Sit down and pour some in a glass. Drink it. Wince. Pour and drink some more. Wince. Repeat until you discover that you kind of like the taste – usually about 1/3 of the way through the bottle.

The Kirkland brand French vodka at Costco is as good, or better, than Grey Goose. Much less costly, but comes in the most user-unfriendly bottle ever.

Omnes Omnibus
@NotMax: I am not a vodka guy. I only got that bottle because it was a gift. Gin, I like gin – standard Bombay, unless it is for a martini and then Sapphire is worth it.
Tanqueray when I can afford it. Bols when really flush, budget-wise.
Otherwise, good ol’ reliable Beefeater* suits this codger just fine for martinis (and perfect for G&Ts**).
But the vermouth in the martinimust be Noilly Prat. No other will do.
Tried a bottle of Bombay once when it first appeared on the shelves, and was not impressed. No taste improvement commensurate with the price difference, IMHO.
*Back in college, was most fond of filling a 12-ounce glass with ice, pouring straight Beefeater to the top, and drinking it that way, perhaps with a wedge of lime.
** But the tonic must be Schweppes. No other will do.
131.
Omnes Omnibus
@NotMax: I really like the flavor of the standard Bombay. Sounds like plate differences.
Single malt guy myself (Highland Park neat), but mrs. handsmile is a real commonsewer of bourbon and her choices, in order, are: Bookers, Bulliet (NotMax’s choice above as well), Knob Creek or Basil Hayden. Assume you’re drinking it neat. For a bourbon mixed drink, a perfectly good choice is Makers Mark.
@tybee:
It is rare to find another who appreciates Dickel. That is some smooth drinking juice. Has to be the #12 though. If I was still drinking that would be the only thing. Was introduced to it by an ex, and I still like it. Hard to find out on the left coast but sure worth it.
old No 12 is good stuff but i’ve also drunk a boat load of numba 8
good stuff.
I also appreciate Bushmills, Jamesons, Makers Mark, the aforementioned Knobcreek and have been known to swill other swill as well but dickel is schizznit.
interesting whiskey data: my FIL used to drink jack daniels. a right smart amount of jack, too. someone gave him a bottle of Early Times. he said he liked it as much as he did the jack.
after a bit of research, he found that Early Times is basically jack daniels aged in a used barrel. to be “bourbon”, the barrel must be new so Early Times is sold domestically as “Kentucky Whiskey” and exported as “bourbon”.
I keep a bottle around for those who don’t appreciate good whisky (dickel) and to use in mixed drinks.

Omnes Omnibus
@Dolly Llama: And I watch very little college ball. Maybe someone else knows.
Yatsuno
@Cassidy:
Not for a birfday gift.
Omnes Omnibus
@Yatsuno: I am a Francophile and French vodka seemed odd. But then my uncle bought me a bottle of Grey Goose.
Cassidy
@Yatsuno: Mine is in August but I’ll take an early present.
Omnes Omnibus
@Cassidy: Are you another fucking Leo?
Steeplejack
@Corner Stone:
So glad you learned a new word tonight. Maybe someday you’ll also learn the actual definition.
I am disconsolate about the game, but Mizzou is still in the driver’s seat to face Alabama in the SEC title game.
Cassidy
@Omnes Omnibus: Yes. Right smack in the middle.
Omnes Omnibus
@Cassidy: Aug 3 (along with SiobhanDunne).

Corner Stone
@Steeplejack: It’s a perfectly cromulent word.

Omnes Omnibus
@NotMax: I really like the flavor of the standard Bombay. Sounds like plate differences.

@Omnes Omnibus
Nuthin’ wrong with that. As an acquaintance was wont to say, “Takes all kinds to make a horse race.”
If you ever get hold of a bottle of Bols, though (Dutch gin in an earthenware bottle; the gin itself is pale blue), give it a sample.
Omnes Omnibus
@NotMax: I have had Bols in Amsterdam.
handsmile
@Cassidy:
Slainte!

@Omnes Omnibus
Color me jealous.
Ruckus
@tybee:
It is rare to find another who appreciates Dickel. That is some smooth drinking juice. Has to be the #12 though. If I was still drinking that would be the only thing. Was introduced to it by an ex, and I still like it. Hard to find out on the left coast but sure worth it.
tybee
@Ruckus:
old No 12 is good stuff but i’ve also drunk a boat load of numba 8
