Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Be a traveling stable for those who can’t find room at the inn.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

He imagines himself as The Big Bad, Who Is Universally Feared… instead of The Big Jagoff, Who Is Universally Mocked.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

It’s a doggy dog world.

T R E 4 5 O N

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

…. Or just show him this:

The team behind “Kill Your Darlings” is planning a reunion in another collegiate setting, as Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan are attached to star as Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, respectively, in John Krokidas’ sophomore feature “College Republicans,” multiple individuals familiar with the indie project have told TheWrap…

Based on true events from 1973, the story finds aspiring politician Karl Rove (DeHaan) running a dirty campaign for national College Republican Chairman under the guidance of campaign manager Lee Atwater (Radcliffe). The duo take a spirited road trip to drum up support for Rove’s candidacy…

I have to admit that even though I don’t watch shows like American Idol or The Voice with much regularity, I don’t think I missed an episode of The Voice the season that Shakira took Christine Agulera’s place. She is as smart as a whip, funny, charming and self-deprecating. However, I don’t think those are the qualities that T-Bogg so admires.

Scocca at Gawker hates David Brooks, too.

    http://gawker.com/why-wont-mean-poor-people-let-the-rich-come-down-and-j-1513478046

Brooks’s vision of neo-Whiggism involves creating “a group of Simpson-Bowles-type commissions” to come up with policy suggestions that transcend the current party divisions—suggestions that Brooks helpfully pre-supplies, starting with policies to “improve family patterns” before working around to more early-childhood education, wage subsidies, and job creation. Far better that the president should convene commissions to eventually tell him the country needs jobs than that he should create any jobs.

(Also Brooks believes the president ought to ditch his “political operatives” and staff up the White House with a rising generation of “social entrepreneurs” to serve as a new ruling technocracy. These people should come from places like “the Clinton Global Initiative,” where they are innocent of any connection to political operations.)

The alternative to this dynamic approach of setting up commissions would be to give in to the stagnating power of divisive populism. And the poor will never advance in America if they insist on talking about the fact that they have less money than the rich. Our classes will remain estranged, by meanness.

He has never done anything other than punditry, even in school. Buckley, of course, snapped him right up – that fascist douchebag always recognized a propagandist when he saw one. Wouldn’t let him run the joint, though – NR is Catholic in culture, and having a Jew run it was a nonstarter.

I’ll say this for David Brooks: he sounds reasonable on the radio. I was in the car for about 11 hours total over the last 2 days and listened to a lot of NPR. They did their weekly Brooks/Dionne thing. Brooks sounds rational, calm and intelligent until you turn the slightest attention to his actual words. Then the clown pops out of the box.

As long as they don’t panic and rush the line everything will be alright . . . for the first class, everyone else is going down with the ship. Thats why He speaks calmly and soothingly, its his job.

Ah, Shakira finally made it to the front page of Balloon Juice. Awesome. I just adore her. Anyone who has the guts to have a pro-peace Super Bowl ad during the run up to the Iraq War and featured an anti-Bush Iraq War video during 2003-2004 on her first American tour after her English crossover is impressive. She also stood up against the Arizona Immigration Law and let’s not forget her building school for poor kids in her native Colombia through Barefoot Foundation.

Add that to her great Spanish albums. I just adore her and hope this duet is a huge hit for her so we get to see do a tour and more promo in the U.S. Because with her hot Spanish Footballer, she’s been spending a lot less time on her career which is too bad.

    @SFAW:

But what’s this crap about the Championships being held in Balto? Do they play lacrosse down there? I would think Citi Field would be closer to the heart of American lacrosse.

    (Incoming!)

Since you’re expecting return fire, here it is: The heart of lacrosse is in Maryland. And in Maryland it’s Baltimore. And in Baltimore it’s Towson. And in Towson it’s Kelly Post.

    @Little Boots:
I think it’s safe to say that he does, actually. She has built a lot of schools in Colombia, where she’s from, and is very outspoken and smart.

@askew: Thanks for the details about her, which I was too lazy to Google.
