The Greenwald link still goes to Salon.
muricafukyea
Yea I got a tip. How about getting rid of that annoying newsmax newsfeed or paid ad or whatever the fuck on the top right. WTF is that doing there anyways? I don’t care how much they pay you. I certainly don’t give a flying fuck what the BS ultra right winger sites are spewing for headlines.

“Get off my tip.” Thank you, I will use it.
Thanks for the site, too.

Ah, good. Everything is right with the blogroll, then.

Well, the one that says “Glenn Greenwald” appears to exist still. :P

Not a dead link, but you should add a couple, Krugman and Charles Pierce specifically.

Well you need to add ME of course, but also Gary Farber’s Amygdala hasn’t posted since January 1 at that link, Incertus hasn’t posted since 2010 and I think Kung Fu Monkey is on permanent hiatus.
But also, you really need to add me.
magurakurin
@muricafukyea: here’s an idea. Since the advertiser pays by the click, why don’t you just pour yourself a cup of joe, sit back, and click the living shit out of that link and have it charged to the ad you hate and the greenbacks sent to Cole….Or…you could just have a nice big cup of shut the fuck up.
but I mean that in a nice way.

Well I had three suggestions but apparently I’m stuck in moderation for some reason I can’t discern. Let’s see, basically, add Southern Beale (ahem), and I don’t think Amygdala posts at that link anymore, Incertus is not blogging any more and Kung Fu Monkey is on permanent hiatus.
Let’s see if that gets caught by the spam police, without the links ….

As the link to Nate Silver was not updated for the entirety of the years he spent blogging at NYT, surprised* when any link in the blogroll is altered.

Not so much a dead link but I feel you should add Charlie Pierce and Roger Ailes(not that Roger Ailes)

@Jeff Spender: It’s based around Obama’s “If you like your insurance, you can keep it” line. Not entirely true, since, if your plan doesn’t meet ACA standards, it must either upgrade or go away. Most of these cheap plans are going away, hence, the article.
jl
@Jeff Spender: The article is about very little. Read down to the bit about if insurance companies changed the grandfathered policies after the law was signed, they no longer qualified for grandfathering. But people churn through those crummy plans, so… the insurance companies just haaad to change them… whatever.
I’d go look for Mayhew’s the ghost Obama made me do it post, for more details, IMHO. (Edit: I think it was last week)
The argument of that article rests on ‘insinuation’, and says so itself.
Edit: for Cole, no Mayhew contact info. Maybe he doesn’t want any. But thought I would mention it.

Don’t know why, but recently got a bit curious about what kind of crazy was going on with the wingularity. I usually would just check Hewitt’s site to see what the “unofficial” talking points were. But decided to go to Redstate and check in on Malkin. I am in utter shock by how crazy stuff seems over there. I mean, if a writer from West Wing were to create characters based on these folks the showrunner would just say “um, that’s just not believable.” Right?

MattR
@Jeff Spender: Generally speaking, there is truth that millions of people will have to change plans due to their old plan not meeting the minimum standards set by the ACA. But at the same time many insurance companies are taking advantage of the law, either to end unprofitable plans and say “Obamacare made us do it” or to try and push people into more expensive, profitable replacement plans. Most of the articles don’t discuss exactly what was (and more importantly wasn’t) covered under these old plans compared with the minimum requirements of Obamacare and the free preventive care included with any plan bought on the exchange. (For example, Mediate reports that one woman who was featured on a CBS report had a policy that paid out a maximum of $50 for any procedure or doctor visit and did not cover inpatient hospitalization at all) And while some people earn too much to qualify for subsidies, many of the people who do qualify are complaining before checking to see how much of the premium the gov’t is willing to pay for. I think that is exactly why they made the decision to force complete registration on the website including income verification before you can see the costs of the plan. IMO, they could have done a better job of allowing people to get an estimated subsidy without registering while making it clear that it was just an estimate, but I can understand why they decided that showing people the full price upfront would scare away a lot of people who would not be asked to pay anything close to that full price.

Anne Laurie
I personally sent you a list back in mid-May:
American News Project seems to be defunct.
August J. Pollack is “under reconstruction”.
Fifth Column “has been deleted by the authors”.
Focal Point hasn’t been updated “for over one year”.
Glenn Greenwald left Salon last August.
Greg Sargent’s link (he’s got his own WaPo ‘blog’, Plum Line) is crufted.
Incertus hasn’t been updated since 2010.
Nature Newsblog is “404 Not Found”.
Ned Ragget has officially switched to Tumblr.
Orcinus moved to Alternet (over a year ago ).
Pandagon’s link is borked.
Pat Lang probably *should* be moved to the “Monitor & Mock” section — if only to keep Raven from stroking out. He’s gone fullbore NRA-ngry.
Pufferfish hasn’t been updated since 2010.
The County Fair goes to the Media Matters main page?
The Daily Howler moved site in Sept 2011.
Newshoggers hasn’t been updated since Sept 2012 (and that’s a breaking-news site, not an opinion home).
Panda’s Thumb has dropped its “The”.
Politburodiktat “has been removed”.
The Street has a “fatal error”.
Blogs that should be added (IMO):
*Charlie Pierce – http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/
Paul Constant – http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/paul-constant/Author?oid=17693§ion=Blogs
Blue Mass Group – http://bluemassgroup.com/
The Dogs of San Francisco – http://dogsofsf.com/ (occasional BJ commentor), also: puppy pics!)
For the haterz: Yeah, I was trying to convince people here they should check out Pierce on a regular basis. You don’t like him, your loss.

@MattR: ” IMO, they could have done a better job of allowing people to get an estimated subsidy without registering while making it clear that it was just an estimate,”
Since all that would need is a simple table: Find your income, match it to the subsidy for that income.
Or enter you expected income=> out pops subsidy. is it state dependent?
Now subtract subsidy from insurance policy premium. Extremely subtle and complicated.
muricafukyea
@magurakurin: You are free to sit there and click on their ads if it makes you feel better. Of course it’s not quite that simple and chances are only your first click would pay anything but you wouldn’t understand. Feel free to waste your life with your pointless pursuits and your idiotic ideas.

Hey everyone, Tbogg just posted about a Connor Frierwhatshisname column that is simply bound to go to at least one Tbogg unit; go join in the fun!
MattR
@catclub: After clicking on the link Martin provided, I learned that subsidies vary by age and location in addition to income level. If I read this all correctly, they determine the max % of your income you will have to spend on premiums based on your income. Then they determine the average (?) cost you would have to pay for a silver plan. Your subsidy is the difference between those. If you choose to upgrade or downgrade to a different level, the subsidy does not change. I am not sure if the subsidy will cover the cost between the premiums of any silver plan you choose and the max % of income or if it is based on an average of all silver plans or if that average is only used when up/downgrading to a plan at a different level.
It is not simple, but it is also not ridiculously complex. I would think the decision not to include an estimate was made based on concerns that inaccurate estimates (or estimates based on inaccurate information) would cause confusion rather than on the difficulty in calculating an estimate based on a couple of criteria.
From a media perspective it seems like the max % of income would be simplest way to explain how much plans will cost in the exchanges. But that would ruin the story.

So 2004.
I’m working on a musical – BLOGROLL! It’s about a band of chipper, young, liberal, interweb savvy types, who have their political hopes and dreams crushed by being repeatedly thrown under the bus. THANKS OBAMA!
Also, I love that Armando posts only open threads with football picks over at talkleft. Some might say he has given up, or is at odds with Jeralyn’s mission statement, but I say keep on chasing that dream of an offshore, online betting empire! (P.S. take the Packers and the points next week.)

I suspect that Redshift above (#51) may be precisely right about the proprietor’s attitude toward this thread, but to add to the earnest futility:
TomDispatch.com is the single best aggregator of actual Progressive opinion (not the phantasms, e.g., “emoprogs,” “Professional Left,” often invoked by some commenters here). Among the authors one regularly finds there are Andrew Bacevich, Mark Danner, Barbara Ehrenreich, Chris Hedges, and Rebecca Solnit. Agree with their opinions or not, this is what constitutes contemporary Left perspective in this country.
http://www.tomdispatch.com/
As for the current “Blogroll,” I’m surprised that Matt Yglesias does not appear among the “Blogs We Monitor and Mock…” In the several years that I’ve participated here, I cannot recall a single instance when his opinion has not been pilloried. In fact, his post on barbers (iirc) has become a kind of infamous legend.

Blogged daily for nearly a decade (lost some early blogs when the hosts went belly up without notice), but very rarely over the past several years. Also guest blogged at another place which is no more and has been taken down.
However, should you have any interest in going through what is there, my little tiny corner of the blogosphere is here.
(As many of the links in my old posts are, well, old, they may or may not any longer be active links. Also has been some time since I went through the comments there to excise spam and ads, so would suggest skipping the comments entirely at the moment. Last, have neglected updating the code for compatibility with some newer versions of browsers, so the display of some elements on the blog may or may not be a bit off kilter.)

As for Ezra Klein, I simply (but deeply) disagree that his objective is to ascend to the throne of Broder to rule the Village. Nor do I understand the animus towards Klein that is so prevalent on this blog. That said, I too am disappointed/perplexed by his recent inconsolable lamentations over the ACA website roll-out. In reading him regularly over the past several years, however, I have found too much incisive reporting and astute analysis to reject or impugn him utterly for this regrettable lapse in judgment.
With that, I’m afraid I’m to bed. I trust we’ll have other opportunities to debate the merits of Mr. Klein. And I’ll check back here some hours after the sun has risen later this morning.
