Sounds so sinister. Did he send his Muslim Socialist Army, or Seal Team 6?

The tradition of stomping on AL threads continues unabated I see.

@Yatsuno:
Yeah, has been quite the embarrassment of riches lately.
How you be? How goes rehab?

@pacem appellant: Nevermind, Soonerdad answered in prior thread. Poor dear.

@pacem appellant:
It might be that she was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease a few months back. That’s what I remember, but I could be wrong … Sooner’s had the trials of Job this year.

So, does anyone have any first-hand experience they’d like to share with Colorado’s enlightened new laws? Sadly, because of my job, I won’t be able to partake until federal law is changed. But I’d appreciate a chance to enjoy your fun vicariously…..
raven
@Elizabelle: Good thing he’s STRAC
raven
@EconWatcher: I dazzled some youngin’s with my rolling skills new years. Don’t partake but it’s like riding a bike! Course it wasn’t in Colorado.

@Elizabelle: Confirmed. Crohn’s syndrome. Let’s hope it’s in remission.

Worse. Brace yourself here. He …nominated judges to fill existing vacancies on the bench. That bastard!

OK. What B STRAC?

I had heard parkour was extremely popular in Gaza City, but those were some great shots of some fun stunts. pretty hardcore.

Two weeks into the Obamacare rollout and I still can’t find any information on how to sign up for the death panels. I was so looking forward to them….
EconWatcher
@raven:
I respect your mad skillz, because even back in the day, I never could roll worth a darn. Never had to learn, because my college roommate had a very large, waterbearing receptacle named Bertha. Bertha was legendary and very, very popular.

Just flipped on theliberalMSNBC in time to see Condi Rice’s former speechwriter defend Iraq by saying, rather petulantly, that she was “Sorry 9/11 happened”. Ari Melber thanked her for her strong opinions.

@danimal: I have the link, although your ability to sign up for them varies by plan. Those of us lucky few with Plutonium level plans get to sign up other people.

Got it. Only Armyspeak I know is SNAFU. Oh, and I guess “Yes, SIR!”
Was thinking it could be FISHspeak. Starting To Reel in A Catch. Starting to Roll a Clyde … possibilities are endless.

CNN is showing video of Christie in Fort Lee. Apparently there’s so much press it caused a huge traffic jam. Anyone know who he visited or what he did while there?

@some guy: This is how my 3 year old son views playgrounds. I dare not show him these videos.
jl
Thanks to AL for video. I was wondering what parkour looked like. Now that getting health insurance is no problem, I guess after a few more months in the gym, I’ll give it a try. Wish me luck, I’ll need, but warning in advance it will almost surely do no good.

@Violet:
I think the governor’s motorcade needs to be involved in a (noninjurious) collision to make this day even spiffier. And it’s rush hour, is it not?
Actually, just about cocktail hour.

@negative 1:
A Palestinian friend explained that there are so many playgrounds in Gaza because Playgrounds for Palestine is one of the few ways you can legally contribute to the Palestinian cause in the US and Canada. the Apartheid regime has made sure that there will be no outside assistance to mitigate their emisseration policy in Gaza.

It feels so good the weather has warmed to 17 above zero today. It was a long week of temps ranging from lows of -34 to highs of below zero. I have gotten very fond of thermals and layering.
We saw a Minnesota moron a few days ago in Duluth MN when it was at least minus 12 coming out of a B&N dressed only in jeans and t-shirt. Insanity.

For those who didn’t get the web ads for Covered California (our exchanges), they’ve been using mountain bikers for months as their pitch to younger folks. It always seemed smart to me — even the most Randian young dudebro has to admit that he could get into an accident the next time he tells his buddies, Hold my beer and watch this!

Isn’t there an old Hollywood line about the people you step on when you’re on your way up are the ones who will kick you on your way down? Sam Goldwyn or Harry Cohn or Ida Lupino or whoever it was said it more cleverly, but Christie’s long term strategy of triangulating against his own party might just backfire on him
Omnes Omnibus
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: You knew there had to be people on the right just waiting for the chance to put the knife into Christie.
ranchandsyrup
Should the Kenyusurper come out and publicly support Christie? Would be interesting.

Bernie Marcus says ObamaCare will harm the middle class:
Suffern ACE
@ranchandsyrup: “We all have bad days. Look, there was that time when I realized that my attorney general’s plan to ship guns to mexico to be used in massacres to discredit gun owners in this country so I could take their guns had gone horribly wrong. I wish he would have told me about those plans in advance.”

“Governor Christie and I worked hand and hand during Hurricane Sandy, and I appreciate his dedication to serve the people of NJ. He’s a true champion of the people in his state, and I have every confidence he had no knowledge of this action.”

And now Debbie WS just said, “anytime I have seen someone invoke the 5th amendment it’s because they are guilty and have something to hide. Where there’s smoke…”
Fuck that stupid BS.
danimal
@AlladinsLamp: Bernie Marcus, respectfully, “Where the fcuk have you been for the past decade?”
Health care premiums have been crippling the middle class for years, and suddenly you’re going to blame Obamacare for insurance increases. Especially when the rate of increase is FINALLY going down and the total expenditures on health care are decreasing relative to the size of the economy?
When, oh when are we going to get an honest debate about health care from the conservative business people?
Omnes Omnibus
@danimal:
Rhetorical question, right?
Elizabelle
@AlladinsLamp:
Because if you’re making 70-80,000 and struggling on that, no way could you ever get cancer or hit by a car or injured through no fault of your own, but big, big bills. And you would never have a kid or family member with a pre-existing condition. Heart murmurs and aneurysms only happen to the wealthy and those grifting off Medicaid. Never the productive, struggling workers.
Never, never, never.
Mr. Marcus. He knows the middle class.
bemused
@AlladinsLamp:
Ha, ha. He’s delusional if he thinks most middle class people, even those who make as much as $80,000, will believe he is so concerned about them.
danimal
@Omnes Omnibus: not holding my breath…
lamh36
@Violet: Apparently the Mayor of Fort Lee asked Christie to not come because the investigation is ongoing ant Christie said he doesn’t care if the Mayor doesn’t want to meet him his coming anyway to “apologize to the people of Fort Lee”.
Doesn’t that just affirm his bullying behaviour?

Further memo to Mr. Marcus:
People buy more home improvement products at Home Depot when they have a home to improve.
One they have not lost to foreclosure or bankruptcy. And what’s a leading cause of those situations? Might it be catastrophic medical bills?
We have a winner. Clean up on aisle 7. Small utility bulbs.

@Elizabelle: and the last thing you wanna do, if you’re in your late thirties, early forties, have a spouse and a couple of school age kids, is get a physical– I guess we say “wellness check” now?
@lamh36: and he didn’t apologize publicly, did he? Not that I would have given a crap were I a Fort Leean, but what was the point of a closed door meeting with the mayor?

Even in a story about Republican corruption, you find a way to bash Dems.
Violet
@lamh36: Yeah, I know that’s what was being said during the press conference. And then he ended up meeting with the Mayor. Wondering how it all went down. I think Mayork Sokolich is going to be on CNN later.

Define “affordable”.
(Yeah, and before anyone says anything, the ACA is a step in the right direction and I’m glad it’s around, but we can’t pretend that everything everyone says about it is accurate.)

Well, to be fair there’s so many of them they’re hard to avoid having underfoot.
Suffern ACE
@Elizabelle: It’s just odd. The “Higher Food Prices. Higher Gas Prices.” Is what you use to scare the old people on fixed income. But gas prices and food prices aren’t actually higher. My medical premium deduction actually went up every year in the past decade. It basically ate up a big part of my raise each year.
But its odd to scare working people the same way you scare the old folks.

@AlladinsLamp: Of course there hasn’t really beenthe kind of inflation he’s talking about. Its that people’s wages are being cut and their pay has stagnated. And why would Obamacare affect, for example, Home Depot workers–aren’t they covered under employer based healthcare? That hasn’t been affected at all except to improve patient protections. What a liar. What a shameless liar. Either they aren’t covering their workers or they are.
ruemara
@AlladinsLamp: fuck that sonofabitch. 70-80k and motherfuckers have it “hard”? Man, he needs to go choke on his cash.

@ruemara: still doesn’t beat Charlie Whatsits from ABC “A middle class couple, earning say $250,000 a year….”
Citizen Alan
I actually found the parkour video rather dull. The purpose of parkour according to its creator was to be the martial arts answer to “running away from your enemies.” That is, a more efficient system for evading attackers as opposed to a martial arts still designed to let you more efficiently combat them. I am impressed by parkour enthusiasts who race one another, improvisationally using the environment to cover ground more quickly. That video wasn’t parkour — it was gymnastics with bad form. YMMV.

Speaking for myself, yes. Yes it would be.
different-church-lady
@ruemara: Hey, take it easy. As recently as a few years ago you needed to bring in six figures before you could have it really hard.
Violet
@lamh36: Thanks for the link! Does “I take him at his word” really mean “I believe him”?
sparrow
@WereBear: Seriously. I “only” make $50k, and even with $900 of student loan payments every month, I consider myself pretty well-off. I mean, I have a nice, practical car, buy groceries at whole foods, and have a cute apartment in a nice part of town. I also had a tooth replaced last year and am having a mole removed thanks to health insurance. I’m really not sorry that I (and my employer) pay for that. Idiots.

I’m in Colorado. Haven’t been out to the shops yet. Haven’t needed to because I started growing my own as soon as Amendment 64 passed. It’s quite wonderful.
More important is that the police immediately stopped arresting people for possession last year. That’s the really big deal.
But having pot available freely (though not cheap yet) is great. Not having to worry about the law is great.

@sparrow: Yeah, but do you renovate your kitchen and bathroom every five years? Those kinds of people are the real hard done bys in this society.

So is this Trans-Pacific Partnership thing the most evil thing and greatest threat to freedom ever? Because a lot of people are warning me about the secret menace of it right now.
