Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Fani Willis claps back at Trump chihuahua, Jim Jordan.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

The choice is between normal and crazy.

…and a burning sense of injustice to juice the soul.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

If West Virginia and San Francisco had a love child.

American History and Black History can not be separated.

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

Israel is using food as a weapon of war. Unforgivable.

President Biden is doing good where he can, and getting it done.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

The arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend itself. it’s up to us.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

I do my best to be tolerant of other peoples’ hobbies, but I never could grok the Star Warts. Just a failure of the imagination, I’m afraid.

It’s amusing, let’s give it that.

This should be worth looking at: apparently Nelson Mandela, whose passing is being mourned all over.the world, is an object of hatred for Americans of a certain political persuasion.

Never quite grokked why the videos on your posts so often show up completely differently on the front page than on the comments page.

Front page on this one, for example, is this, which made this old geezer scratch the head as to what the frack it had to do with Star Wars.

Mama, Han just killed a man,
Aimed a gun at his green head,
pulled the trigger, now he’s dead
Mama, the Force has just begun,
    And now I’m gone, I’ve hyperspaced away…

72 years since attack on Pearl Harbor today.

Just felt it should be noted.

And that’s a thing no parody should ever touch. Today I remember Donald K. Ross, the first Medal of Honor winner in WW II for his service in keeping the USS Nevada with power during the attack. He passed away on May 27, 1992, at age 81 in my hometown.

@NotMax: My dad was in front of the YMCA in San Diego when word came to get back to his ship. He said there were guys that had been in the Navy one day. They boarded and headed to the Pacific and he was there until the end of the war.

I just sent a note to my co-worker whose father is a Pearl Survivor and still with us.

I honor the living from Pearl Harbor and pray for the dead on this day.

Over on dailypuppy.com, today’s pup is half beagle and half St. Bernard. The owner doesn’t say but I’m guessing the beagle is the father, seeing as how it’s difficult to park a Cadillac in a closet. Anyway, the offspring is the only puppy I’ve ever seen who wasn’t cute. I didn’t think it was possible for a puppy not to be cute.

She sounds like a wonderful dog–but she ain’t cute.

Two of my uncles (on my mother’s side) were in the Navy and at Pearl that day. (The armed services have been a jobs program for a long time…) One uncle saved some big-wig officer and his name is on some plaque.

AL: I don’t get the singing of the Star Wars story to Bohemian Rapsody. The sets, costumes and stuff is all good. But what is the special reason to do this apart from doing it that way.

What a pussy. Didn’t kill a single enemy soldier.

OK, just couldn’t resist. Quite a dude, that one. Half blind and refused med treatment.

    Sigh…

Meanwhile, we had a couple of eventful weather days. The Guardian even commented:

Missouri: from hot to cold in a day

Most of southern Missouri was under winter weather warnings, with up to eight inches of snow possible by Friday evening.
“Certainly power outages are going to be a real threat,” said Scott Truett, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in St Louis. As for driving, snow on top of ice “is a very bad combination,” Truett said.

Adding to Missouri’s woes was the frigid cold. Highs were mostly expected to reach only into the 20s or low 30s ( just below 0C), a sharp decline from highs in the 60s (just below 20C) in many places just 24 hours earlier. St Louis reached 69 degrees (21C) on Wednesday; afternoon temperatures on Thursday were 40 degrees colder.

Got about an inch of sleet with 3-4 inches of snow on top of that. Presently my thermometer reads minus 4 F. Predicted high of 18. Gonna get my granddaughter today (#1 son is still MIA) Probably spend it inside baking cookies (Thank you TaMara, a couple new ones to try) with maybe a foray into the snow with a sled. Gotta remember to get lots of hot chocolate and some coconut and chocolate chips.

I thought the most horrifying part was the sexy Mandalorian… until I saw the sexy Vader. That’s just all kinds of wrong, fellow nerds.

I’d watch a whole trilogy based on the sexy Vader – and probably enjoy it 1000x more than I did watching the last three!!

@Pogonip: Nonsense. All puppies are cute by definition. This one… just look at the eyes! And the ears! (Agree that the Dad had to be the beagle. In which case, either they used a position out of a Canine Kama Sutra, or he bought a stepladder.)

I liked the SW/BH parody, though the POV kept changing. It must be a reflection of how much I love the Bohemian Rhapsody, and how much affection I still have for Star Wars, despite everything Lucas has done to shit on his own legacy.
