Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The gop couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

The new republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

A consequence of cucumbers

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Trump’s legal defense is going to be a dumpster fire inside a clown car on a derailing train.

In after Baud. Damn.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

It’s here with a white furry vengeance (with maybe some pink paws and a pink nose and an aftermarket tail), and you know you want to get yours. So do it. And then buy one for your pet crazy friend. And then one for your pet friendly family. Because if there is one thing I have learned, pet lovers travel in packs, just like their brood.

*** Update ***

The old Tunch videos make me laugh every time I watch them:

The funniest thing is that compared to Steve, Tunch is just so teeny tiny looking. Steve is just so much bigger. Tunch had the big belly and all, but Steve has him by at least 6 inches in length, and the long hair just makes him look so much more massive. I guess I never realized how much of Tunch’s size was his straight up catitude.

And it’s ok to get a little moist in the eyes when you watch the Tunch videos. I did, but only in the most German way possible with a slight moistening in the corner of my eye before biting into apple cake.

The ranch is a freaking menagerie, but Mom has a tradition of horse calendars. Myself, I need to see that the pay situation is okay before I go out spending wildly. I should be in some kind of pay status, but not sure what.

like we’d forget Tunchie, sheesh…. all of my cats still reside in my heart (dogs too, ‘natch), I think the calendar is great and the fact that this is a labor of love for you and the blog just means it will endure.

now its bedtime and a follow up appointment with the doc… down 65 pounds so far, many more to go….

I want to say something snarky in response to the phrase “in the most German way possible,” but in the context of a recollection of Himself the Cat, it just wouldn’t be right.

    Is this thing on?

Just waiting for the impending snowpocalypse to hit the DC area (4″-6″). Fed and local govts, schools and colleges all closed already. Nothing has started falling yet except the temps.

This local weather clearly puts the lie to climate change, also too.

I love looking at still pictures of Tunch, but I can’t do the video yet. Too soon.

I also have audio recordings of my father that I have not yet been able to listen to — he died in 1984. I’m a little sensitive.

Just got up, fed the housecat and took a peek outside while she ran some sprints around the apartment. No snow so far here in Falls Church. I’m going to go to the grocery in a bit and get some victuals, then hunker down for the duration.

Just been reading about Hollande’s affair. I know I shouldn’t laugh, but this is one of the least deft political walkbacks I’ve ever seen:

Mr. Hollande never married Ms. Trierweiler, even though he described her in an interview with Gala magazine in October 2010 as “the woman of my life.” By the following February, he had curbed his enthusiasm. “The sentence was maladroit,” he said. “I should have said, ‘She is the woman of my life today.’ ”

Missouri is doing some first class “he needed killin ” killing:

Questions about Missouri’s executions go beyond the method. On Dec. 20, federal appeals judge Kermit E. Bye criticized the state for executing Nicklasson before his appeals could be heard by the full 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

“Missouri’s past history of scheduling executions before a death row inmate has exhausted his constitutional rights of review, using unwritten execution protocols, misrepresenting dosage levels for drugs used in lethal injections, and providing unfettered discretion to a dyslexic physician to mix the drugs and oversee its executions, has earned from this federal judge more than just a healthy judicial skepticism regarding Missouri’s implementation of the death penalty,” Bye wrote.

How bad is it? Republicans want to hold hearings.

Rep. Jay Barnes, R-Jefferson City, chairman of the House Committee on Government Oversight and Accountability, said last week that the charges were serious enough that “somebody ought to be asking questions in an official capacity at a public hearing.”

But don’t worry, I;m sure nothing will come of it:

In 2005, a federal judge temporarily halted the state’s death penalty after the surgeon in charge of a three-drug protocol testified that he was dyslexic, sometimes confused numbers and did not follow written procedures. A Post-Dispatch investigation revealed that he had also had faced disciplinary issues and multiple malpractice lawsuits, and made false statements in court. The Legislature responded by making it unlawful to reveal the identities of the execution team.

    Better watch out Texas.

I just heard Chuck Todd interviewing Hailey Barbour. Couldn’t stand more than 2 mins of listening to that disgusting POS. Summary- Mayor Zimmer is an unstable fan of Christie (she sent tweet after tweet praising Christie in 2013) and is a liar. I was reminded of the Glen Close character in Fatal attraction. Can they seriously be heading in this direction?
