The hapless Tampa Bay Bucs just took a three point lead over the abysmal Atlanta Falcons! I was kinda hoping the Bucs would throw the rest of their games and position themselves to acquire Jadeveon Clowney, the ‘Cocks’ monster defensive end, in the draft. It could still happen.

    Go Saints!

    So, ok, when looking for a used car. Besides pricing male and model, what else would/do you look for? My main question: how many miles max would you look for? My current car has 95000 miles on it after almost 8 years. I’d prefer less than 30k, but at least 1/2 of my current miles…so like 45k

  12. 12.

    @lamh36: Spend the money to get the Carfax on it. That’s the main thing, especially if buying from any kind of a dealer. They lie–happened to a friend of mine. If you are in any area near a recent flood, make sure you get the car checked out for flood damage. A lot of cars that go through floods are re-sold as not going through a flood and it’s a lie.

    Besides pricing male and model,

    Sure it’s a car you are looking for? Heh.

    @Betty Cracker: My brother has a 1997 Volvo with over 250K miles on it. That thing still runs like a champ, although he rents cars for longer trips now. I think the only major issue it had was a transmission glitch that got fixed & has never popped back up. Volvos before Ford are workhorses.

    @lamh36: Definitely get the Carfax and also spring for an independent mechanic inspection if you don’t have a car savvy family member. It’s about $100 but it could save you thousands down the road.

    Also: look at retired rental vehicles. They usually have really good mileages, aren’t that expensive, and the rental companies maintain the bejeezus out of them. My car started life that way and other than routine stuff I haven’t had problem one.

    If you’re planning to finance any of it, see if you can get pre-approved for a loan from your bank or credit union before you shop. And, yes, it’s generally minorities who are being victimized, so you need to be extra careful. ?

    OK, for all the tech savvy types on this blog. Why in the fucking fuck is my NAS constantly changing IP? It’s only consistent when I’m hard connected. Worked fine all this while and with the new dual band, the NAS and the wireless printer are freaking out and costing me a lot of valuable time trying to fix things. I’m running windows 7, both have the correct ssid, the router says the IP is one thing, but the drive’s networking software gives me a different ip and can’t connect without ethernet. Then it’ll correct, stay connected for a bit, then disappear again. I was hoping to get some work done, instead I’m considering shooting the drive. and the printer. some sort of techno mass murder spree with an electron gun.

    @James E. Powell:

    My brother was a student at Ohio State that year. 14th and High area.

    Fellow Buckeye here. Lived mostly east of campus.

    Do you recall that if you had an Ohio High School diploma they had to admit you in those years?

    And tuition was less than $300 per quarter and a 19 inch color television was $400.

    Oh, and the needle to play records was $100.

    The announcers sure seem to want the Saints to win.

    @kindness: What else is new? Once upon a time, the Superdome was the scene of an American tragedy, so we are supposed to forget that Sean Payton is an oxycontin snorting asshole control freak who levels bounties on opposing players.

    To Betty and any Falcon fans.

    Bob-by Rain-ey! Bob-by Rain-ey.
    At least that was the chant when he would be fed the ball the run out the clock in the fourth quarter of his college games at WKU.

    If the Bucs didn’t want to win games, they shouldn’t have picked him up. Ravens and Browns loss is Tampa Bay’s gain.

    @YellowJournalism:

    The most clever thing we had was “FUW.”

    That’s actually better than “Duck Fuke,” but not as good as the “Spay the Terriers” gear that Boston College folks break out for their games against Boston University.

    Went down to a friend’s housewarming/football watching party in Tacoma. The drive there and back went through spots of torrential rain. This is Seattle; it’s supposed to rain in the winter (… and spring, and summer, and autumn); but the last 7 years the winter rains have been more like monsoons.

    The ‘Hawks won just the way I like: took a big lead early, and kept adding to it. None of this come-from-behind-in-the-4th-quarter stuff. Getting some of the first string offensive line players back from IR helped.

    The Seahawks won; SF lost. Good wknd. I hate the ‘Hawks going into bye week at this stage. Next team NO, then SF in SF. Too much time off when team is just getting 100% = poor timing.

    Enjoying the Denver/KC game – torn equally between who I want to win.

    Steelers uniforms ugliest in football history. They won because they creeped out the Lions in those break-out-of jail unis.

    As a fellow Bucs fan, I’m not sure what we need to draft in the first round in 2014, what I do know is that Schiano is not a very good coach and ought to be fired #FireSchiano at season’s end. Because of this two-game win streak against not-very-good teams, the buzz to fire the coach(es) (save the RB coach who seems to be the only one who knows what he’s doing) has died down a little bit, but upcoming games versus very good teams – Lions, 49ers, Panthers, Saints – ought to highlight the problems with Schiano – lack of on-field discipline, ultraconservative game schemes that lead to Second Half chokes – and end up with enough losses to demonstrate he’s not working out as HC.

We did it!

We raised the 25,000 for The Civics Center, and with the external matches, that gives them $60,000 for this Spring effort!

You guys rock!
