Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let there be snark.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Second rate reporter says what?

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

“woke” is the new caravan.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

The lights are all blinking red.

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

There’s always a light at the end of the frog.

I was looking for something non-political, but then, the end of that clip seems vaguely CPAC-related…

Political or not, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

Also too, they’ve released a trailer for the new Annie remake with Jamie Foxx as “Daddy Warbucks”, Cameron Diaz as “Miss Hannigan” and Quevanzhe Wallis as “Annie”.

ANNIE – Official Trailer – In Theaters Christmas 2014!

I don’t know about youse guys, but my baby Maddie was watching it and she now wants to see Annie…right now. I had to tell her it doesn’t come out until Christmas and she was like…”that’s a long time”…LOL.

Non-political? How about some refreshing scientific candor?

“Our first suspicion was this has got to be a mistake. There must be something stupid we are doing,” said Professor Troy Shinbrot, of Rutgers University, New Jersey.

“We took a tupperware container filled with flour, tipped it back and forth until cracks appeared, and it produced 200 volts of charge.

“There isn’t a mechanism I know that can explain this. It seems to be new physics.”

Repeat experiments with other granular materials produced the same voltage phenomenon. Source

They should be using the litter box. If they aren’t, it may be too tall for them to get into — try something with low sides, like a cookie sheet, filled with litter.

Also, make sure you have more than one — some cats don’t like having to share, or having to wait, and there can be conflict over the box.

That the strip Little Orphan Annie was a pre-Ayn Rand proto-libertarian, avidly for unregulated markets, pro-vigilante justice vehicle, bashing unions and the New Deal and even having “Daddy” Warbucks die of heartache upon the election of FDR (to be resurrected only after FDR’s death) is forgotten.

At the risk of being condemned (again) for bringing up True Detective matters, here’s something I wonder about: At one point in either 3 or 4 or 5, Marty yells at the two interviewers something about you keep going until you get “ass cancer”. That was kind of random.

Then, in 7, he buys a ridiculous quantity of tampons, packaged in much larger packaging than I’ve ever seen tampons for sale. Does he have “ass cancer”? Is he using tampons to stanch the blood from it? Maybe he’s the one who has little to lose?

Harold Gray (the creator) inserted some pretty vile screeds into it, even unto advocating lynching.

Trivia: The name of the orphanage matron in the strip was Miss Asthma.

Mrs. Warbucks was Annie’s long-time nemesis, time after time scheming to pin blame on her, boot her back to the orphanage, make her life miserable, etc.

I now keep a little inexpensive digital voice recorder in the car for those moments. I always think I can remember a title or composer, or an especially winsome performance, until I get someplace where I can safely write it down, but it rarely happens. I’ve been using the recorder for about a month, and it is very freeing. Simple button operations and BIG buttons, so I don’t even need to take my eyes off the road for the few seconds it takes to identify the piece.
