And speaking of apnea, the discussion here that followed James Gandolfini’s untimely death finally got me to commit to what my dentist calls an “appliance” and what I call a “Winnebago”. But this ungodly and expensive plastic apparatus is definitely making a difference in the quality of my sleep. My dentist is still adjusting it by increments every month, and I won’t be going back for another sleep study for a while, but I can definitely tell the difference between sleeping with and without it. Thanks!

@Yatsuno: Most people don’t get dental coverage through OHIP. There is some support for people on social assistance. I just budget for regular cleanings and eat the cost of occasional fillings. My dentist offers some discounts for not having additional private insurance, plus it’s a tax write-off, so it’s not too bad, but yeah, I would support a tax hike to bundle dental into OHIP.

Yeah, that thing has been a godsend to me. I knew I wouldn’t tolerate a CPAP, and made an appointment to see a dentist on the day of my diagnosis.
No more palpitations. Yay!

@GHayduke (formerly lojasmo): Good to hear it works for you, too! I was not looking forward to a CPAP, either. Plus I have a clenching problem, so I need some sort of bite guard. This device handles both.
But my brother in law has bad apnea that requires CPAP, and his new device is actually pretty minimalist and nowhere near as expensive as I thought. If anyone out there is resisting the CPAP they need because they think it turns you into the elephant man, do some searching.
