Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Never forget that he train is barreling down on Trump, even as he dances on the tracks.

The revolution will be supervised.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

In after Baud. Damn.

Republicans in disarray!

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

President Biden is doing good where he can, and getting it done.

The current Supreme Court is a rogue court. Very dangerous.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Morning, dears… I hear that dancing is a good way to keep out the cold.

What are you listening to to get you out of bed?

Sarah: it’s so lovely to see you back and posting more. Bringing us some snark from (way!) Southern climes.

I’ve not yet read your opus on gay marriage, but bookmarked it and will.

Just getting into Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

Heard they’re wonderful (they are); think they’re touring again now that Miss Jones has recovered her health. They sell out the 930 Club here in DC area, which is a great place for shows.

@RSR: Emails Link Top Christie Aide to Bridge Lane Closures:

But the emails show that Bridget Anne Kelly, a deputy chief of staff to Mr. Christie, gave a signal to the Port Authority to close the lanes about two weeks before they occurred.

“Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” she emailed David Wildstein, Mr. Christie’s close friend and appointee at the Port Authority.

This scandal is proceeding right on schedule.

@RSR: Jesus Christ, are these people human?

In one exchange of text messages on the second day of the lane closures, Wildstein alludes to messages the Fort Lee mayor had left complaining that school buses were having trouble getting through the traffic.

“Is it wrong that I’m smiling,” the recipient of the text message responded to Wildstein. The person’s identity is not clear because the documents are partially redacted for unknown reasons.

    “No,” Wildstein wrote in response.

“I feel badly about the kids,” the person replied to Wildstein. “I guess.”

“They are the children of Buono voters,” Wildstein wrote, making a reference to Barbara Buono, the Democratic candidate for governor, who lost to Christie in a landslide in November.

Also, too, if these are the sorts of people that Christie appoints to government posts, that by itself should be a disqualifying factor for him holding any sort of elected position.

    @dmsilev:
“Hoodlum” doesn’t seem too strong a word, either for Christie or for his people and their actions as described in the story. This bit of business looks like malicious abuse of authority to me, but am I correct in guessing that it doesn’t rise to the level of criminal conduct?

I just got to hear “I Will Always Love You” because the vet’s office has the “lite rock” station on. Charlotte did just fine with her dental exam — now we’re waiting for the vet portion of the appointment. Annual exam FTW.

Dancing is also a good way to injure yourself, which I did Saturday night during Scottish country dance. Twisted my knee and spent the rest of the evening listening to the band. My dance class was hosting, so I felt obligated to stay and help with the potluck after.
Just strained a muscle, says the doc, so I should be ok in a couple of weeks. No dancing or running for a while though.

@catclub: One of the angles I am pushing because I think it will damage Christie with Republicans is that even if the traffic study was legitimate, it was stupid and irrepsonsible to limit access to the GWB on the anniversary of 9/11.

Currently it’s “Red Barchetta”, “One Little Victory”, “Marathon”, and “Prime Mover” all by Rush. I’m celebrating 5 years since I took delivery of an ’81 Chevy Citation X-11 that needed rescuing. Most of the work I’ve done is little stuff, but it’s pretty neat having taken the car from “um…can I fix this?” to having folks compliment me on it. Ten-year old boys are the best: “WOW!! Cool car!!”
