Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

So many bastards, so little time.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

I’m hardly the target audience for this movie, but damned if this trailer doesn’t make it sound more logical than, say, anything by Michael Bay…

Ezra, Mellisa Bell, and Yglesias are starting a new gig at Vox.

Let’s see what they come up with.

Another story on the venture from the NYT.

Dylan Matthews is also going over. Bezos is losing a little chunk of talent there. Sounds like they’re aiming for more of a long-form policy news/archive approach where they keep building up content on a given subject.

@? Martin: Well at least they don’t have to worry about the money angle by joining an established network. Let’s see how they run with this.

@? Martin: It’s an interesting idea. I think they have a point about online media failing by needlessly transferring the constraints of the old technology onto digital platforms. But the elephant in the room is figuring out a monetization model that works.

@Betty Cracker: Yeah, but Vox has done pretty well by that. Their ads aren’t overwhelming. They’ll need to get the traffic going on this new site pretty quick though.

As A transformers fan and a cinephile (cult) I hate Michael Bay with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.

Insomnia bites. At least I don’t have to do anything tomorrow.

@Yatsuno: It sure does. I tried like hell to sleep but finally just gave up. And soon I have to drive 150 miles. In the rain. This will require a considerable amount of strong coffee.

@Yatsuno: @Betty Cracker: That sux. I’m up to get Mrs. P off to work, but at least I can take a nap after she’s gone – if I can fall back asleep. Our wunnerful new daily schedule, up at 4:30 to beat the some DC traffic.

Betty, good luck to you. Sorry to hear of the parents’ health issues.

And thanks for introducing me to Cheryl Strayed’s “Wild.” About halfway through the book, and savoring every chapter.

I’m not much of a movie fan in general, but I’m looking forward to taking Bottle Rocket to see the Lego Movie. And he’s counting the minutes until it comes out.

This seems no more absurd or laughable than anything else coming out of Hollywood. And its participants deserve credit for being able to laugh at themselves and the project.

My friend and I took her kids to a Legoland near Toronto (she was driving so I don’t even remember the name of the town.) There was a 3D movie during which they sprayed us with water, dropped “snow” on us, the wind blew, etc., and it was tons of fun! The movie was very clever and entertaining for adults as well as kids. I can see that a full length Lego movie might actually be totally enjoyable.

I’ve been playing the Lego Marvel’s Super Heroes game, and if the movie is anywhere as fun as that it’ll be worth watching. It’s a kids’ game, but there are TONS of adult jokes and references.
