In the cold stage where you feel better all day, then feel like shit as the day goes on, nap too much, and then lie awake looking at the ceiling when all you want is some peace and for things to calm down and the clanging to stop.
I’ve been listening to a lot of these guys lately. Can’t figure out why, but they are in my sweet spot atm. I will just roll with it.

Playing the Titanfall BETA on PC. Good lord is this amazingly fun. Haven’t had this sort of hectic FPS play since the Quake 1/2/3, UT99, Tribal Wars/Tribes2 era. If you like sci-fi fast paced FPS shooters give it a shot. So good.

Listened to a lot of early Beatles in high school (and oddly, The Cure)
I went through a phase in college when I listened to a lot a psych Beatles – particularly Sgt Pepper’s and after. That coincided with dropping LSD as a common weekend event.
Followed by post-grad years when the Beatles were lame, and it was all about the Stones, esp early Stones. Then the Stones were lame, and it was all about the Kinks.
Then I came back around to mod-to-psych transition Beatles (Revolver, Rubber Soul) as bring acceptable. Finally then rediscovered their early stuff again.
Those guys really do withstand the test of time.

@Goblue72:
You must be an old. I’m 33 and they sound like old people crap, from an old people era, that old people place way to much cultural and personal value in.
Give me some thumping house music and some drum and base. Fuck that guitar shit. Hick brits are just as bad as flyover country American hicks. Guitars are for flyover, rednecks, and bible thumpers. Yuck, ugh, and why can’t we just call them “Jesus Land” and let the coasts be their own nation.
God, guns, guitars. Same horrible shit for the same horrible people.

My favorite part if they are charging him with terrorism. Any guess how this will end? (spoiler alert. accused is African American)

@Ian:
I’m guessing he won’t catch the max charge.
The legal system throws the book at anyone who can’t pay to get them to plead down to whatever they want. For people who can pay they lob it at you and then take their cut and you go home with nothing.
It’s about class, not race. Now white people generally being in that higher class certainly helps them… but rich black NFL players also get the same treatment… because they can pay for it.
The legal system is all about your wallet, savings account, and tax input. Fix income inequality you fix the legal system. But income inequality isn’t as much of an issue as one might think. The rich are all in blue cities. So if we can let them extract wealth from the rest of the nation, not pay federal taxes that could help flyover land, and then extract it to our major cities that power our party (NYC, DC, SanFran, Boston) that’s a win for us. We can starve our enemies financially, control the cash flow, and pay our own constituents.
We need to do this far more aggressively.
Ian
@mike with a mic:
Agree with your first part that class is the real big cause in that debate, though many would argue class/race get tied hand in hand.
As to your second point (which I believe was snark based), I just hope this don’t happen, since I don’t want the children of Republicans to be denied SNAP benefits any more than Dem ones.
Rereading my own comment, I come across as a bit of an arsehole. I was merely attempting to bring attention to a news story that was similar to the Dunn case, but with the race roles reversed.

The Beatles “HELP!” Best first 7 songs of any album. Ever.
1.”Help!”
2.”The Night Before”
3.”You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”
4.”I Need You”
5.”Another Girl”
6.”You’re Going to Lose That Girl”
7.”Ticket to Ride”
imho. Your mileage will no doubt vary…

It’s been a while since I went through a Beatles phase. For the past 8 weeks or so, I’ve been all about the Dead.
I’ve always liked the early Dead though ’72 and then the early Brent years. I saw a bunch of the Alpine Valley shows in the mid-80s.
Lately, I’ve been dipping into the’73 – ’78 years with Keith and Donna Godchaux. Some good stuff in those years.

Interesting synchronicity: I just went and found that specific song yesterday, because, well, it fits my life at the moment. Then I went and watched the rooftop concert footage, which I never had before. I was a mad Beatles fan when I was about age nine to twelve at least. It all started when I asked my mom in mid-December 1980 “what’s with this John Lennon guy they keep talking about on the news that got shot?” She went and dug out the White Album and Sgt Pepper’s, and that was it for me – at least until I latched onto post-punk. Never stopped liking the Beatles though, and still dig out the music every now and then. Quality stuff – snark about guitars notwithstanding.
As for me, it’s my birthday today, but it was really just another work day. We splurged and ordered some good pizza tonight, and I’m working on a G&T. I’m not really a big fan of this time of year. Some people get depressed around New Year’s, thinking about what they did or didn’t accomplish in the last year; for me, it’s my birthday. And let’s just say that I don’t feel like I’ve made many forward strides pretty much anywhere (except for my three-and-a-half year old son Edmund: he rocks, and makes me feel like I get something right occasionally).
I think I need some pick-me-up music. Off to youtube to browse…

You know you’re old when you know the name of the band Paul McCartney was in before Wings.

@Villago Delenda Est:
Hell, you’re old if you remember Wings.

@Steeplejack (tablet): I was going to make a “Are you people talking about that guy who did the song with Michael Jackson?” joke, but even those songs came out over 30 years ago.

Beatles fan from their first arrival in the U.S. fifty years ago when I was 11 and never stopped. Never really got into the Stones or the Dead to the point of buying all of their albums but liked to listen to them when someone else did. I really love the Beach Boys for their harmony and the carefree surfer attitude about sun and cars before worrying about skin cancer and carbon emissions, and dig how the Beatles tried to emulate them with their own harmonies. Their music lasts; I saw teenagers wearing Beatles and Stones shirts last weekend, and they knew who they were.

Bah. You’re not old unless you can remember when all the songs from “One Froggy Evening” were current hits.
There is something wrong with people who can’t praise someone without denigrating someone else. The Beatles being a good band doesn’t prove that the Rolling Stones suck and their fans are morons. And vice versa.

Cole, if you took 5000 IU’s of Vitamin D every day, after three or four month’s you’ most likely never get a cold; simple as that. As a former conservative, try learning from mistakes and listen to advice that is scientifically sound. Otherwise, will you stop posting about your cold’s being soooo baaaad – it is getting old.
I haven’t had a cold since I started taking extra Vit D seven years ago (nor my daughter – of course, getting the flu shot is a big part of that, too) after reading the scientific studies. Believe what you wish but try it for a year – the worse that can happen is you get healthier, have a reduced risk of many cancers and become less depressed (Vit D has been shown in studies to help reduce the effects of depression, too.)

My daughter is a Beatles fan. “Yellow Submarine” was the gateway drug. I think it often is.
She likes They Might Be Giants too. In a few years she’ll probably find something else and reject my stupid old-guy music. That’s OK.

John, find a way to get approx. 30 min of (lightly, at first) strenuous activity – either morning or mid to late afternoon. That will help with sleep, stress, and all the other usual suspects.
If it’s too yucky outside for a 30 min walk, go to a gym. Get a buddy system going with some of your frat guys – work out when they do. Make it a social event. Don’t fall into the middle-aged man trap of being too home (read that living room and kitchen) based during your off hours.

Deleted. How did that double?

@Ian: Nay. I’ve been in my third year with supplemental vitamin D, and it makes a difference I can feel.
Perhaps you were not aware that WebMD is sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies? The ones who handle side effects by giving you another pill?
For that reason alone, I don’t trust them.

Some vitamins are water soluable. They will be metabolized and ultimately leave your body via pee.
Vitamins A, D, E, and K, are all fat soluable. They do not get peed out.

I have a theory that when John recorded that song, he felt tired.
Also, possibly, when he wrote the song.
Assuming that was a different time from when he recorded it.

Thanks for that. My preference for the Beatles does not diminish my enjoyment of the Stones. I try to find hip hop that I like, but I admit it is not really my cup of tea. But, then, I am not a fan of (sung) opera either.

A recommendation for John. Get DVDs of the two Beatle’s movies, “A Hard Day’s Night”, and “Help!”.
Take two movies and call me in the morning.
You will feel better.
FWIW, I cannot find the movies streamed online at Netflix or Amazon Prime. I do see that “Hard Day’s Night” collectors edition I bought some time ago around year 2000 listed for over a $100, though. Apparently that was a good investment.

@mike with a mic: I got news for you. At age 33, you ain’t young. You’re middle-aged.

Since you are a guy, it’s probably a waste of time to ask if you’ve been to a Doctor, or clinic or nurse-practitioner or anyone. But here’s the thing if you’re not getting better: strep is possible and one of the markers for that is you feel better in the morning and then get worse as the day progresses…every day. You get well eventually anyway, people did survive pre-penicillin, but a spot of antibiotics hurries the process. So get a flashlight and look at your throat in a mirror, and if it’s red with swollen white spots, go get it cultured. Thank you.
John Cole
@kathleen: I had strep throat, on average, three times a year from age 8-16. Well versed in exudative pharyngitis, thank you :P
