Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Bark louder, little dog.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

In after Baud. Damn.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

@lamh36: And THIS is why pushing back against Cohen and his fellow travelers is so important. Because anyone who can look at an interracial relationship (and biracial children) and regard a “gag reflex” as “conventional” sees one half of said relationship as “less than.” And when you see certain classes of people as “less than” based on such characteristics, then you get (in addition to the thousand and one daily microaggressions and tiny cuts) Renisha McBride and Trayvon Martin.

I’m sick of this bullshit trope that says pushing back on this is something that “doesn’t matter.” Come and live in our skins for a week – hell, even a day – and then tell us again how much it “doesn’t matter.”

So he has two excuses for shooting an unarmed woman on the other side of a locked door. That’s called having a belt and suspenders.

@Francis: The funny thing is how names morph regarding gender. Tells you something about the non-equality of the sexes. Example: “Shirley”, in the 1850s, was a boys name only. Until Charlotte Bronte decided to name her eponymous female heroine. Giving a girl a boy’s name is “edgy”. But if it becomes popular, then it’s an “unmanly” name.

Paul McGann deserved more love to play the Doctor on TV than that sad movie pilot Fox commissioned in 1996 (*another* reason to hate Fox: they not only screwed renewing the series, they screwed the show’s continuity!). Every fan I’ve met loved McGann’s performance, just not that script.
