Wow, post a comment on a thread, and, POOF! Gone.
ETA It’s not like we haven’t ever had two open threads at the same time, amirite?
Omnes Omnibus
Not an attack – just a comment – that show is just too relentlessly negative for me. I watched a few episodes and, while I found it well written, well acted, and well produced, I just could not get into it.
ruemara
Person of Interest. I want to punch someone. HOLY SHIT WHY DID YOU KILL HER!
Plus a friend is going to travel through Amsterdam and Bonn. And another friend is posting many fine pics with their brand new pro level camera bought by their mom. I’m too jealous to enjoy their good fortune-at least for a bit. I’m a bad person.
Cacti
@Omnes Omnibus:
It’s a loose adaptation of Hamlet, so, the negativity makes sense.
Omnes Omnibus
@Cacti: I always preferred the Scottish Play to Hamlet.

@ruemara: Person of Interest. I want to punch someone. HOLY SHIT WHY DID YOU KILL HER!
They were clearly going to kill somebody (I mean before this) – the situation is a little unstable for someone not to die. And I’ll credit them with this, they laid out a series of big herrings and then pulled the trigger. Which they have to do – the premise of the show is such that there is no way for it to be a ‘How I Met Your Supercomputer Parental Unit’.
On the other hand, I liked Joss, and clearly Mr. Reese is trying to atone (and *should* atone, really), so killing him off kind of has to be done at some point (after all, they’ve killed everyone off as they’ve gone along). But that makes the whole more unpredictable than the usual network show (which, again, it needs to be), so I assume there was a reason (maybe a real-world reason) for going with Joss.
Still sucks.

Medium format?

[‘Expensive.’]
ruemara
@max: Not that expensive, but seriously good EOS with a 70-210 lens. I’m normally so supportive but *BURN*.
And I knew they were angling to kill her from the last episode. I was surprised everyone was in one (relative) piece, but there were too many minutes to kill for things to be all nicey-nicey. ARGH, ya had to go kill the black lady, right?
mclaren
@Omnes Omnibus:
Yeah, SONS OF ANARCHY is too negative for you — but GAME OF THRONES with all the torture and the flaying and the mass-wedding-murders, that’s just fine, right?
Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader
I’m only up to go to the bathroom and then to renegotiate a sleeping strategy with the cat that allows me to use some of the blankets.
Omnes Omnibus
@mclaren: Um, there is an idea of hope, of something decent that will come out of it in GoT. Also, as I noted, I only watched a few episodes and it did not catch my interest. If you like it, great. if you find meaning in it, fine. Tastes fucking vary.
YellowJournalism
@mclaren: Yeah, but in Omnes’ defense, his show has dragons.
Chris
@Omnes Omnibus:
By “the Scottish Play,” I assume that you mean Macbeth?
Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader
@YellowJournalism: Spoiler alert, asshole.
piratedan
@Chris: pretty sure it was a nod to the Celtic offside trap, that was used in the 2009 championship against Rangers… //////
Omnes Omnibus
@YellowJournalism: Also, all I said was that I found SoA to be too negative for my taste. And I said I only watched a few episodes. I also don’t like Modern Families, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Tom Green, and other embarrassment comedians/comedies. My taste is mine. It is not an indictment of the tastes of others.
@Chris: Yes. I won’t tempt the evil forces.
MattR
@ruemara: I heard some rumors that Taraji Henson wanted off the show.
I thought they did a good job with the misdirection although I would have preferred it to come out of the blue, instead of being bombarded with a week of promos warning me that someone was likely going to die. Now that we’ve let our guard down, maybe they will surprise us with a second death next week. I don’t think they have the balls to kill either of the male leads, but Fusco could definitely go now that we think he is safe. They may want to wipe the police slate clean and reset the show back to when they were “hunted by the authorities”
mclaren
@Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader:
Oh, come on, we knew the black lady wasn’t young enough and good-looking enough and white enough and RICH enough to attract that treasured white male young demographic, so she had to go.
And will she be replaced by a white and really young and really gorgeous woman detective…?
Oooohhh…three guesses.
Omnes Omnibus
@piratedan: I am a rugby guy. Jeebus.
rikyrah
Person of Interest……
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!
I can’t believe they killed her.
I am still in shock.
I’m done with this show
mclaren
@MattR:
They could kill the rich guy. Then the machine could send Reese and Shaw around to collect lots of RAM for it and stock up on porn.
Okay, maybe not.
YellowJournalism
@Omnes Omnibus: I love many of the people involved in SoA, but I never got into it, either. Although, for me it wasn’t the negativity. The show just wasn’t my thing. I’ve only seen a few Thrones episodes, too, but resist getting into that against my geeky nature because I watch too much TV as it is.
ruemara
@MattR: A black woman. In WhollyWhite. Lead on a successful show. All you need is your 100 eps for syndication and then you can trust in the magic of residuals. And she wanted off? *sigh* It may be so, but you know, this was a great, non-stereotypical character for her. They need to bring her back.
Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader
@mclaren: I have no idea what that means. I’m going to back out of here slowly, no sudden moves, everyone stay calm. There, there.
Omnes Omnibus
@Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader: You should probably hold you hands up, palms out, to show you mean no harm.
MattR
@mclaren: He’s the last person I expect to be killed. IMO, the entire show revolves around the moral dilemmas he faced after 9/11 and how they have changed him, both physically and psychologically. Kind of like what would happen if Bruce Wayne was an unathletic dweeb.
@ruemara: I definitely get your frustration and it wouldn’t shock me if those issues were part of the reason she wanted off (ie. she felt like was never going to be treated as an equal to the two male leads). Or maybe the writers made the the decision. Who knows. I did see someone mention their hope that she wasn’t actually dead, but that it was being faked to keep her safe (perhaps with the help of Elias). Doesn’t seem too likely to me, but I guess that door is always open.
@Just Some Fuckhead, Thought Leader: She replied to your coment about GoT thinking it was about Person of Interest.
Omnes Omnibus
@MattR: mclaren attacks viciously and in an over the top manner anytime she wants. If she makes a mistake and she gets criticized, too bad.
jl
Whatever it takes for Cole to get his mind off those Steeler uniforms, I guess.
MattR
@Omnes Omnibus: Definitely not defending mclaren. Just trying to translate for Fuckhead.
Omnes Omnibus
@MattR: That is a weird place.
MattR
@Omnes Omnibus: Probably a sign that it is time for bed.
Omnes Omnibus
@MattR: Probably for both of us. Separately. Of course.
IM
@Omnes Omnibus:
Yes, Macbeth is so sunny.
Omnes Omnibus
@IM: Decency wins the day, doesn’t it? Also, MacB simply had the balls to own up to what he did and face the consequences.
IM
Game of Thrones on the other hand has some quite positive characters.
IM
@Omnes Omnibus:
Actually that is my favorite Shakespeare play too.
I always admire him at that moment:
Omnes Omnibus
@IM: My Eng Lit course on it was taught by someone who thought MacB was weak and that Lady MacB, was strong.. Me, I think she couldn’t handle what they did. Mac B, once he made his move, did what he needed to do. And this redeems much:
ETA: He knows that he has lost, but he won’t submit. He made his play; it failed. He can handle it.
Anne Laurie
@Omnes Omnibus: Don’t think you’re a Pratchett reader, but someday you might want to try Wyrd Sisters. It includes, among other things, a most loving parody of the Style Shakespearan, and the ideal Player. Who is gifted by those witches (not entirely on purpose) with three talents: He makes friends easily, he always remember the words, and whatever the circumstances he belngs exactly where he is situated!
Omnes Omnibus
@Anne Laurie: Pratchett never caught me. I get the concept, the universe never engaged me.

On a completely different topic, do what you can to help derail the Trans-Pacific Partnership:

This is one time where the Obama administration is definitely not on the side of the angels.

@Geoduck: Give me a link that does not require me to sign something before I read the article….
ETA: Hello?

@Anne Laurie:
Isn’t the ideal player a lost prince too? Pratchett loves this trope.

OK, I posted a reply that had too many links and got dumped into moderation. Here’s one to the Guardian from the bottom of the first page I linked to

@Geoduck: Ultimately Assange doesn’t believe in copyright, does he? We may not have the balance right, but copyright has a purpose. I don’t see much in that article that should worry me. I don’t believe that all info should be free. There are aspects about my life, and yours, about which no one has any interest in knowing..

Last night, my local CBS affiliate did nice little hit-piece about welfare fraud in California. I left a comment about the reporter’s nice little bit of right-wing journalism, asking if he got Lara Logan to help.
Read it here: Millions In LA County Welfare Money Traced To Casinos, Bars, Vacation Spots
CBS: It’s the new Fox.

@Geoduck:
EPP’s primary concerns seem to be that the TPP will extend current U.S. laws internationally. A legitimate concern, but not the end of the Internet.
I’m not enthused about the increase in the copyright periods, however.

For all that the Irish are supposed to be so much further up the food chain than SAMCRO, they haven’t done so well whenever the two have gone head-to-head.
fidelio
@ruemara: Let’s hope it was because she’d landed a better gig.
WaterGIrl
Hey guys, how about a SPOILER alert? I haven’t watched this week’s person of interest yet, but now it’s pretty obvious what happens. Bummer all around.
AdamK
Tara makes it clear that Shakespeare was right to kill off Ophelia early on.
I like SoA, and I speak as someone who has a new bottle of Bulleit Rye. And Katey Sagal is monumental.
MomSense
The show is called Sons of Anarchy. Just sayin’
Robert Sneddon
@Omnes Omnibus: GRRM is on record saying that in the last book everybody dies. The book will mostly consist of a loving description of the eternal snow covering the frozen corpses of the entire cast including people he hasn’t invented yet.
Oops was that a spoiler?
ruemara
@WaterGIrl: sorry. But you haven’t been given a real spoiler. This is a must watch ep.
MattR
@ruemara: Apparently I was wrong about Henson wanting out, but she does seem pleased (or at least not bitter) with the whole experience. Reading that interview and this one with producers, it sounds like they have the rest of the show pretty well mapped out already. And sounds like the 4th season could be the last as they wrap up all the storylines.
I thought it was interesting that they talk about how the first season was all about Reese, the second about Finch and the third has been focused on Carter so far. Also sounds like the second half of the season is focused on Root and the Vigilance group that was introcued a bit earlier.
Bruce Webb
@IM: Some of whom haven’t even been killed! (Yet)

@IM:
totally. i’m really hoping the theme park manages to stay afloat.

@Omnes Omnibus:
Hamlet, much better in the original Klingon.
Mnemosyne
@MattR:
It could well be that Henson was hired on the understanding that they only needed her for two seasons (or whatever) and then her character would be killed off. Actors don’t seem to mind that when they know ahead of time what the ultimate plan is.
Heck, in the infamous “Buffy” case, Tara was supposed to have been killed off the previous season, but they ended up liking Amber Benson and her character, so they kept her an extra season.
