Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

Everybody saw this coming.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Battle won, war still ongoing.

The willow is too close to the house.

T R E 4 5 O N

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Apparently someone was filming me in my living room during the Chargers/Chiefs game on Sunday:

I may have gotten engaged in a little premature celebration.

Yeah, well, the NFL admitted that they blew making the call on San Diego which would have probably have gotten the Steelers in.

The disinterested dog walking through the video really cements the comparison to the Cole household. Is the dog more like Lily or Rosie?

Succup would have never bought another round in Western Pennsylvania ever again; now, well, his name is in a not very nice limerick.

What the HELL are you feeding Rosie? I barely recognized her walking through that shot.

I think the guy is wearing a Bubby Brister jersey under that coat, so really, he only has himself to blame.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and Chicago so I did the joy of victory / agony of defeat dance twice. Of course quickly got over it by justifying that they would go nowhere in the playoffs if they got in; all but guaranteeing San Diego and Green Bay go on a run.

A flubbed field goal and call, and three fourth down conversions on the final drive.

    Come-on man.

I have a feeling Cole was more outspoken, more demonstrative, and considerably more profane, after the missed FG than the fellow in the vid.

(I love that vintage helmet he’s wearing. Is that a regular bit of Steeler kitsch?)

Not a fan of pro sports for the most part, but I have to admit liking the fact that you never know quite how things will turn out until the last whistle blows. The Steelers had to have four different games turn out the right way for them to make the playoffs, and damned if they didn’t come close to getting there. Philadelphia and Green Bay both came within a single play of packing their bags too.

Yeah I’m most impressed with the leather helmet, that thing rocks. And I also thought that was a Bubby Brister jersey. Who would wear a Brister jersey 20 years after his mediocre run as their starter? Maybe Yutsie has an old Rick Mirer jersey or something to up the ante.

I was working at a resort in Jackson Hole in 1994 and this big group of Pennsylvanians was in town when the Chargers beat the Steelers in the playoffs that year. I had gotten off work and was watching in the bar next to a guy who was so sure the Steelers would win that he already had the catering for his Super Bowl party ordered. It was sweet when the Chargers pulled the upset.
