Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

I conferred with the team and they all agree – still not tired of winning!

Let’s finish the job.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Don’t expect peaches from an apple tree.

Bogus polls are all they’ve got left. Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls a year from now.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Maybe you would prefer that we take Joelle’s side in ALL CAPS?

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

“Why isn’t this Snickers bar only a nickel?”

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

… after True Detective, of course. And I guess some of you are going to have to record it, since it’s past your bedtime.

Apart from such forward planning, what’s on the agenda this evening?

Co-manning the IGDA booth at SXSW. Figuring out train schedules, and plunging into the masses.
I’m too old for this shit, but I volunteered, so once more unto the breach.

A bunch of Fluffy Friends videos on YouTube with my six-year-old on my lap. Damn, he’s getting big — won’t be able to do this much longer.

Right now recovering from a 5 mile hike that we didn’t plan or prepare for. We were out driving and there was a state park. “Let’s go there!”

“Ooo! A trail! Where does that go?”

Turns out it goes all the way to the Chesapeake, but then we had to turn around and go back. But my wife is a fucking trooper, and she made it. Go her! (My wife is disabled and in constant pain, but we went slow and got it done. Yay! Ow!!)

Walked around town, getting shit and burning calories. Editing for the first time in CC Premiere. Not bad. Can I neck punch those who dismissed my job application because I did not have Creative Suite CC or 6 on it? Because, I’m a fucking genius with software, fuckers.

Today was the first day that felt as if spring might some day come. We enjoyed it, if only by driving to a mall to try to get our terrible Dyson vacuum cleaner (2 years old and broken already) fixed.

Tomorrow’s the Shirley Temple marathon on TCM, starting at 4:30. The best one is Stowaway at 6:15 PM Eastern. But you can see her with R. Reagan in That Hagen Girl if you stay up until 4 in the morning. I don’t advise it.

Monday at 10 p.m. Eastern brings some toothsome brawny adventure with Errol Flynn in “The Sea Hawk.”

Juxtaposition of movies on Tuesday (both, being extremely charitable about it, so-so) did get a chuckle.

Bengazi – and the next full-length movie following is – Jackass Mail.

Resting and starting to feel better; this antibiotic makes food taste weird though. Tomorrow I mostly have to sit on a plane, with the real work (packing up to move) starting on Monday. Here’s hoping that getting FIL and BIL moved closed to BIL’s job cuts down on the drama-rama that the last 9 months have been.

I have got to figure out how to see John Oliver’s new show without subscribing to HBO; anyone have any hints?

    So, in seven weeks, yeah.

@StringOnAStick: The CEO of HBO said a few weeks ago that they don’t mind if people who have HBO GO credentials (for mobile devices) share them with friends; they see it as “creating addicts” for their programming and having no impact on their business. So bookmark the URL and hit up your friends!

Drove across town to pick up my tax return and stopped at the record store on the way home. Bought Peter Buck’s latest (vinyl only, no CD or download), a used vinyl copy of Wild Flag, used Japanese CDs of Little Feats’ ‘Sailin’ Shoes’ and ‘Dixie Chicken’, and a used CD of Nick Drake’s ‘Time Of No Reply’. Wasn’t one of the cheaper record store trips I’ve made, but I really like what I found.

I’ll probably make a trip to Target this evening just to get out in our above-freezing temps. Spring may arrive before May.

    @Mike in NC:
If I recall correctly, the CPAC straw poll isn’t very good at predicting the Republican nominee for president, even in an election year. All it really does is raise false hopes about a particular candidate. Which makes me wonder, how did the Democratic party trick CPAC into doing it?

You guys ever wonder what happened to Mickey Kaus? Me, neither. But this is what happened to Mickey Kaus:

Yes, you read that right. Mickey Kaus — once one of those respected “even the liberal New Republic!”-type contrarian journalists, now reduced to blogging for one of America’s sleaziest right-wing websites — was a panelist at CPAC this weekend. To double the CPAC’ers pleasure, he appeared alongside the sweet-tempered and ever delightful Ann Coulter. Imagine the thrill!

the website referenced is that thing Tucker Carlson’s mommy set up for him last time he was fired from whichever cable network most recently fired him.

@schrodinger’s cat: video editing, titling, audio massaging, print layouts, photo editing & retouching, logo design and animation graphics creation in illustrator. I’ve been using jsbin & Twitter bootstrap for web. Touched Dreamweaver but I prefer working in the code with less stuff on screen. Can’t wait to muss with the other new features. I won’t be able to spring for CS6, but I should be able to juggle in the prior license holder rate for a year.

What is it about True Detective that every one likes? I have watched all seven episodes only to fall asleep after about 10 or 15 minutes. So, I watch it again with tons of caffeine to keep me from falling asleep again. A couple of episodes I had to watch a third time because the second viewing also put me to sleep despite all the caffeine. I love mysteries, police procedurals, private eyes, etc., but this is really and truly a snoozer.

    @mainmata:
Until the plane is found and some physical evidence recovered, no one has any basis for speculating about a cause. The men travelling on stolen passports could be terrorists or criminals or, as the FBI has pointed out, just travellers. (The FBI and NTSB are joining the investigation — it’s a US-built plane, and the FBI has serious investigative resources.)
