@Corner Stone: I once went to Quebec City in December and believe me it was much colder than Maine. I was cold in the gear that kept me toasty in Maine.

The Quiet Death Of Long-Term Unemployment Insurance In 2013
It’s a HuffPo link, so be warned.
“Now, with Congress in recess, long-term unemployment insurance will come to an end for 1.3 million Americans, potentially costing 240,000 jobs, according to the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers. Was it inevitable? Or was it a case of political mismanagement? “

@Corner Stone: isn’t the Fortress of Solitude somewhere up in Canada already? Maybe he has dual citizenship. Or triple if you count his cultural Kryptonianism.
What if he believed in a Free Quebec? Or after 9/11 what would happen if he crossed American airspace? Or after we invaded Iraq would he consider the US to be a rogue nation and rip the top off the WH and pull GWB out using the Mother of All Wedgies?
I turned it off just as he was being introduced. But generally speaking, based on his previous appearances, I agree with you. Did he say (or fail to say) something especially significant tonight?

@SiubhanDuinne: I blanked out some of it but he did suggest the Democrats should do whatever they can to force a vote on extending UI benefits. Make the R’s get on record for saying No to some of the most vulnerable Americans.
On that specific issue, I agree with him.
But his sheer hypocrisy in being a large and in charge presence in the whole Fix The Debt BS makes me want to throw something every time I hear his folksy, raspy, bought and paid for voice.

I’ve asked once or twice over this last year, but don’t recall receiving an answer. Does Freddie DeB. post here anymore? I don’t recall seeing his/her byline in many months, but perhaps I am somehow magically looking at all the wrong times.

Great article on the use of Scalia’s dissent in gay rights cases against his position.

Basic premise is that Scalia’s attempts to bait the liberals on the court make for great support for why gay marriage should be expanded.
